To put the heating on?

Currently 6° in my house. Rain is coming down in buckets. I'm seriously thinking about sticking the heating on for a bit but it feels slightly ridiculous given that it's June and supposedly summer!

Nope. 6° according to the room thermometer in the kitchen. Rest of the house is probably warmer tbh.

The wind is freezing and my house is old and yes, drafty 😂

No problem affording the heating (thank god) more disbelief that I have to put it on in June 😂

I refuse to put the heating on as trying to reduce the bills, but I'm wearing a LOT of clothes and thermal socks atm

Cheerybigbottom · 11/06/2020 11:39

My hands went a bit stiff when I was working on the laptop this morning so I put the heating on. Also surprised to do that in June but I'm just not productive in the cold.

If my house was 6c I'd probably hibernate.

Toilenstripes · 11/06/2020 11:39

I’ve got my gas fireplace on. It’s June ffs! And the first warm-ish day we have there will be a thread moaning about the ‘heat’ and they can’t wait to wear their woollens.

Mummiepig · 11/06/2020 11:40

6 Celsius? That’s the temperature of a fridge

Chesneyhawkes1 · 11/06/2020 11:40

Mines on! Bedfordshire. I feel cold today 🥶

pilates · 11/06/2020 11:42

Yes do it. You’re not spending going out so why not make yourself comfortable at home.

Howsrainbows · 11/06/2020 11:44

I've got my heating on, it's absolutely chucking it down outside more like November than June.

It's a horrible day get your heating whacked on!

Mrsjayy · 11/06/2020 11:46

I had mine on yesterday I was cold it's better here today, but do you yet points or something for not having your heating on if your cold your cold put it on.

QuestionableMouse · 11/06/2020 11:49

Ours comes on automatically if the temp falls below 17. I'm in Scotland the heating is never off.
I hate a cold house.

Kaathesnake · 11/06/2020 11:51

Ooh, glad it’s not just me, was under a couple of fleeces... with my feet in the dogs fur last night!!
Heating goes on if I’m too cold, no point in being uncomfortable!

Itsallgonewoowoo · 11/06/2020 11:52

Yep mines on, I'm wearing a coat and under a blanket too! My DD is in shorts and. T-Shirt, so it might just be me!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/06/2020 11:53

I've had mine on since last week. Currently sitting under a blanket with a cup of tea. What happened to summer?

DoubleDessertPlease · 11/06/2020 11:54

6 degrees celsius, indoors in summer? I’d not just put the heating on, I’d be googling insulation! What temp does it get to in winter?

Jocasta2018 · 11/06/2020 11:55

My heating is on a thermostat of 18c. I don't care what time of year it is, I refuse to be cold. I've not used it at all during March, April & May other than 1hr/day for hot water.
I'm also bundled up with lots of layers & a blanket on the sofa so feel very snug!

MooseBreath · 11/06/2020 11:56

Who cares about the date? The weather could be cold in July and boiling in January, but your home needs to keep you healthy and happy!

otterbaby · 11/06/2020 11:57

I'm in the North East and mine is on! Bloody miserable outside.

TheOrigBrave · 11/06/2020 12:00

I put mine on for about 20 mins yesterday. It was cold and damp and I don't like feeling cold and damp. Then I did some hardcore vacuuming and all was well again.

postyourlunch · 11/06/2020 12:01

I really don't think it can be 6 degrees inside your house?
My ancient, badly insulated house sometimes falls to 11/12 degrees in the winter, in Scotland.

Anyway. If you feel cold then put the heating on assuming you can afford it. I just put mine on to boost the temperature as the puppy just had a bath.

GreyishDays · 11/06/2020 12:01

I agree about insulation. Your house should retain some heat.

zukiecat · 11/06/2020 12:06

Just put your heating on!

Until July last year I lived in absolutely appalling conditions, I'd feel warm if it got to as high as 6 degrees. Usually the temperature was around 3 or 4, and a minus if it was colder outside, it was absolute hell.

Now my circumstances have changed for the better, new, smaller house, in receipt of PIP, so at the first hint of coldness my heating goes on, regardless of what the calendar says. I will never be so cold again! It was a miserable existence.

Lynda07 · 11/06/2020 12:07

I often have the heating on low in the summer. If it's chilly, it's chilly so why not? That is what the heating is for, being cold is horrible.

romany4 · 11/06/2020 12:09

I've had mine on 15 minutes here and there got the last couple of days.
I'm in West Yorkshire

Ginfordinner · 11/06/2020 12:10

I can never understand people who make themselves a martyr to cold weather because the calendar dictates what they should do rather than the temperature (finances permitting, of course).

In our house the heating comes on when the thermostat dips below 20 degrees regradless of the time of year.
