It isn't white privilege

AIBU to think white privilege should be BAME disprivilege?
I think the majority of the time, white people are treated as everyone should be treated, and BAME are treated badly. So white aren't privileged, BAME are disprivileged?
I of course think everyone race/demographic should be treated equally. This should be achieved by treating BAME better, not white worse? If it was white privilege, we would have to treat white people worse for everything to be as it should... for example, I don't think people get job offers because they're white. I think black people dont get job offers because they're black.

I know this isn't very significant or going to change the world, just thinking out loud

You can't just make up new ugly-sounding words OP.

@backseatcookers Thank you for such a well written and eloquent post. You explain it so very well and as a black person appreciate the support from people like you and the fact you just get it in it’s simplicity that what we are asking for first is an awareness of this privilege (which you will be blissfully unaware pointed out), and then finding ways (in line with whatever power or authority you have) in which you can make a positive impact in the course of day to day life.

I agree with you OP, for what it's worth. White privilege is not a helpful, or accurate term.

It isn't about us. I've explained repeatedly that individual white people aren't being told they have to stop systemic racism as individuals and that they are to blame for systemic racism.

They are being asked to acknowledge systemic racism, open their eyes to it and not actively enable it - within their power, in their world.

Thanks for your nice message @RosesandAnts I've done my best to try and make it clear it's not a call for acceptance of blame, it's a call for acceptance of systemic racism and a willingness to - in the ways we can individually - acknowledge and challenge it.

I don't feel attacked by it even though I'm disabled, working class, grew up in foster care etc. Other people's struggles don't take away from mine, they are different and mine don't minimise theirs and vice versa. Please know you do have allies who get it

Respectfully, that might be what you are saying but it isn't what everyone is saying. What you are saying was exactly what I thought was being said until I saw threads on here, mainly.

Right now, I have head space for only so much. If I see racism I will call it out and I'll wait with interest to see what other strategies are suggested.
