In a miserable, joyless world of queues and masks. A couple of friends have lost their jobs this week. Where are we going with this?When will it end?

YANBU, I feel the same. I have been on furlough since March. Every day is the same. Nothing to look forward to. I can't wait until this is over, I know it might be a long wait though.

The only thing that matters is keeping the R number down.

I don’t think we are going back to how things were. Lockdown was the biggest mistake, we’ll look back on this and think what the hell did we do.

I'm still out at work but even that is dull. I'm in a community based NHS job which is now office based phone calls 😫 someone said last week it's get up>go to work>eat>watch telly>go to bed

Are other countries banging on about the R? I was chatting to someone from Australia the other day who had no idea what I was on about and thinks we’re all mad.

I hate waking up. I get no pleasure looking after my daughter, I get no pleasure in working, I get no pleasure in my husband. I hate waking up and thinking how to fill the coming day. I'm done with shitty crafts and all the rest of it. Just done. For the first time ever, I wish I were single and without children so I could stay in bed all day and at least waste all this time honestly in the way I want to.

Just thinking to myself, this is like a bad dream. Next week we can go to Primark, or soon visit a zoo, but my year 7 and 11 children have been off school since end of March? They are going to estimate her GCSE results? What an effing mess.

It's quite relentless isn't it. I describe it as Groundhog Day.
I've been working from home (school admin) and feel incredibly lucky to still have a job. I'm back at work now schools are open but it's very boring as there are different repetitive jobs that weren't there before and very little interaction between groups of people.
Then I go straight home as there's nowhere else to go.

But, I've definitely found that focusing on a new skill has kept me from going mad in lockdown. I taught myself to crochet last year and that has been a godsend. There's something about doing a craft which involves concentration and repetitive movements that is good for the mind.
And we've been growing veg.

I'd definitely recommend attempting a new skill - nothing too onerous or expensive. It might give you a lift to have something different to focus on which we're still stuck at home.

A vaccine may never been found, society will have broken down long before then. Millions will be made redundant from August. Police, education, healthcare will all start having there funding cut as the economy crashes.

Personally I don’t find it too bad but I make sure I take exercise every day. We try to eat healthily and be a bit choosy over what we watch on TV. We have a regular bedtime and getting up time. No kids here though and we have a garden and no money worries. I can’t say I particularly miss anyone but would like to go to a pub or café.

YANBU. It's absolutely miserable and the fact that getting schools back seems completely unimportant to them is absolutely disgraceful.

Sheba I’m the most crafty person ever and I too am d o n e. w I t h. t h e. c r a f t s. Fun bloody zoom activities linked with school are taken very very seriously by all the middle class parents so I too end up having to take this stuff seriously or else my child feels like crap.

I’m sick of the competitive lockdown parenting, am sick of trying to entertain my preschooler whilst simultaneously home educate my year 2. His preschool had the very fabulous idea of sending home a sheet they want me to fill in to include with their report to send to his new school. I need to list all his home learning experiences, what new skills he has acquired etc etc. I’m guessing they don’t want to hear he can now get to level 4 on Red Ball, because that’s about it 😳

You left off "of Covid-19".

Dying of other things is totally fine. In fact, it's encouraged so that we can dedicate all of our efforts to dealing with this quite bad cold virus.

We are choosing to kill people who die from domestic violence, cancer, heart attack, stroke, dementia, dehydration, hunger, despair so that we can protect the people vulnerable to this quite bad cold.

I feel exactly the same. And all the idiots saying it will be like this until a vaccine is found, take a look at the bbc front page. The economy shrunk 20% in April.

At some point, perhaps even before we've found a vaccine, we will run out of money. We wont be able to fund the NHS or the police or schools.

Totally agree. I'm lucky...retired, dh still working. My pension has taken a massive hit but is recovering.
I miss spontaneity.....coffees, lunches meals out. Gigs, theatre, art and culture. Holidays, weekends away.
I hate this bloody government and their waffling and indecision.

Yes, I hear you. We've made everything you can think of out of egg boxes, toilet rolls, lollipop sticks and tissue paper and I'm sick of it all. If it helps, though, I'm very open in real life about how much I hate it and as soon as I say that yes, my kid is watching far too much TV, other mums rush forward to say the same thing. Some of them have even cried while they do. Including mums whose Facebook pages would have you believe very differently.

I know I'm lucky to have my health, a garden, a beautiful daughter, a loving relationship and that we both have jobs. I know I'm being supremely ungrateful. I know I have nothing to complain about. I don't care. It is absolutely shit and I take no pleasure in anything or anyone.

Unfortunately that is not the only bad thing that is happening here.

Agree with the poster who said it was like groundhog day. Numbers in Scotland are plummeting, 6 infections in my council area of 110,000 last week, half are in care homes. And given that most infectious people do the right thing and stay at home, I have something a 1 in 660,000 chance of coming across an infectious person in Waitrose.

Yet Nicola has us all hiding in the house, unable to see people inside.

Also totally agree that all the other health stuff like cancer, stroke, mental health is going to come back to bite us. the rates over the next few years are going to skyrocket.

Add to that the parental guilt of bringing them into this world in the first place and we have BINGO.
