If, like me, you see the lack of education provision for months and the devastating effect on the UK economy and people's livelihoods as marginally more important than a bunch of millionaires kicking a ball about you can come here to lament the lack of fucks around these parts. Football widows welcome.

I am glad it is back on. Just a shame for some of the smaller teams where money was tight as it was. It's a big part of fiancé's life and a major way for him to connect with his family. It meant seeing his family every two weeks for him too going to all the home games together and it's just a shame that this is lost now

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 17/06/2020 18:55

Fuck, I've missed the football. I can't wait until I can actually go to a game again Grin

Samcro · 17/06/2020 18:58

I detest football, to many birthdays ruined by it(cheers big brother)
I made sure I married someone who fet the same way.
BUT
A lot of people love it. So for them im glad its back.

ilovesooty · 17/06/2020 18:58

@Anniegetyourgun

When people try to engage me in a discussion about football I reply crushingly (or at least that's the intention!), "I used to be interested in football. Then I grew up".
Oh very witty

Patronising.

Sandybval · 17/06/2020 18:59

I don't really get the correlation between a sporting organisation managing to safely play games which will bring a lot of people a slither of joy, and the governments incompetency which means schools aren't fully open.

Cismyfatarse1 · 17/06/2020 19:03

Do you know what I would like to see.

Women playing football. Women playing netball. Bloody tiddlywinks. Anything.

I cannot believe in 2020 so much of our air time is taken up with MEN kicking a ball around.

I think broadcasters (particularly the BBC) should be required to give equal air time to women's sport. It is bloody disgraceful and no wonder teenaged girls often stop playing - they never see any women doing it.

Not sure if I would watch but it is utterly disgraceful.

Lansonmaid · 17/06/2020 19:04

Not fussed with football one little bit but looking forward to rugby restarting in August.....

ScarfLadysBag · 17/06/2020 19:05

I doubt anyone is going to be 'crushed' by that response, PP Grin

I don't care for football myself but not everyone who enjoys it is a lager-swilling lout who beats their wife up at the weekends Confused Plenty of perfectly normal members of society watch and enjoy it, just like every sport, and have no need to 'grow up'. My stepfather coaches and watches football and also has a high-up role in the NHS and volunteers for charity. I don't think he needs to grow up Wink

FrippEnos · 17/06/2020 19:05

Well OP at least you are consistent.

All your going to do is whinge on MN.

Proudboomer · 17/06/2020 19:08

I am a woman and i like Men’s football.
Not so keen on women’s football as the game is slower.

I dont see why I should watch women’s football just because we share the same chromosomes.

lovepickledlimes · 17/06/2020 19:09

@Proudboomer fully agree there

Hobnobswantshernameback · 17/06/2020 19:15

I love football
Love going occasionally with my eldest it's great to have something in common with my young adult son
DH not fussed at all
I'm all set up with sky and bt sport so I can watch my local team and the premiership
Who knew aye we are all different and the sport coming back is something that is really peeking me up
Shame I can't watch it in the pub

UserFriendly14 · 17/06/2020 19:16

@mynameiscalypso

I really hate these type of threads for a number of reasons - the assumption that women can't be interested in football; the assumption that all footballers are millionaire arseholes who don't give a shit; the assumption that just because you personally don't like something that it makes anyone who does like it somehow lesser.

My neighbour on the other side of the party wall is an Arsenal fan. I'm just hoping he hasn't invited his mates round to watch the later match and sing along to football anthems well into the early hours Hmm

KingJarvisofPulp · 17/06/2020 19:20

I’m glad it’s back. It doesn’t make you a lesser person if you like it. The snobbery on this thread is astounding.
Oh and Women’s football get a lot of air time but it’s not for me, I like to watch men kicking a ball around a field. It’s better.

hashtagbollocks · 17/06/2020 19:21

gosh aren't you clever and witty.

have you missed the bit about the millions of ££££'s in revenue that top flight and lower football brings to the country?
Personally I find it boring.
There again i find the motor manufacturing industry boring but appreciate it brings in money / jobs and would be devastating to the economy to lose it.

If you prefer men's football. Great. But give the rest of us a chance. They used to prefer men's votes too.

I tell you what though, I’d love to know how every footballer has perfect hairstyles...

The80sweregreat · 17/06/2020 20:14

I've found my people.
Don't give a monkeys.
It's all about the money!

Rhine · 17/06/2020 20:16

Last night I saw loads of comments on social media saying about Marcus Rashford ‘respect from a Liverpool/ManCity/Arsenal etc fan’. Why do they need to tell you which club they support when giving ‘respect’ to someone who’s done a decent thing? It really doesn’t mater what fucking football team you support, who cares? They do it when something bad happens as well. Like when the Leicester owner died in a plane crash ‘RIP from a Liverpool/United/Chelsea etc fan’.

I don’t get it?

ShiningTor · 17/06/2020 20:17

My DP's job depends on it along with many other people, certainly not all millionaires. It's a whole industry. I'm glad he still has a job.

KingJarvisofPulp · 17/06/2020 20:18

Of course it’s about money. The economy needs it. People will die without an economy
The80sweregreat · 17/06/2020 20:18

My brothers are the complete opposite of the usual football supporter stereotypes but they just enjoy watching it and find it funny that I do not care one jot about it.
They grew up in the 1950s when it was played by men not earning zillions and had a kind of passion that seems lacking in today's sponsorship world.
