To put the heating on?

Currently 6° in my house. Rain is coming down in buckets. I'm seriously thinking about sticking the heating on for a bit but it feels slightly ridiculous given that it's June and supposedly summer!

Same here, freezing.

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2020 11:17

Are you in the North East too? We have an Amber warning for rain. It honestly looks like winter outside!

Just do it. Keep warm. If you have lots of blankets - use those instead if you can't afford to pay next bill.

If you need the heating on - plus the blankets - and can't afford to pay all of your bill upfront, talk to your provider to agree a lower payment plan.

HellSmith · 11/06/2020 11:19

Just put it on if you’re cold. I always do otherwise you get colder as the day goes on, & the place can get damp without any heating. I actually couldn’t believe when SIL said that BIL doesn’t allow the heating on until September! It’s not like we have summer & winter anymore, one day it’s hot the next cold.

FedUpofLockdown123 · 11/06/2020 11:19

I've got mine on. It rained all day yesterday and a bit windy today. Plus i have an open window all day an night for the cats 🙄

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 11/06/2020 11:20

6 degrees? Blimey - I'd put the heating on.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 11/06/2020 11:20

I'm in the SW. Bloody freezing here too. I'm going to light a fire in a bit!

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/06/2020 11:20

If it is that cold, yes put it on.

lardass88 · 11/06/2020 11:20

In the south west here. Cold and raining. Seriously thinking about lighting the wood burner 🤔

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/06/2020 11:21

Do you have a big house?

timeforawine · 11/06/2020 11:21

Mine's on and and has been intermittently for about a week. I'm N Yorks

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/06/2020 11:22

Im in the sw and im not cold, mind you my house is small.

HellSmith · 11/06/2020 11:23

Oh & it’s not like SIL & BIL can’t afford to either, they retired at 50 & have lived very comfortably for the last 20+ years. Have a hot shower, or take a walk to keep warm too. I always seem to get cold if I have a day in.

GreyishDays · 11/06/2020 11:23

6? In your house? Ours comes on all year round when it drops below 19. I don’t care if it’s meant to be summer, if it’s cold it’s cold.

It can’t be actually six in your house?

lanthanum · 11/06/2020 11:23

You probably saved on heating in March when it was unseasonably warm. And it's actually not a bad idea to run heating occasionally in the summer so that you don't suddenly find it's not working in the autumn when you really need it.

MrsJBaptiste · 11/06/2020 11:23

I've just put the heating on. Sat here WFH getting colder and I need to get some washing dry.

I don't understand these people who proudly say their heating is now off as it's 'summer'. It's pouring down outside and about 12 degrees. I don't care if it's June or December, if it's cold then it's cold and I want to get warm!

VaniIIaSugarr · 11/06/2020 11:24

East Midlands. My heating has been on all week as well as the wood burner. The weather will warm up again next week so the cold spell is only for a few days more. Keep warm!

Kittykat93 · 11/06/2020 11:27

It's 6 degrees inside your house? What do you live in, a fucking igloo???? Yes put the heating on woman can't believe you're even asking!! ShockGrin

Crocky · 11/06/2020 11:30

I’m in the north west. It’s 20 degrees in my house and the heating hasn’t been on in months. How on earth is it so cold over there? Get that heating on 🥶🥶

PawPawNoodle · 11/06/2020 11:31

How is your home possibly 6°c inside unless you live in a draughty dark shack sharing the room with a block of ice? That's literally colder than outside any part of the UK today.

purpleme12 · 11/06/2020 11:31

Do you mean 16?

BarbaraofSeville · 11/06/2020 11:32

If it's cold, put the heating on FFS, the calendar means nothing in this country, look at the April and May we've had and the second it ticks over into June, it's back to cold and rainy Hmm.

We never turn our heating off, it's all on timers and thermostats and if it drops below the set temperature, the heating comes on whatever the date.

For the last few years, I remember that June and August can quite reliably be cold and wet, with much better weather earlier and later in the year.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 11/06/2020 11:34

South East - have been having the heating on for over a week! And it doesn’t seem to change for a while. 😔

DollyPartons · 11/06/2020 11:34

Yes do it, why shouldn't you 🤒Got to keep immune system up these days, let that be the reason

Slothsarecreepy · 11/06/2020 11:35

You want MN to give you permission to put the heating on? Put it on if you're cold.
