Actually, I KNOW I am, but it really annoys me that my mum pronounces the name Rachel, 'Racial'

Someone at our local leisure centre had written Samiches on the menu board!!!!

I had to tell reception... I was narked to death about it! (Mid you they have a sign up saying that if your child suffers from "epilepsey" you should accompany them into the pool even if they are over 8.. it's a PRINTED SIGN!!!! )

And then I came back and ranted on Mumsnet about it!!

BroccoliSpears · 25/09/2007 17:08

Argh!

My dad says 'melk' and 'Elfie' instead of milk and Alfie.

My mum says 'baybiz' instead of babies.

So annoying!

But my gran is the best. She likes a pompadom with her curry. She sometimes cooks with and ow-ber-gine. She once bought me a book by Mike Spilligan.

(Of course, I'm perfect myself.)

kittylouise · 25/09/2007 17:11

Chimley for chimney
Basgetti for spaghetti
Roley-voley for ravioli

No, not a four-year old, but my gran

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/09/2007 17:13

Oh yes, she says Or-ba-jean too....(Aubergine) and Cor-jet..i'm sure you can work that one out.

There's newsreader on Radio Oxford who says ambull-ance. I'm sure he's very nice but I screech at the radio every time. My dad who's from the North says vejetubbles, but I think it's sweet.

Vulgar · 25/09/2007 17:16

People who call pizza: pis-sa

My mum says " dyslec- tic" and anorex-tic" Grrrr!

Vulgar · 25/09/2007 17:18

pointydog · 25/09/2007 17:19

kittylouise · 25/09/2007 17:20

That daft song 'Umbrella' which was number one for the whole of the summer.

Um-ber-ell-a.

Aaaarghhh!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/09/2007 17:24

She's actually hard of hearing, but wont wear an aid, and despite corrections, refuses to take heed. She likes to put a mediterranean flourish on her words too, it seems.....

Go on, all kick me now....

OP posts:
pointydog · 25/09/2007 17:27

oh vvv, you stoop so low. Now you tell us she's hard of hearing

TnOgu · 25/09/2007 17:29
Grin
VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/09/2007 17:32

IT IS annoying though....she refuses to listen. (That's listen, not hear).

Today she insisted on talking about having had her genital warts cut out rather than frozen off (within earshot of our colleages).....

It's the little things, isnt it?

My MIL mispronounces my name. I did try to correct her several times as politely as I could when we first met, but I suppose I was too subtle. 8 years on it's probably too late to do anything about it, but it's like fingers on a blackboard every time she does it. Sometimes she uses my name so much I think she must be doing it on purpose

pointydog · 25/09/2007 17:35

How old is she?

My mil has cultivated her idiosynchrosies to worrying proportions over the ;ast 6 years, since turning 70.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/09/2007 18:01

Nope - always been like it - for coming up 60 years now.

It's difficult.

My granny bless her always used to call princess diana "princess diane". Used to crack me up as somehow diana and diane have quite different connotations

hunkermunker · 25/09/2007 20:04

Oh, not off her pussy, VVV [vomit]

mytwopenceworth · 25/09/2007 20:16

Lorayn, y'nit!

Middleclassbutchlesbian · 25/09/2007 20:34

mytwopenceworth, I'm lost, did you want me??
(talulahsmum gave me a new name)

mytwopenceworth · 25/09/2007 20:44

Are you lorayn?

That's a helluva name you've got there.

If this is you, I am answering you of 15:40:17 where you translated the wrong word in response to my question.

I realise this is kind of like coming to your house the day after a row, knocking on your door and saying "and another thing..."

except it's not the next day, and we weren't arguing, but apart from that.....

You think I'm a nut now, don't you?

smurfgirl · 25/09/2007 20:44

bigmouthstrikesagain - my mum is called Marie and is from Liverpool and I want to punch people who call her MARRY arghhhhhhhhh.

My Grandad refuses to say my name right. And my old clarinet teacher used to call me Hel-LIN which drove me up the wall!
