Do you wear a face covering at the supermarket?

I don’t normally but I have a coldsore so think I’ll wear one tomorrow, hopefully I won’t get any passive aggressive comments from other shoppers that have been reported here.

No I'd say only 1-2% of people are here and most of them are wearing them wrong.

walker1891 · 12/06/2020 22:36

I've not been in a supermarket for months as I am vulnerable so should be shielding but when I am in work I do.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/06/2020 22:37

Yes. I bought cloth ones for DP and me just before they were recommended here (in Scotland) and we wear them in shops. I also gave some to my neighbour.

I have quite bad hayfever, and the second I put the mask on my nose starts to stream. No idea what that’s about.

threesmallcows · 12/06/2020 22:37

No

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2020 22:39

No.

I just keep 2m away from others.

Cecilia2016 · 12/06/2020 22:39

@viktoria

I wear a face mask whenever I go to a shop. I don't trust the advice we are given in this country. I've tried to follow the advice that was given to Italians and Germans. So I've been wearing a face mask in shops for weeks. I also have glasses and they don't go foggy if you put a tissue into the face mask (I have cloth face masks)
I agree with you. I have been wearing them since the lockdown. I went to Costco today and a lot of people where having masks on except few
Ooopsijustsnarted · 12/06/2020 22:42

No. I did buy some hand made fabric ones though off a friend.

I had to take dd to the GP last week and obviously had to wear one. I had it on for 20 mins and it was awful, I really feel for everyone who has to wear them for work.
It kept slipping down my nose, and my face felt so wet when I took it off.

Greenleavesawash · 12/06/2020 22:42

No and neither do most I’ve seen. Live in the North West. Bigger issue with gloves (and discarding irresponsibly)

Lucyccfc68 · 12/06/2020 22:42

I don't wear one. I social distance, wash my hands regularly and don't touch my face with my hands in the supermarket until I get home and wash my hands.

I do have a little chuckle though at those who wear them and spend most of their time fiddling with it, touching their face and sticking their fingers in the mouth and scratching their nose - bit pointless wearing a mask really. Those that walk round with it round their chin are a bit pointless too. I bet they just sling it on the seat in the car after being out and then wear it again without washing it. 🙄

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 12/06/2020 22:42

Yes, I do.

DianeNguyen · 12/06/2020 22:44

Yes. I seem to be in the minority where I am but I’ve noticed a few more people wearing them in the last couple of weeks but still mostly maskless shoppers out there.

Laaalaaaa · 12/06/2020 22:44

No. Please don’t be one of those mask wearers who think just because you are wearing a mask no social distancing rules apply to you.

CaptainNelson · 12/06/2020 22:45

Yes I wear one. Definitely in the minority here but I feel it's the responsible thing to do. I also have hayfever, so sneeze and cough a bit randomly, and I'm really aware of terrifying people around me. I've never had a rude comment.
I think it should be mandatory, tbh.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/06/2020 22:45

probably about 50% wearing them in shops around here
i have worn one on occasions in shops, but mostly only on public transport. Prefer a hanging visor to a mask.

spottedbadger · 12/06/2020 22:46

Yes. We have a small collection of handmade ones, wearing a mask should be a norm in my opinion. DP and I both wear them when out and about, never had any comments. Got a few funny looks when I walked into Boots wearing a mask and a large sun hat, I must have looked like I was about to rob them Grin

ScribblyGum · 12/06/2020 22:46

Yes I do. First time I felt like a total wally but then I realised that in Sainsbury’s no one cares what I’ve got on my face.
I’m quite sure it will become compulsory sooner or later, just like it is in many countries already. Then the UK will only be, ooh three or four months late to the face masks in public party, just as we have been for every other damned thing related to responding to this virus.

Jada1234 · 12/06/2020 22:48

Yes

LouLou789 · 12/06/2020 22:49

We do a big shop once a week and both wear masks, difficult with glasses but put them on my head until the “read the ingredients” moment each time

emmylousings · 12/06/2020 22:50

No, but feel like i should get used the idea / make one. I'm worrie about the glasses steaming up too. I'm pretty much blind without them.

megletthesecond · 12/06/2020 22:51

Yes you should. The more people who wear them the better.

plimm · 12/06/2020 22:51

Try taking a lysine supplement for cold sore prevention/eradication.

It really works!

LillianGish · 12/06/2020 22:53

I live in France, you have to wear them in shops and enclosed spaces - you can be fined if you don't wear them on public transport. You soon get used to it - I think of it in terms of I wear a mask to protect you, you wear your mask to protect me - it very quickly feels anti-social not to do so. The problem with the UK is no-one can do anything without arguing the toss for ages first - that's why it's trailing behind everyone else instead of leading the charge.

missingmum · 12/06/2020 22:54

No, but I don't eye roll or judge anyone who does.

DanielleHirondelle · 12/06/2020 22:56

Yes. I'm in the minority where I shop. I hate it, makes me feel a bit lightheaded, but do it because they are advisory and can perhaps give some protection to other people, and some protection would be given to me if others could be bothered to wear one. Many people don't respect personal space in the supermarket, in my experience. Unless there's good reason I think it's selfish not to do this small thing for others, uncomfortable as it is.

@Sh05 I was having the same problem. I now use a clear plaster to stick the top of the mask (fabric with nose wire) to the bridge of my nose, just gave enough of a seal to reduce the foggy glasses.

Quarantino · 12/06/2020 22:57

I do.
