If, like me, you see the lack of education provision for months and the devastating effect on the UK economy and people's livelihoods as marginally more important than a bunch of millionaires kicking a ball about you can come here to lament the lack of fucks around these parts. Football widows welcome.

I don't care at all for myself but DS1 is so happy about it. He's had his final year at uni ruined so I'm happy he has something to be excited about.

IDGAF about ANY of the sport restarting. Television has been bliss without it

Totally agree.

heartsonacake · 18/06/2020 09:09

Yeah, you don’t give a fuck so much that you got angry and started a thread about it Hmm

(And no, neither DH or I watch football.)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/06/2020 09:27

Fuck me. People can really be patronising while stupid at the same time.

"It's disgraceful there is not enough women football/netball etc on tv. I probably wouldn't wants, but it should be there"🙄 No. Tv is business. Tv will have what people watch. If people, including you don't watch it, they won't have proper revenue from it.

No. You don't "like it and then grow up". You liked it and then became patronising arse.

Men can name footballers but not a chancellor? Kind of same like women knowing all Love Island gossip but having no idea who is home secretary... Let's face it. Lots of people couldn't say who was chancellor before Sunak. Now everyone knows because they are on tv number of times a week.

We all have things others don't give a fuck about. Doesn't mean we are less and they are better and smarter. Plus the football brings millions to local economies and create thousands of jobs.

You asked AIBU so you can't expect only people who agree with you. 🤷🏻‍♀️
SummerBaby2020 · 18/06/2020 10:33

The only reason I’m glad it’s back is because I’m just about to have my first LO and for the first time in weeks I got a bit of respite from the constant “ are you ok? Is baby ok? Why are you pulling that face are you sore? Is that labour starting? ( that face I’m sure every pregnant women pulls when trying to get up at the end of pregnancy and then waddling about like a duck with elephant feet and sausage fingers 😂 ) “ so in a way yes I’m glad it’s back but I’m sure that will be short lived lol Hmm

Rhubarbcrumblerules · 18/06/2020 10:48

Don't mind it being on TV when I can avoid it by changing channel but when they mess with the scheduling of my favourite progammes just to air a match that gets my goat!!!!

FallenSky · 18/06/2020 10:48

I don't think there would be enough hours in the day for me to start a thread about every hobby I don't like. I obviously wouldn't though because I realise that not everybody in the world likes the same things.

I love football. I've been shielding since March 20th. Life has been utterly shit. I sat there last night watching the football and I felt so happy. It felt like the teeniest bit of normality and it really lifted my spirits. I don't know why anyone would sneer or ridicule me for that.

Mayorquimby2 · 18/06/2020 11:23

@Anniegetyourgun

When people try to engage me in a discussion about football I reply crushingly (or at least that's the intention!), "I used to be interested in football. Then I grew up".
Oh cringe

100% agree
SkinnywannabeKBH · 18/06/2020 11:30

Hate football because of the stupid amount of money they get paid just to kick a ball about. Yes, I know they all train hard and exercise a lot, but so do millions of other people, whilst holding down a job and family life. I don't understand why footballers get paid sooooooooo much. It doesn't make sense. We have 1 TV in our house and I have warned my husband that I am not sitting watching football every night. He can watch on his phone if he's that desperate

Thurmanmurman · 18/06/2020 11:31

@Anniegetyourgun. Pathetic, and just about the least 'crushing' thing I've ever heard.

araiwa · 18/06/2020 11:51

Footballers make so much money because they have a desired set of skills and they make a lot of money for their clubs

WildSkitty · 18/06/2020 12:00

I have missed it (mainly because I'm currently winning in our fantasy league!) and watched the matches last night.

However, it makes me pretty annoyed that there is no social distancing, most of the people in masks (apart from the medics) had them on incorrectly, and some of the players were spitting.

My kids can't go to school, we can't get closer than 2 metres to family members, and yet these guys can give each other a hug and a pat on the back after a goal? Where is the parity in this? It really is all down to money and that makes me sick.

HPLikecraft · 18/06/2020 12:14

I’m not interested in football (except for the World Cup. A little) and it has no impact on my life whether it’s on or off. I don’t understand the point of this thread, though. If you truly DGAF, OP, why the post?

If people have missed football and are looking forward to it, then actually I think it’s good that it’s returning. Lots of people have gone without so many things they enjoy over the past few months.

LaurieMarlow · 18/06/2020 12:17

It’s very simple.

High demand and willingness to pay for the most skilled.

Welcome to capitalism.

SimonJT · 18/06/2020 12:17

My boyfriend is a huge Arsenal fan, he was so happy football was back on, obviously that didn’t last long! Its only fair he gets to bore me with football as I make him watch me play rugby.

TulipsTwoLips · 18/06/2020 12:20

So many assumptions in this thread!

Pelleas · 18/06/2020 12:30

No fucks given in our house - thank goodness my husband isn't interested in it.

I'm happy for the sake of others who enjoy it. The 'overpaid footballers' thing is just a function of so many people being willing to shell out silly amounts on merchandise, sports TV subscriptions etc. Some people seem to talk about this as though footballers were on a government mandated salary, but it's simply how capitalism works.

I suppose what mainly annoys me about football is the way major tournaments tend to be thrust down your throat - even at work, where you have no choice but to go (in normal non-pandemic times) - TV schedules disrupted etc. That's not something that happens with the routine domestic competitions, though, so I expect I will be able to ignore the grand reopening Football.

SausageCrush · 18/06/2020 12:31

Another who doesn't give a damn about football.
Would much rather the media gave more attention to the pressing issues of the day; like getting our kids back to school... Hmm

YeahWhatevver · 18/06/2020 12:34

Watching the BBC news this morning and listening to pundits and reporters just talking utter garbage about the mindset of players, the logistics of the game, the effect on the league, in depth "assessment" of team strategies etc can't believe how much padding there is in the coverage of it.

Made me realise how nice it's been without it.

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2020 12:42

To be fair to football fans I know people who moan and moan when Wimbledon is on bbc both channels. ( it's not on this year of course)
At least a lot of football is on pay per view (unless it's a huge tournament every few years. ) The paying them a fortune bit isnt great but if clubs are prepared to pay it then it is what it is. Not all footballers earn millions.
I'd rather schools were debated more , but it seems stalemate just now on that score.

Pukkatea · 18/06/2020 12:51

I can understand thinking footballer's salaries are ridiculous but not understanding how they are paid so much? It's incredibly basic.

So much snobbery on here. The classic 'it's just men kicking a ball around' along with criticising experts of the game for knowing more about it than you.

Not liking or knowing anything about the most popular sport in the world doesn't make you cool or edgy.

Hopingtobeamum · 18/06/2020 12:56

Tell that to the thousands of people who work in Bookmakers shops who are on minimum wage staff and have been furloughed for 3 months. Finally they can get back to work. Am sure you didn't mean any ill though.
I fully agree with you on the education provision comment though.
