Do you wear a face covering at the supermarket?

I don’t normally but I have a coldsore so think I’ll wear one tomorrow, hopefully I won’t get any passive aggressive comments from other shoppers that have been reported here.

@Sh05 Allegedly: 1) dip glasses in soapy water and let dry. Doesn't work if they have any special coatings 2) nose wire for snug fit. If your mask doesn't have a nose wire, you can buy packs of stick-on nose wires.

PurpleDaisies · 12/06/2020 22:15

No. I don’t go anywhere where it’s compulsory to wear them so I’m hoping not to use one at all.

Ali2020 · 12/06/2020 22:15

Yes I wear a face covering. I don’t give a damn what other people think. I have not had any comments but I’m tall and a bit scary looking!

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/06/2020 22:15

@Sh05 I forgot 3) - wear the mask a bit higher up the nose so your glasses hold it in place.

SpillTheTeaa · 12/06/2020 22:16

Yes always do. Never had a remark made about it. I wear them for work daily anyway so used to them.

PurpleDaisies · 12/06/2020 22:16

I find it so odd that anyone doesn't want to.

Look at the situations where they’re recommended. It’s pretty unlikely that a large supermarket would fall into the category of “difficult to socially distance”.

m00rfarm · 12/06/2020 22:17

To add to my previous post about wearing masks in Portugal. This is probably why I was able to have my hair cut and coloured yesterday (for the second time since our salons were allowed to open in June) and in the uk people are still not allowed to visit the hairdresser!

Mmsnet101 · 12/06/2020 22:21

Yes, I've discovered that Friday night is the best time to go shopping too as its mainly other people wearing masks and trying to avoid the crowds.

For those with glasses steaming up, my masks have a bit of thin wire built into the seam across the nose section that you can bend to fit around your nose, and it has a small bit of foam padding on the other side... they are comfy, stay in place AND the hot air doesn't blow out onto your glasses so doesn't steam up!

gk6277 · 12/06/2020 22:21

Yes, as I am classed as vulnerable, and my DH is even more so, this plus living in South West where the R rate has increased. I only shop at times when I know shops will be quiet, and would prefer to be over cautious than risk catching anything. I am very much in the minority in wearing a mask, but don't care about that. Shame if some people are feeling pressured to not wear a mask as in the minority and they feel uncomfortable, when they do want to wear one Confused

katseyes7 · 12/06/2020 22:23

l work in a supermarket.
Tonight l've seen a lot of people wearing face masks. Four of them only had them covering their mouths, with their noses exposed.
l've no idea how they think that works.
Oh, and one woman with the elastic hooked over one ear, and the mask dangling under her chin.

HeIenaDove · 12/06/2020 22:23

Ive not worn a face mask yet but will try from next week when they become mandatory on public transport. Bought a box from Boots today.

Smashedavacado · 12/06/2020 22:25

No I go late evening when it very quiet. Literally whole aisles are completely empty in my local Sainsbury's

damnthatanxiety · 12/06/2020 22:25

Oh please people. not the disposable ones. For the love of God, can't people think before adding to the crap in the environment.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 12/06/2020 22:27

Tesco - Yes

Waitrose -No

Frogshoe · 12/06/2020 22:28

I tried but I’m badly claustrophobic so it made me have a panic attack

Ginfordinner · 12/06/2020 22:28

DD made me a mask, and I put it in my pocket to take to the supermarket then keep forgetting to wear it. Very few people wear masks where I live.

Whatisthisfuckery · 12/06/2020 22:28

I wear one when I do the big shop, Tesco or Lidl, but for some reason I haven’t bothered at the local shop. I went to the shops today, Wilko and some other places, and I didn’t wear it, mainly because I hadn’t washed it from the big shop earlier in the week.

Bit silly really, to wear one in some places and not others. Kind of defeats the object, but in my defence they’re hard to get hold of and I can’t afford more than one.

2pinkginsplease · 12/06/2020 22:29

No I don’t And I don’t ever plan to. I keep my distance.

Catastrofuck · 12/06/2020 22:29

No. Saw maybe two people wearing them when I got my click and collect today. I notice very very few staff choose to also

PickAChew · 12/06/2020 22:30

Only in very small shops. I find them extremely claustrophobic and have quite a large, boney nose and cannot for the life of me stop my (coated) glasses from fogging, no matter how I adjust the wire. Buggered if I'm going to walk around a large, airy, not at all busy supermarket unable to see what I'm buying.

HeIenaDove · 12/06/2020 22:30

@damnthatanxiety I did/ do already have a "disposable" one that someone gave me. After going through a wash cycle inside a pillowcase it came out just fine. DH also bought two cloth ones earlier this week

I have the trivial problem of wanting to be able to breathe.

Packamack · 12/06/2020 22:32

No. Nobody does round here. Only townies wear facemasks.

PickAChew · 12/06/2020 22:32

And yes, half the people I see wearing them have them only covering their mouth. Worse than pointless.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/06/2020 22:33

I have 1 in the car if i need to go to the supermarket. If i need something I send my eldest dd in.

viktoria · 12/06/2020 22:33

I wear a face mask whenever I go to a shop.
I don't trust the advice we are given in this country. I've tried to follow the advice that was given to Italians and Germans. So I've been wearing a face mask in shops for weeks.
I also have glasses and they don't go foggy if you put a tissue into the face mask (I have cloth face masks)
