It’s not really AIBU as it’s my opinion but anyway...

I was at work yesterday and a young woman came in and clear as day had lip fillers. I was looking thinking , I can not understand why people pay to have this done. It looks awful.

You can tell straight away that they’ve had fillers

I assume slightly enhancing them can be a positive in some cases, but some just go too far until they look like comedy lips and over do it.

I was just looking thinking, I bet that woman looked more appealing and attractive to the average person with her own, natural lips!

I felt sorry for her that she was thinking that would make her more attractive....

I dread my DD growing up seeing these imagines and finding them beautiful.

MrsLipsome oh dear 😳

You could perch a brew on that top, shelf lip. Shock

Each to their own and all that but I bet you look perfectly fine without them

Bunch I love yours. You haven't tried to falsify something you don't have, you've just enhanced what's available........I think you looked fine without too tho.

Longdistance · 12/06/2020 18:03

Oh, come on. No need to be horrid. I really don’t like us woman knocking each other. It’s bad enough when the media wades in.
We’ve all been conditioned to look ‘perfect’ by the media. Slim, curvy, big boobs, small boobs, tall, short... the list could go on.
Ffs!
🙇🏼‍♀️
JUST FUCKING STOP IT!!!!

I loathe and detest this type of pressure on women. Just more wasted time, money and self-doubt that yet another aspect of our appearance doesn't measure up.

I'm never blame a women for doing it, that's a completely different argument. I do all sorts of nonsense to change my natural appearance. I just wish there was no pressure on us to do so Sad

SpilltheTea · 12/06/2020 18:09

I think inflated lips almost always look shit and ridiculous, but if it makes them happy, who cares?

Daisyxxchainxx · 12/06/2020 18:09

Personally I don't often think it looks brilliant on people. I don't particularly like picking at people for their appearance because I'm not perfect at all. I've recently watched a program and Katie price was a contestant. I just thought she looked dirty and her face just looked a mess. She had really black hair and eyebrows comma pouty mouth from having Botox

Daisyxxchainxx · 12/06/2020 18:13

My phone posted too soon. She had a really orange tan and she just looked mucky. And I just thought that she would look so much better if she toned it all down and was more natural. But I also understand that when people feel ugly or unattractive it is a confidence booster. I hate my nose, I'd rather forget about it than think about it if that makes sense. Occasionally though I have to see my side profile and it upsets me. I wish I could change it but I can't. unfortunately both of my parents have a pointy nose and I've ended up with a mixture of both and although nobody's ever teased me about it, I can see it in photos when people have took a picture from the side. I literally feel embarrassed if those pictures go on Facebook. I would be upset if people were laughing at my nose but it is who I am and I just don't see the point in changing it because it would cost a fortune for it start. That money could be spent on much more important things.

@MrsLipsome

For those saying you can always tell or that people with fillers have no cupid's bow - you're wrong, you've just seen bad work done. A skilled practitioner will be able to make lip fillers look natural.
I can tell the lips in this photo have been filled because the lip line of the top lip is over pronounced.
bloodyhellsbellsx · 12/06/2020 18:17

YABU to ‘feel sorry’ for women for doing what they want to their own bodies. They might think that you look ‘awful’ without fillers. Each to their own so take your judgey pants off and wind your neck in.

MrsLipsome · 12/06/2020 18:18

Well at least some of the “you can always tell” brigade are talking shite as I’ve never had lip fillers in my life and would run a mile if anyone came near my face with a needle (although thanks for confirming that I have freakish and unnatural lips 😄). I suspect people who think they can see “filler tache” wherever they go are actually seeing pregnancy related melasma in many cases including mine - it’s very common.

Ohdearfindingthisboringnow · 12/06/2020 18:20

Duck lips are not pretty.

It spoils people's faces and looks false. No idea why they have them done, especially the really big ones when they struggle to talk... add botox and ouch awful

Pliudev · 12/06/2020 18:20

The really sad thing is that women feel the need to do these things. Has anyone seen a man with inflated lips? Recently there's been a programme on tv in which a woman, once famous for her beauty, is trying to cling on to the same 'look' by having very obvious work done on her face. By comparison to the other women in the group who had aged naturally, she looked awful. I guess it's about insecurity isn't it?

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 12/06/2020 18:21

😆 sure, Jan.

supersop60 · 12/06/2020 18:35

Yes OP - I get you.
I feel sorry for women who feel that they 'have to look a certain way or they're not attractive. Many odd things have been done in the past in the name of beauty. this is no different and it will pass.
I saw a girl on a plane with such a massive pout that she couldn't close her mouth properly.
I wonder if girls/women think it makes them look like Jessica Rabbit?

Midsommar · 12/06/2020 18:47

I agree OP. Even a slight touch up of filler ends up looking trout-pouty! Not a good look.

doadeer · 12/06/2020 18:50

I think taking a zoomed in picture of your lips can make it look like you've had filler! I've just tried it

Somewhereinthesky · 12/06/2020 18:50

Personally I don't like it. But I don't think it's nice to feel sorry for them. It's a positive thing if they believe they are more attractive. And I am sure some people do find it attractive. Otherwise I don't think a lot of people are doing it.

Bertucci · 12/06/2020 18:51

Mrs Lipsome's pic is exactly what is wrong. Fake looking and horrible.

doadeer · 12/06/2020 18:51

MrsLipsome hasn't had any fillers! They are her lips!!

candilemon · 12/06/2020 18:53

I wouldn’t feel confident in their judgement, to be honest!

Bertucci · 12/06/2020 18:54

Sorry, sorry. I thought that was a stock photo as evidence, I'm not paying attention. In my defence, they do look filled as they have a ridge.

Todaywewilldobetter · 12/06/2020 18:59

I couldnt give a rat's arse. It's their face. Nice to see we don't judge, though.
God, women can be vile.

LaurieMarlow · 12/06/2020 19:03

Some women like the look. They don’t care what you think. HTH.

I’ve never had any work done, to be clear.

fairlyplump · 12/06/2020 19:09

Yep I agree, they are ridiculous.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/06/2020 19:10

@ThePriceIsNotRight

I’ve had them done. They’ve worn off now but I enjoyed them when I had them, and I may do it again. What mattered, and matters, to me, is that I like them. I don’t really care if anyone else does or not, and I’m not in need of sympathy.
Oh come on. You wouldn't spend that money if you lived alone in a cave.
