To get the rage every time my DH places the Tesco order?

Rushhomeroad · 20/06/2020 21:30

When lock down started, and booking delivery slots was difficult, I downloaded the apps for a few supermarkets and randomly tried at various times of the day to secure a slot. To process the booking that far in advance, I just ordered random items off our favourites lists. DH would then amend before the deadline.

AIBU to be totally enraged with DH, that for the fifth week running, we've had duplicate items or unnecessary items that he insists I have ordered, when I've told him weekly that I add random items to hold the booking and to amend as necessary. Every week he says yes, yes. Then does it again!

He is a pretty good DH, but we're meant to be watching every penny (he is under threat of redundancy) and yet he duplicates some of the order presumably because he can't be assed to check. AIBU?

(Full disclosure - this was happening from the start of lock down, but I just assumed it was due to stock issues or substitutions.
DH is amending the order as he is furloughed and I'm now working full time self employed, so need to offload some responsibilities.
I only add about ten items, so not massive amounts to check through)

Great result there @Rushhomeroad take a deep breathe and relax - you've been through a lot so be kind to yourself.

LunaMuffinTop · 20/06/2020 21:58

I think you should place hold with things you want.

@Whatifitallgoesright they obviously have functioning bodies and a car but the op has just said that they are both high risk so what you just said is both pointless and totally unnecessary.

daisychain01 · 20/06/2020 22:00

I'm definitely putting a bottle of bubbly and a big bag of kettle chips in next week's shop and forget to remove them

CoRhona · 20/06/2020 22:02

This. Then you can't lose - he orders it, you get a treat. He doesn't, you're happy Wink

LastTrainEast · 20/06/2020 22:04

You can reserve a tesco slot with 1 pint of milk. It need not be more than the £40.

Rushhomeroad · 20/06/2020 22:06

Ha ha, I definitely add nice stuff for me!!

(and this thread has taught me about 'empty basket', expensive alcohol place holders and that you don't have to reach a minimum spend - so thanks!)

Yabu my DP managed to order 35 pints of milk which arrived last Sunday.

You just have to go full Cleopatra at that point.

AWryGiraffe · 20/06/2020 22:25

I always thought you needed a £40 min basket for Tesco to check out.

Franklydear · 20/06/2020 22:27

I add one banana to hold the slot, and then the evening before we do the list while cooking dinner, it takes 10 minutes, I am shielding so really need to make sure I get everything in there, it’s my only provision for the week.

Twillow · 20/06/2020 22:27

You do know you don't have to accept everything they send, if you don't need it, not just substitutes?

Franklydear · 20/06/2020 22:28

@AWryGiraffe, it will charge you extra, as it’s not the minimum necessary, but it will remove it when you add the rest

Crockodoodle · 20/06/2020 22:30

No, you can check out with any amount it just adds a packing charge which is removed when you spend, £40. I know because DH wouldn't believe me but I checked out with one single carrot a 7p. I also always place hold with champagne just in case I forget to amend the order and add anything else at least I'd be happy when it arrived.

Also shock horror I use delivery and I'm not high risk.

lankylemon · 20/06/2020 22:32

Why don’t you just hold the order with things you actually want? That’s what we do...

MadameMeursault · 20/06/2020 22:41

YABU for taking a slot that a shielding or vulnerable person or NHS worker could have had. Beyond that I don’t care if you get shopping you shouldn’t get. First world problem Biscuit

Milkshake54 · 20/06/2020 22:42

The only issue with place holding with one item is if that item goes out of stock, your slot gets cancelled! At least that’s what happened to my vulnerable shielding mum one week!

AWryGiraffe · 20/06/2020 22:42

Well you learn something new! Having said that I always put on a bottle of booze, so no risk of being disappointed.

OP has already been back to explain that they are both high risk and cannot go to the shops.

Even if that wasn’t the case, your post is needlessly unpleasant.

Noconceptofnormal · 20/06/2020 22:47

This is a complete non problem. As pp said, just put a bottle of champagne in your basket to reserve the slot and then remove before doing the shop properly.

It's what I've been doing, the only thing that's interesting about this thread is finding out how many other people do this as well.

For this you win my internet post of the week. 🏆🥇

YABU for taking a slot that a shielding or vulnerable person or NHS worker could have had. P

Slots are readily available in my area, so why not book them?

Serin · 20/06/2020 22:57

My boss works FT in an NHS frontline worker role treating Covid patients. She is a single parent. She has no local support. She struggles to get a delivery slot because of people like you.

Tumbleweed101 · 20/06/2020 22:58

I just add milk which I will always need to hold the slot. You only need one item. Slot are definitely getting easier to get hold of now though.

Rosebel · 20/06/2020 23:06

People like you? You mean vulnerable people who are at a high risk?

notangelinajolie · 20/06/2020 23:11

Surely everyone knows you reserve the slot with alcohol? That way any duplications are an added bonus.

I think the best way round this is to tell your DH to keep out of your shopping list and do his own.
