Is spending £900k on painting a plane ridiculous at any time and even more so right now?

Especially ridiculous given the controversy about cutting free meals etc

YANBU. The optics are shocking. They might find it funny to stick two fingers up at the British public but at a time when many are suffering it just sticks in the craw.

The school meal plan was £1.2m, I think. The plane costs nearly as much. It’s disgusting. It’s also pointless and embarrassing. If they want the UK to have a brand, the flag on its own won’t do, it’s just empty. I can’t see how it will help with negotiations. This is probably an overreaction but it feels like the last straw.

So if you think it's a good idea, why exactly?

Whilst I agree it’s a lot of money, it’s less than the US government spends on a single 5hr flight of Air Force One, just to bring a little perspective.

One story I read (think BBC) said it was a makeover to ensure it retained air to air refuelling capacity that included the painting... painting a plane at the moment is bloody ridiculous but I’m wondering if the reporting is leading us to froth unnecessarily?
