To get the rage every time my DH places the Tesco order?

When lock down started, and booking delivery slots was difficult, I downloaded the apps for a few supermarkets and randomly tried at various times of the day to secure a slot. To process the booking that far in advance, I just ordered random items off our favourites lists. DH would then amend before the deadline.

AIBU to be totally enraged with DH, that for the fifth week running, we've had duplicate items or unnecessary items that he insists I have ordered, when I've told him weekly that I add random items to hold the booking and to amend as necessary. Every week he says yes, yes. Then does it again!

He is a pretty good DH, but we're meant to be watching every penny (he is under threat of redundancy) and yet he duplicates some of the order presumably because he can't be assed to check. AIBU?

(Full disclosure - this was happening from the start of lock down, but I just assumed it was due to stock issues or substitutions.
DH is amending the order as he is furloughed and I'm now working full time self employed, so need to offload some responsibilities.
I only add about ten items, so not massive amounts to check through)

MintyCedric what more could you need?

The solution here is that either you or him need to take responsibility and do the shopping. The combination of both of you isn't working. Why are you adding random things to hold an order and then him doing the order? Let him book the slot as well, or, when you book the slot add what you actually need and leave him out of it.

lubeybooby which store is that with please?
@MarcelineMissouri the minimum order to reserve a Tesco slot is £40. You can’t just stick a pint of milk or loaf of bread in to reserve it
Yes you can, I do so every single week

Bubbletrouble43 · 21/06/2020 08:45

I reserve my order with 40 quids worth of my favourite wine, that way if it gets forgotten I know it'll not be a waste of money 😀

@Whatifitallgoesright

Have you both fully functioning bodies and a car?
I thought the same.
ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2020 08:54

I'm glad it appears the situation has resolved, I think if I was in that situation and there was a minimum order to reserve the slot, I'd put in something DH wouldn't use but which would keep for ages like really nice shampoo, or if I was younger, a years supply of tampons. Good wine would be rewarding poor behaviour!Grin

@Serin, 'people like you'? You mean vulnerable, shielding people? The people who need delivery slots to protect the NHS and people like your boss.

Why don't you do a shopping pool in work, if you are so concerned? You can go straight in with an NHS badge. Or get angry at the government and not vulnerable people? It's worrying that you work in the NHS and have an attitude that you've displayed.

This just shows that we don't consider those working and being active members of society as being vulnerable. The 'vulnerable' really are 'othered'.

Go to aldi it's cheap.

PickAChew · 21/06/2020 09:20

If he can't be bothered with the random checking then he just needs to get off his arse and go to the shop.

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/06/2020 09:32

I never thought of holding the order with champagne / other expensive alcohol. Makes so much sense! Until, like my neighbour, you find you can't log on to the site to change the order. It took her an hour and a half on the phone to get it sorted.

I placehold with cat meat and weekly staples from my favourites list - takes me minutes.

Womencanlift · 21/06/2020 09:35

Are delivery slots still so much of an issue that the “these should be saved for people that need them” comments are warranted?

Yes there were issues at the start but I have had no issues getting slots for Asda since about April. And family who live in different parts of the country are the same, no stress and they shop with Asda, Tesco and Morrisons

ScarlettDarling · 21/06/2020 09:42

@MadameMeursault

YABU for taking a slot that a shielding or vulnerable person or NHS worker could have had. Beyond that I don’t care if you get shopping you shouldn’t get. First world problem Biscuit
Why would an NHS worker be more entitled to a delivery slot than the op Confused? Yes, lots of NHS workers work long hours but I'd presume they are still capable of going to a supermarket like other shift workers do?
RightOnTheEdge · 21/06/2020 09:44

Wow! So many people not RTFT! Hmm

 1. It has been said many times that the OP and her DH are high risk.
 1. She's already said its been resolved and he's taking over the whole shopping thing.

I can't believe the posters saying he's incompetent so OP needs to take over and do it!
No, he's an adult man not a baby. He's furloughed and the OP is working full time. The OP already said she was having to look for slots because he couldn't be bothered.

You just have to go full Cleopatra at that point.
Brilliant! GrinGrin

FiveShelties · 21/06/2020 09:56

@Itsjustabitofbanter I order my Mum's shopping and always reserve the slot with one or two items. The site just says you will be charged 4GBP fee which disappears when you update it with the full order. You could have them deliver one item but you would have to pay the 4GBP fee.

Bubbletrouble43 · 21/06/2020 16:32

@ErroltheDragon
My dp doesn't drink wine, it's all for me 😀
I'm not sure why so many comments suggesting it's out of order to have delivery... The slots are plentiful and many of us have good reasons for delivery besides shielding eg in charge of dc who aren't allowed in shops whilst dp working extremely long hours albeit from home to cover furloughed staff.

Gingerkittykat · 21/06/2020 18:04

I thought the shaming for taking supermarket slots from people individuals find unworthy of them had stopped now.

I can get a click and collect order for the next day at Asda now, almost every time slot was free.
