Actually, I KNOW I am, but it really annoys me that my mum pronounces the name Rachel, 'Racial'

Its like Wensday (Wednesday)
or Febuary (February)

My dad actually calls one of my cats Tiger (its name is Tigger) which really grates. Unfortunately the cat will go to him whatever so he thinks its okay.

DD also calls Cigarettes "siggriss" which irks.... (she always says it in the context of "mummy look - look at that lady with a dirty siggriss"

A friend of mine pronounces and spells frothy as froffy. She wouldn't believe me when I told her there was no such word.

empen · 26/09/2007 13:19

My DD always says Pasketti (instead of spaghetti!!) My aunty always calls my Olivio - like on the advert - made worse by her Texan accent (her name is Olivia)
My DP actually say Hirate - instead of irate - he does not believe me that it is not a word casue his mum says it too!

hifi · 26/09/2007 13:22

my mum says see a batta, ciabata

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/09/2007 13:23

I'm a Rachel too - I hate being called Racial, also am really annoyed by Racquel (sp?)

My Nanna said Qweesh instead of Quiche but I always found it endearing.

lucyellensmum · 26/09/2007 14:04

my dp uses the fact he is from SE london for his appaling pronunciation ( i gave up excusing my spelling ages ago btw!). And that is no excuse for these clangers btw.

Bap = bab

Borrow = Borreeee (that really winds me up)

Battery (which i pronounce bat tree, so i cant moan) = ba er ry

oh and my absolute favourite

Optical illusion = skeptical transfusion (im not sure if he is joking or not!).

On the subject of names, my dd1 is called Rebecca - i hate it being altered, although now i tend to call her bex, despite saying i never would.

But now she has taken it upon herself to describe herself as Bee at college - i had her form tutor ring me, asking to speak to Bee, i said i didn't know anyone by that name! Then at work (At the golden arches!) - you'll love this beki FFS!!!

I am hoping dd2 doesn't choose to call herself loose when she is older.

I thought about sophia as a name, but i knew dp and ILs would end up calling her Sofe (like sofa without the a!) I also liked charlotte, but even when i said it myself i couldnt pronounce the t at the end without making an effort so knew that would be dropped and drive me mad.

themoon66 · 26/09/2007 14:08

DH says tournaquet instead of Tumeric (the spice)

Quarm, instead of Quorn.

Oh and loads of other annoying things, but then he IS dyslexic. Drives DS up the wall.

SueBaroo · 26/09/2007 14:10

Dh calls slow songs 'Ball-ards'.

DeedeePickles · 26/09/2007 14:31

I don't know, this is all somethink and nothink

DeedeePickles · 26/09/2007 14:37

I'm off to hos-pi-cal later

ghosty · 26/09/2007 14:40

My friend's mother had a dinner party once and made a starter of Parma Ham and Melon.
She couldn't for the life of her say "Parma Ham" and kept saying "Parma Harm"

SpawnChorus · 26/09/2007 14:53

A friend of mine calls muslin cloths 'Muslims'.

"Oooh could someone pass me a Muslim?"

"Oh I just use a Muslim on my leaky boobs"

"There's a Muslim at the bottom of my bag"

etc. I have to try veeery hard not to PMSL.

SpawnChorus · 26/09/2007 14:54

And she even pronounces it with a bit of an "oo" like on book i.e. Mooslim.

runawayquickly · 26/09/2007 14:55

Great Auntie F and a friend gossiping about one of the neighbours. 'Yes, she definitely likes a drink. In fact, I suspect she's an alchoholiday.'
At last someone put a name to it... I think I am one of them!!

Boco · 26/09/2007 14:56

Fil calls muesli 'Mwezzly'

Jamantha · 26/09/2007 15:05

My sis always says nearly as if it has an n in the middle - nearnly

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/09/2007 15:09

Jannit. grrr.
I worked with a man who used to say 'I besoom' (presume).

People who say 'Asda's' or 'Tesco's'.
DP currently doing a roofing job has just pointed the chimmerly stack!
My mum says she is going to eye-ka (ikea).

doublethelovedoublethekisses · 26/09/2007 15:25

I have an Olivia as well and my uncle always calls her olivi-A (emphasis on A!) drives me mad.
Also people who say ung-yons instead of onions... that one really pees me off!

empen · 26/09/2007 17:20

Cannot say Horse Flesh - instead say Horsh Flesh.
Luckily it does not come up in conversation too much! - only when we are talking about things we can't pronounce.
btw I found this out at school years ago when we had to read a paragraph of a book to the whole class - I was ridiculed (spelling?)

SpawnChorus · 26/09/2007 17:32

I have an ongoing problem with car park. Comes out as Par Cark every time. Gah.

HorseyWoman · 26/09/2007 17:34

My DH has LOADS! He says chimerley instead of chimney; he says wardropa instead of wardrobe, mask instead of mast... Grrr, there are loads.

chipmonkey · 26/09/2007 17:43

A lady next to me in a sandwich shop asked for a bagwette.
MIL talks about eye-talian food an pronounces compromise as come-promise.

Kanga44 · 26/09/2007 18:15

Wow these have totally cheered me up no end tonight!!!! I pmsl !!!!

My main annoyance is with the Petite filous advert! 'helps make bones grow strongerer ' arrrggghghhhhhhh

Littlefish · 26/09/2007 18:37

I used to work for someone who said

bol-cony instead of balcony
Ol-fred in stead of Alfred
Fondent Farncies were his favourite cakes
and
We once sat through a whole assembly about his c-nell (canal) holiday!

It got to the point where I had to stuff my fist in my mouth every time he did it, to stop myself shouting at him
