To put the heating on?

Currently 6° in my house. Rain is coming down in buckets. I'm seriously thinking about sticking the heating on for a bit but it feels slightly ridiculous given that it's June and supposedly summer!

I genuinely can’t get my head round people who set the heating according to the calendar rather than the temperature (assuming they can afford it of course). If DH had his way we’d do this, but he can’t explain why 14 degrees in December requires the heating, but 14 degrees in June, does not.

If a jumper isn't cutting it, then absolutely. I used to live with a friend nearly 20 years ago and she never put the heating on was miserable and cold. Unfortunately for her, she had to move out for a few months and I was no longer living with her. She had turned the heating off completely during the winter and the pipes froze and burst!

I have put the heating on a little recently. I also pulled out a throw to put over my bed. I had planned on no blanket until winter. Luckily the house is a warm one and as I am unlikely to afford new double glazing at any stage thanks to the pandemic my income is much reduced but I am just grateful my house is a modern one and fairly warm.

If you are cold then put it on. You don't need random people off the internet to tell you you can do it!

6 degrees Shock

My thermostat says it’s 19 in here.

PickAChew · 11/06/2020 14:40

Fortunately, the house feels warmer than I expected, @QuestionableMouse

The wind seems to be mostly hitting next door (semi). My bedroom is bitterly cold, though - badly insulated dormer, last renovated in the 70s and getting it full pelt.

Bargainhuntbore · 11/06/2020 14:41

@weepingwillow22 ive just been for a walk in the rain and thought a glass of port would be nice tonight in front of the fire.

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2020 14:46

@PickAChew the wind is bitter isn't it? There's nothing but fields behind my house and the wind just sweeps across.
