Are this Govt fit for office??

Ok here we go. Hand on heart are this Govt fit for office? Before you answer take into consideration.

  1. Huge balls up with PPE at beginning of pandemic.
  2. The Cummings debacle and how they defended the indefensible.

3.The handling of the schools and the millions of children not having any education and still no concrete plans in place.
4.Track and trace app being about as useful as a chocolate teapot, although they were told it would not work 2 months ago.
5.The U turn after pressure on free school meals.
  1. Spending a million pound painting a bloody aeroplane.
  2. Dominic Raab likening Taking the knee to something from Game of Thrones.

They seem to stumble from one disaster to another. Are other first world countries governments as incompetent as ours seem to be?

@Thedogscollar

The achievement of this Government was retaining power.

Let's not forget that a year ago Johnson was not well liked by most of his fellow MP's. They would gladly have voted for anybody but Johnson as leader but they sheepishly felt that he had to be put forward to the membership (the blue rinse brigade) because the grass roots apparently 'adored' him and his Brexit stance.

Hunt might have been a better candidate (might) but Johnson had signed up most of the failed leadership candidates - Raab, Hancock, Javid etc presumably with the promise of top jobs if he won. (I mean he wouldn't want to do any work himself would he)? The Tory membership (Oh isn't Boris funny/handsome/a bit of a devil etc) duly delivered.

So we have all been stitched up by sheepish Tory MP's who saw Johnson as a Brexit figurehead and a ticket to another 5 years excessive salary and 120,000 paid up Tory party members who were mainly united by a fear of Corbyn.

Then came the tricky part - actually running the country. Unfortunately it seems they couldn't read Dom Cummings handwriting and read it as ruining the country.........

I don't think that's true;

First ballot;
"Boris Johnson has secured the highest number of votes in the first MPs' ballot to select the Conservative Party leader and next prime minister."

"Mr Johnson received 114 votes, significantly more than his nearest rival Jeremy Hunt, who came second with 43. Michael Gove was third with 37."

Ahead of the second ballot;

"The BBC's chief political correspondent Vicki Young said there were "a lot of nerves around" although the "one certainty" in Tuesday's poll was that Mr Johnson would again finish top."

We don't know for certain that corbyn would have been worse to be fair. We'd need to have a fresh pandemic with him in charge to see how he copes.

But our current one has been a joke let's face it. My cat could have done a better job.

I think it’s all been about the money and cronyism. Less inept behaviour more deliberate and corrupt self serving action that has been entirely dismissive of life.

They've not covered themselves in glory, but I think we are in less of a mess than we would have been with a government led by Jeremy Corbyn.

This is what people who know they are responsible for the shitstorm we are in tell themselves because they can't admit they are responsible. That they voted a farce into government (which they were warned about again and again) and we are in this mess because of them.

Given the idiot has proven himself so hopelessly inept so often in so many roles, who the hell thought it was a good idea to make the twit Prime Minister?!

@Clavinova

Being liked and being voted for are two different things.

As I said a lot of Tory MP's thought they had a duty to vote for him so that the Party Members could vote for him on the final ballot.

And a lot of them thought the chances of another 5 years salary as an MP were slim unless the party appointed a charismatic leader likely to attract votes in a general election.

As for actually liking him well he had given plenty of examples of being lazy, incompetent, self-serving, unprincipled, morally weak etc. Most people, including fellow MP's do not LIKE these traits - but their own desire for power trumped their integrity.

Hence the voting you quoted.

I read somewhere else some quote about Johnson always wanting to BECOME PRIME MINISTER; and always wanting to HAVE BEEN PRIME MINISTER.

Unfortunately for him there is the bit in the middle - actually BEING PRIME MINISTER that is so self-evidently beyond his capabilities.

@Noextremes2017 Bojo is the PM in name only as we all know it's DC who pulls the strings. Boris is only fit for appearing on HIGNFY should have stuck to his original act.

If only we'd paid more attention to the warning from his classics teacher at Eton. "Boris sometimes seems affronted when criticised for what amounts to a gross failure of responsibility, and surprised at the same time that he was not appointed Captain of the School..." It is a pretty accurate summing up. It was clear to the majority in Scotland that a lazy and entitled individual like Boris would make a terrible PM and I'm still raging that this ghastly government has been forced on us.

No, they are incompetent at best. I wasn't a big fan of Theresa May but by god I believe she would have handled this much better than the current fools (I say fools as I am referring mainly to the pseudo PM and the person actually really in charge).

I agree with the PP they truly do have blood on their hands.

I'm really, really struggling to imagine how exactly a Corbyn government could be worse than this. I'm no Labour voter either for what it's worth.

Sheer bumbling incompetence? Nope, everything this lot touch turns to shit

Tanking the economy? Nope, already taken care of that thanks very much

Completely wrong priorities? Well we did dilly-dally around doing nothing full in the knowledge that was going to kill people. I'm not sure what takes priority over human lives.

Lack of talent on the Labour front bench? Lol, Pritti Patel, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab and Co say 'hi'.

Momentum loonies control the Labour Party and would have turned us into a Marxist state! - Cummings and his determination to turn us into a unregulated, exploitative free-market, race-to-the-bottom, xenophobic, drawbridge up, exclusionary hell hole, that practices eugenics, and exists for no other reason than to accumulate wealth for the already wealthy, looks just great so far, eh?

And the absolute icing on the cake - 'He's got a dodgy past!'

How many illegitimate children is the PM an absentee father to now exactly? Is there a single ethnic group or nationality he hasn't written a racist article or given a bigotry-laden speech about? Never mind the suspicion he's not shy in indulging in a bit of domestic violence.

They are appallingly incompetent. Yes, the pandemic was bad luck for them but they could see what was happening in other countries and they could have moved way sooner. When I came over to the UK in early March, my sister (NHS doctor) was really worried about me seeing my aged and infirm father because she knew what was around the corner - so why the hell didn't those supposedly running the country know and act accordingly?

@Clavinova

Regarding the first part of my comment you chose to highlight it was widely reported at the time that the party membership wanted Johnson in the final run-off. And it was widely voiced by those party members interviewed by the media. That is not an opinion.

My second comment concerning Johnson’s endearing character and the fact that MP’s were not positive about it is indeed an opinion. If you are suggesting that they actually liked his lazy, incompetent, self serving character, I guess you could be right. Let’s face it, he isn’t unique amongst Conservative MP’s in those respects.

To answer your question:

Because they followed one policy up until about 16 March which was to let the virus run its course (herd immunity etc). Then they changed tack completely when they got scared too many people would die following that policy; pressed the panic button; and changed policy to lockdown.
Blame the SAGE ‘experts’ as well as the Government.
