It’s not really AIBU as it’s my opinion but anyway...

I was at work yesterday and a young woman came in and clear as day had lip fillers. I was looking thinking , I can not understand why people pay to have this done. It looks awful.

You can tell straight away that they’ve had fillers

I assume slightly enhancing them can be a positive in some cases, but some just go too far until they look like comedy lips and over do it.

I was just looking thinking, I bet that woman looked more appealing and attractive to the average person with her own, natural lips!

I felt sorry for her that she was thinking that would make her more attractive....

I dread my DD growing up seeing these imagines and finding them beautiful.

Its very popular in the town where I work. Beautiful, and very young, women who dont need any procedures walk in looking like you could stick them to a window. I dont get it, they look less attractive not more but I suspect that its because the clinic in that town doesnt do a very good job, they all have exactly the same massive "allergic reaction" look, its not been done well at all.

That said it did make me laugh when a young woman who had had it done came in and ordered the biggest burger we offer. Watching her trying to eat it when she couldnt open her mouth properly was like watching someone trying to get a sofa through a letterbox!

I think they look ridiculous. Definitely fake and accompanied by a moustache shadow. Two of my nieces are slowly ruining their faces with all of the stuff they’re doing to themselves.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 12/06/2020 17:30

Yeah they look awful and if no one notices then what's the point? I find them really distracting.

Starcup · 12/06/2020 17:33

**Maybe some sort of nod to that in your OP would have been helpful if your intention really was to criticise society...?

Unfortunately it just seemed to be unkindly over-critical of someone's appearance**

@FatalSecrets

Yes I accept I should have mentioned that in my OP. That would have made more sense. You’re right about that.

For those saying you can always tell or that people with fillers have no cupid's bow - you're wrong, you've just seen bad work done. A skilled practitioner will be able to make lip fillers look natural.

Re botox

My sister had been having it for a year before she told me, I genuinely hadnt noticed. I think it all depends on the practitioner being good at what they do and the client not going OTT. Her husband has no idea. I noticed she looked ..... fresher, brighter...hard to describe but it wasnt obvious at all until she showed me her before pictures and then I saw it.

She said it is hard to not get used to how she looks now and wanting more next time, which is where you get the waxwork face from that many celebs especially seem to have (seen Billy Crystal lately? He looks nothing like himself)

gypsywater · 12/06/2020 17:37

@MrsLipsome I love lip fillers and have them myself, but that pic shows a clear rash shadow from the fillers in the top lip!

gypsywater · 12/06/2020 17:37

Tash not rash!

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/06/2020 17:38

@MrsLipsome

Those dont look natural at all, they have the giveaway 2 lip lines, one where the natural lip line is and one where the filler stops.

Userzzz · 12/06/2020 17:39

I just saw an old friend has gotten lip fillers. She looks awful. She was so beautiful before. I genuinely felt a little despair that her face was probably gone forever..

1forAll74 · 12/06/2020 17:40

Lip fillers generally look awful, and I do feel sorry for people who follow this trend, they probably think it makes them more alluring and beautiful, but many times, it makes them look duck like and odd.

GabsAlot · 12/06/2020 17:41

they look ridiculous and everyone when theyre older will regreat it-katie price started doinf it early 20s when there was nothing wrong with her look at her now

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 12/06/2020 17:41

Grin they don't look natural at all @MrsLipsome
They look very much like typical filled lips.

GabsAlot · 12/06/2020 17:42

i can see the line where the natural lip is

notalwaysalondoner · 12/06/2020 17:43

I agree, I think because they look “better” in the kind of pouty photos which are fashionable right now, people don’t realise that they’re obvious when they talk or if you see them from a different angle. Maybe it’s possible to get subtle ones nobody notices but I’m dubious...

Isthisfinallyit · 12/06/2020 17:44

@MrsLipsome

I sincerely hope that that is you example of very noticable fillers? Because they look very unnatural.

NancyPickford · 12/06/2020 17:47

I get fillers, not to increase the size of my lips, but to fill the wrinkles around my mouth which are pretty aging. It smooths the area out and looks perfectly natural. The nurse in the clinic where I go and who does my fillers is very reluctant to give people oversized lips and when I once tentatively suggested a bit more volume in my top lip she cautioned against it.

G5000 · 12/06/2020 17:48

I've had some fillers (not lips) and got my eyes done, and nobody has noticed that I've had things done. Mostly because nobody really pays that much attention to other people, as long as your lips are not entering the room some time before you. I notice though that I look a lot younger and fresher. It's like losing a few pounds, others will not notice unless it's massive amounts, but you will still feel lighter and your clothes will fit better, so does not mean it wasn't worth it.

I don’t give a tuppenny damn what other people do with their faces. Why do we insist on judging things that are none of our business?

butterpuffed · 12/06/2020 17:52

FatalSecrets · 12/06/2020 17:52

That's fair enough Smile

I agree that society places too great a weight on unnatural beauty, which in turn places a burden on women to conform.

candilemon · 12/06/2020 17:53

Surely, the era of the slug brow is over? Don’t those people look at their reflections in mirrors?

candilemon · 12/06/2020 17:55

Yes, in the latest example of “one I prepared earlier”, the moustache-shadow is visible.

SillyCow6 · 12/06/2020 18:00

Most people seem to think that because people dont say something or stare at the area of work that they haven't noticed work has been done!

Having said that, so long as theyre not harming themselves or others then they can do as they please
