To put the heating on?

Currently 6° in my house. Rain is coming down in buckets. I'm seriously thinking about sticking the heating on for a bit but it feels slightly ridiculous given that it's June and supposedly summer!

Have had ours on for an hour - for the cats ..!

Jennyie1 · 11/06/2020 12:23

I dislike central heating. It makes the dog's shed more and I hate the stuffiness it creates. I prefer a ventilated house and wearing more clothes.

Open the window, let the warmer air circulate. I'm NW and it's 15°c outside.

InspectorCludo · 11/06/2020 12:25

I won’t do it!
I’m at home all day and I’m freezing but I won’t do it!
When my son naps I’m going to get into bed to warm up.
I refuse to put the heating on in June!

lyralalala · 11/06/2020 12:26

Mine is on. It comes on when it's cold. I don't care if it's July or December, if it's warm it stays off, if it's cold then it's on

Home42 · 11/06/2020 12:27

I’m in North Wales, fire is lit here!!

Oldraver · 11/06/2020 12:28

I'm in Oxfordshire and just put the heating on.

Bargainhuntbore · 11/06/2020 12:29

Its sometimes warmer outside than in my house.300 yr old cottage so nothing much i can do about that.

Id rather light the fire than use gas. I work in the kitchen with a jumper on.

Scarby9 · 11/06/2020 12:32

Heating has been on constant in the day time here for three days and I am still sitting here with a hot water bottle in my lap. Before Tuesday, no heating on for a month. It is definitely autumnal here.

Talia99 · 11/06/2020 12:36

Mine is on. I’m WFH with COVID and sitting in front of a laptop means I need it warmer than if I’m moving about. It’s currently 13 degrees and pouring with rain outside.

Talia99 · 11/06/2020 12:37

Sorry, I should have said - WFH because of COVID - I’m not sick.

MrsJBaptiste · 11/06/2020 12:37

@InspectorCludo See, I don't get this. You'd rather get into bed than put the heating on? Why be a martyr?

@Jennyie1 I'd be flooded out if I did that. It's absolutely hammering down. I've just had to nip out in the car to pick my prescription up and it was 10° according to the car.

Heating is on now and I've reset the thermometer which is now reading 14° rather than six so I think it might be a bit dodgy 😂😂😂

How is it 6 degrees ? honestly even in winter with no heat on my house doesn't drop below 13 degrees .
Ive put my heating on for a bit and it's 19 degrees in my house just put it in to 20 to warm the house up for a hour .

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2020 12:45

This day last year I was in Saltburn, in a beach hut I'd booked, feeling like I was slowly freezing. Was foggy and so cold.

The fish and chips were fantastic though 😂😂😂

To put the heating on?

Thecazelets · 11/06/2020 12:46

Just put ours on. 2 pairs of socks, leggings and a vest under my clothes and still freezing.

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2020 12:46

@imsooverthisdrama tbh I think the room thermometer was either in a draft or is just a bit crap. It came up to 14 after being reset which is probably more accurate!

Thermostat in our hall is reading 20 degrees.I'm sitting here in a t shirt and jeans.Outside looks sunny and breezy.
I'm in Scotland and haven't had heating on for a couple of months.
Think our house is well insulated.

Kittykat93 · 11/06/2020 13:02

Well 14 degrees is better than 6 Grin

MrsExpo · 11/06/2020 13:04

Just put ours on ... cold and wet here too (Midlands UK).

merryhouse · 11/06/2020 13:06

I never even think about the heating.

We have it set to be on from (erm - 6ish?) a bit before we get up until 10pm, with the thermostat set at 19 (used to be 17 but we suffered terribly with damp).

dottiedodah · 11/06/2020 13:06

Well we are on the South Coast and its freezing cold and wet. WTAF Heating on girl pronto!

Notcontent · 11/06/2020 13:06

I am in the SE so it’s not that cold but my house has zero insulation and I am wfh, just sitting at my desk, so have actually put the heating on. Only a week ago I was sitting in shorts and a vest top !

theonlywayisapple · 11/06/2020 13:07

Don’t understand people who’d rather freeze than turn the heating on because it’s the wrong month

Giganticshark · 11/06/2020 13:07

My house is 17 degrees and iv popped the heating on. Do you live in an old /draughty house? Any way you could insulate, put draught excludes in? Carpets?
