Do you wear a face covering at the supermarket?

I don’t normally but I have a coldsore so think I’ll wear one tomorrow, hopefully I won’t get any passive aggressive comments from other shoppers that have been reported here.

I feel like I can see an amendment being added to that to define face covering further.

Yes, the thing with the visor is breathing round the sides. With a mask or scarf you breathe through the material which would catch virus particles you are breathing out.

I wear a dust mask from screwfix - makes me look like Bane.

People do get out of the way. Plus it makes my breathing sound a bit Darth Vader-ish

I do for the two smaller 'Metro' supermarkets and for the open air market on Saturdays, as I cannot guarantee being 2m apart, but don't always for the large one where I do a weekly shop.

Nobodysdiary · 15/06/2020 09:42

I wore one the last couple of times and weirdly, I liked the feeling of anonymity it gave me.

InkieNecro · 15/06/2020 09:49

I don't, but I don't give a second glance to those that do unless they have a really nice one. Large Muslim population where I live and a lot of the women wearing them have matched them to their hijabs which looks really nice, plus a lot of children are wearing pokémon ones.

BiddyPop · 15/06/2020 09:51

Yes, I have done now for weeks. Lots are wearing them here, and no one has commented to me yet and I haven't seen any eyerolls at me either.

I tend to put it on while in the queue outside, I don't worry about it in the fresh air walking or in the car.

There are also a lot who are wearing plastic gloves as well, but I am not doing that generally, I sanitise my hands going in (using shop's supplies) and once I am out again (my own bottle in the car/handbag) instead.

I need to make a slightly better fitting one though, as the strings on the tie on ones are slightly short (but do tie), while the elastic one is too short so pulls very tight across my face.

I work in a big supermarket and it's quite common to see people wearing them; I'd say about 30% ish?
I did have to laugh when a customer who is classed as vulnerable took his mask off to shout at me as I asked him to move his trolley as he was blocking the way out. Idiot.

InfiniteGerbils · 15/06/2020 13:08

No I don’t, until it’s mandated just no, luckily I live somewhere with a fraction of the population density of, say, London

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 15/06/2020 13:09

I do not wear a mask. No one does wherein live, including the supermarket staff who are far more likely to be transmitting the disease than me.

I do not wear one because infection rates are incredibly low where I live and the infections are concentrated in care homes & hospitals rather than the wider community. On that basis as a competent adult I have assessed the risk to be negligible and not worth the inconvenience if wearing the mask.

yes + gloves. I was the only person in the queue for the local co-op recently, so maybe 20 people. I did get some funny looks, which I was surprised by, as surely it's common sense in a closed environment.

Cazza6474 · 15/06/2020 13:38

I work in a supermarket and have been all the way through and haven't used a mask or gloves just Normal handwashing routines
