Boris Johnson's painted plane

Am I completely out of touch? I can't tell anymore.

Is spending £900k on painting a plane ridiculous at any time and even more so right now?

Well 'wind' seems appropriate, at least in once sense of the word.

Imissmoominmama · 18/06/2020 03:58

@AKissAndASmile- I’m starting to think that too!

PerfidiousAlbion · 18/06/2020 04:06

I agree.

I heard the news and immediately thought ‘what the fuck?’ Why?

Can’t he just buy a UK flag decal and a go faster stripe?

Jocasta2018 · 18/06/2020 04:21

Does anyone remember the bemusement over 'Blair Force One'? I believe right-wing politicians scoffed at the idea...

PhilCornwall1 · 18/06/2020 06:02

I guess they'll give the plane a new tail number. I'm going to suggest G-CUNT

Endless11 · 18/06/2020 06:19

YANBU - typical Boris - all he knows is how to do propaganda - he doesn’t know how to govern nor does he do want to do the work involved. All hell is breaking loose and that 900,000 would be better spent elsewhere (vulnerable children maybe??).

The sooner he is replaced, the better (not because of the plane, but because of everything else).

ohoneohtwo · 18/06/2020 06:19

@ShinyFootball

Go take a look at their Facebook page. You seem to think I am lying about this for some reason. I'm not.

kw1091 · 18/06/2020 08:07

The same week Public Health England announced they don’t have the funds to pay student nurses and midwives for the full 6 months they opted in to work for cutting their training short. I understand money comes from all different pots but come on.

Elai1978 · 18/06/2020 08:12

My point is that we spend very little on transporting our leader in comparison to other countries. This particular RAF Voyager costs around £2000/hr to operate which represents excellent value for money when compared to Air Force One for example which is approx 100x that. £900k IS a lot of money but really is a drop in the ocean when compared to other RAF spending, a single air-to-air missile can cost more than £1.5m.

Mumoblue · 18/06/2020 08:21

900k to paint a fucking plane while food banks have never been busier.

If the Tories get in again after this, I'm moving back to Scotland. I dont care who gets in, just not them. Lord Buckethead would do a better job.

Roussette · 18/06/2020 08:30

This is diversionary tactic. There is a huge outcry about merging the International Dev and Foreign Office, Cameron, Gordon Brown and Blair have all strongly condemned the move. Christian Aid, Oxfam and Save the Children are gutted about this but the Foreign office has been increasingly hijacking the foreign aid budget (half of it last year). BoJo wants something in return for the aid we give. Very Trumpian.

So let's do something really controversial like repainting a plane with union jacks and Brexit slogans so that no one notices what we're doing with these two departments, because of the outcry about the plane.

Don't forget BoJo has said he thinks we should commission a new Royal Britannia yacht as a 'morale boost'. The royal yacht was decommissioned for a reason. It was mega expensive and not popular.

Cabinet sources say the plane will be painted in an 'Austin Powers style union jack'.
You couldn't make it up.

I can only assume that BoJo is making the most of this brief period as PM before he is gone.

CherryPavlova · 18/06/2020 08:38

Yes diversionary tactic. Give them something to be angry about and hide other stuff.

ohoneohtwo · 18/06/2020 09:01

People are using food banks up here in Scotland too.

Mumoblue · 18/06/2020 09:08

@ohoneohtwo Yeah, I wasn't trying to say that there's no food banks in Scotland. Just that I think Nicola Sturgeon is actually trying to do her job.
Lots of my family are still living there and I had thought to stay down here because I thought it would give my son a better future. But I've really lost faith in England recently. It just seems like no one cares down here.

This is just my feelings on it. I'm not pretending I have the most objective view on it.

Ifancyabacontoastedsarnie · 18/06/2020 09:12

This isnt the time... if he wants to paint his plane then he might have to take it out his own wages.. im sure he wont need to rely on food banks as a consequence... or get a pot of dulux and diy Hmm

ohoneohtwo · 18/06/2020 09:14

This isnt the time... if he wants to paint his plane

It's not his plane.

Ifancyabacontoastedsarnie · 18/06/2020 09:16

i find it hard to believe it would cost that much tbh

Ifancyabacontoastedsarnie · 18/06/2020 09:17

@ohoneohtwo

This isnt the time... if he wants to paint his plane

It's not his plane.

This is the title of the thread
ShinyFootball · 18/06/2020 09:19

I don't think anyone is lying! Good grief.

I find it an interesting choice to do it. If someone can give a link to their aircraft painting arm that would be awesome.

ohoneohtwo · 18/06/2020 09:21

This is the title of the thread

So? It's still not his plane. Let's not have the facts get in the way of a good moan though.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/06/2020 09:21

Sticking with the plane... Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group, the company doing the work, is NOT a painting company!!!

chomalungma · 18/06/2020 09:23

$6000 CIA hammers are probably part of the calculation....

I wonder if he has an escape capsule, just like in Escape from New York

ohoneohtwo · 18/06/2020 09:25

I don't think anyone is lying! Good grief.

You were very confrontational, if that was not because you didn't believe me then please forgive me for not having a clue why you were like that.

^Show me on their site where it talks about this as a service.

^
Yep painting a plane sounds right up their Street
^

But painting a plane? Nope not their business.^

Just a few of your comments that indicate you didn't believe me

Theworldisfullofgs · 18/06/2020 09:25

Oh the pedantry.

Ok. I'll correct it. Boris Johnson wants to spend £900k painting a plane when we have are about to hit possibly the worst recession we've faced in decades (paraphrasing his chancellor). Any better?
