To be irritated by receiving flowers

Firstly let be clear I did politely thank the sender, I'm not terrible. But I was sent flowers in the post yesterday and my only reaction was annoyance.

I don't own a vase so had to find a jug big enough for them. Loads of random wrapping that makes a big mess, loads of water in the wrapping that I didn't know about so flooded the table, spilt half the packet of the food liquid stuff which is very sticky, couldn't cut through the thick stems with first pair of scissors and had to use a knife.

Then they last a little while and don't even look that nice, and once they are past their best there's smelly, slimy water to deal with a drippy bunch of dead plant matter to chuck away.

I would happily never be sent or given flowers ever again. Just me or anyone else not like them?

I agree OP. Even worse having to deal with that and a newborn.

A friend took the time and money to send you flowers and all u can do is bloody moan about not having a vase, use a bloody pint glass you weirdo. Obviously this "friend" has no idea who you actually are, only someone dead inside would

can’t believe an adult household doesn’t own a vase

I had two at one point. Both were presents. One broke and one is probably somewhere in a cupboard but nowhere obvious.

Now I want to know what the other objects that are pre-requisites of an adult home.

Since thread has just been revived by an excitable poster 🤣, I feel I should also join you OP in your yesterday's pondering question about other things an Adult home should have ....

I believe The list would include -

• A. nut cracker

• A fire poker

• A sherry or port decanter that gathers dust

-An electric zapper for flies that's never charged and your kids use to hit each other with as it looks like a tennis racket, so you hid it years ago on top of the kitchen units

• A set of table cloths you never use because you use mats or don't bother

• at least 3 ornaments on your fireplace that have no purpose at all

• Dead decorative twigs in the only vase you do own

• A 'for best' patterned crockery set gathering dust somewhere that you got given at your wedding which you secretly hate

• And at least 6 of those funny knives that you use for fish course at dinner parties that you have never ever ever used

• A set of guest towels that you keep immaculately in the cupboard snarling at anyone in your family that dares to use them when they clearly are not guests! 😆

I’m not keen on flowers . Small bunches of roses or tulips are fine but I wouldn’t want a huge bouquet . I prefer to grow my own and if someone wants to buy me a gift I prefer a plant or shrub for my garden .

A double-layer food steamer
An ancient, inherited carving knife and fork
A nest of tables
Three different items that allow for different ways to make coffee
All pasta/rice/lentils etc decanted into glass jars

We are in our early 40s. When we moved to our current house 2 years ago we had a gap so had our stuff in storage for a few weeks and the guys that moved us in weren't the ones that packed us up. When they arrived they said they were surprised as they assumed from our furniture we were older!

Failed here again. But I do have a set of olive wood corn-on-the-cob forks purchased on a holiday to Cyprus. Does that count?

For eating! I can't claim credit there though. DH takes the lead in all matters relating to the purchasing, storage and preparation of food.

You take them to the sink. Use scissors to cut away the wrapping and allow the water to drain away before putting the wrapping in the bin and the flowers into a vase.
