To get the rage every time my DH places the Tesco order?

When lock down started, and booking delivery slots was difficult, I downloaded the apps for a few supermarkets and randomly tried at various times of the day to secure a slot. To process the booking that far in advance, I just ordered random items off our favourites lists. DH would then amend before the deadline.

AIBU to be totally enraged with DH, that for the fifth week running, we've had duplicate items or unnecessary items that he insists I have ordered, when I've told him weekly that I add random items to hold the booking and to amend as necessary. Every week he says yes, yes. Then does it again!

He is a pretty good DH, but we're meant to be watching every penny (he is under threat of redundancy) and yet he duplicates some of the order presumably because he can't be assed to check. AIBU?

(Full disclosure - this was happening from the start of lock down, but I just assumed it was due to stock issues or substitutions.
DH is amending the order as he is furloughed and I'm now working full time self employed, so need to offload some responsibilities.
I only add about ten items, so not massive amounts to check through)

You’re in the wrong, your plan is flawed tbh. Why can’t you do what everyone else does and add an expensive bottle of alcohol instead to reserve the slot? That’s much easier to point out as a placeholder, vs random crap that he can’t be 100% sure is a placeholder or not

Since you both clearly have access to the account, why aren't you amending the bookings to get rid of the random things you added? Why is it your DH's fault?

Why not just order items that you need every time. There must be some things that you always need

The delivery slots have been really tricky to get and it's the vulnerable that most need them..

I place hold with things I buy every week. Perhaps you could do that. Less frustrating for you.

Why don’t you just do milk/bread/eggs/ham etc?

Why doesn't he book the slots to start with, then he knows what to remove later? It's confusing when you split the task. Get him to take it over fully.

Why doesn't your husband reserve the slot? And is it still an issue? There are plenty available where we live.

Can you not just create a favourites or something that you need every time to save it? Saves time later on too

Can't he just take full responsibility for booking and putting in the holding order then he knows what he has done and you don't need to think about shopping at all. Alternatively add in the stuff you use every week and let him add the rest rather than random stuff.

He could click "empty basket" as soon as he goes to amend the order then start afresh? Makes it simpler than trying to find stuff

He doesn't want the app on his phone, taking up memory. He uses the online account on the PC, but can't be bothered with the constant random checking (although the slots are getting better).
We are both high risk (I'm working from home).
He would likely keep the expensive alcohol!
I do order stuff we normally have each week - he just duplicates with a different size/brand and doesn't check the order.
A family member and a good friend have died during lockdown, and im trying to build a business, I have no strength left for other stuff.

Have you both fully functioning bodies and a car?

Why can't you agree that only one of you handles the online shop and the other person butts out.

We've been doing click and collect for at least 6 weeks and DH has got used to me doing it, even though he always used to do all the shopping before CV.

I ask him to let me know of anything he notices we're getting low on and I add it to the order. We have a final review of the complete list together, the day before collection just to make sure we agree with it.

Anything we think is over ordered we remove before finalising it.

It really isn't difficult if one of you manages it 100%. Too many cooks and all that ....

Your DH sounds like a man-child, for which there is no cure.

You can check out with just a bottle of milk. And do a final check on the order before the deadline.

Yabu my DP managed to order 35 pints of milk which arrived last Sunday. No need to be annoyed though.

If it’s bothering you that much why don’t you just amend your existing orders now so they only have eg an apple or a pint of milk in the basket and then it really doesn’t matter if they get left in.

Put one item in - the same item each time. Make it something you never buy so he knows it’s a slot-saver item. Then he can log in to amend the order, simply remove the ‘Mr Boggles Pigs Ears (or whatever) and there’s never any confusion. Make the single item something cheap, obvious and definitely not something you’d want.

We've just discussed it (again!). He's going back to doing it all, now the slots are easier to come by. I can butt out, and go back to dealing with other more important things in my life!
