If someone didn't post anything about BLM

If someone you know didn't post anything on SM about BLM would you think that it was unreasonable or not?
I've recently had a disagreement about this but don't want to say just yet which person I am in the situation to get a clear picture.
So,

YABU - Yes it's completely unreasonable not to post about it

YANBU - No, not everything needs to be posted to social media

Not everyone is performative. 🤷‍♀️

No because posting on social media doesn’t have a major impact unless you have a large platform like celebrities. I’d rather they sign petitions, attend protests etc. (I’m BAME btw)

How odd. Why should everyone post it on their SM?

If you're sharing a petition then fine, social media is a good place.
However it is not necessary to document every thought and feeling on fakebook.

Some people like to keep their SM free of political and social issues. I wouldn't judge someone for not posting about it.

No, that is their perogative isn't it.
I suppose especially if they don't usually post a lot etc..
Also some people don't know what to say, how to express in the right way without offending or coming across wrong maybe

I haven't posted a thing about it and me posting something won't make the blindest bit of difference to anyone. I don't think it makes me a bad person. The same group of people on my FB have competitive caring and I find it irritating.

My SM is apolitical. I share small details of family life, photos and things for the benefit of friends and family. I don’t post about BLM or any other political issues, doesn’t mean I don’t care!

I posted nothing about it and don’t intend to. I do not believe it to be unreasonable. Many people are only posting it for likes - lots bloggers and insta famous nobodies posted the blackout Tuesday yet continued to post all over their stories. Nothing sincere there in my opinion.

I would estimate the majority of my fb friends haven’t posted anything but I know them well enough to know this doesn’t mean they don’t care. That’s just now they use fb.

I haven't posted on social media about this. I think anyone who says not posting about it means that they're clearly racist or whatever needs to sign themself up to the bloody Stasi and stop being ridiculous.
I don't put much about current affairs on my profile because I see it's usually utterly pointless, often divisive and clutters up Facebook with virtue signalling. Doesn't mean I haven't had discussions, thoughts, donated, changed my behaviour elsewhere. I just don't imagine anyone give much of a shit what I think and I don't want to feel under pressure to put everything I think on social media.

I don't really notice who isn't posting about it 🤷‍♀️ I haven't because I don't think I have anything unique to say and I'd rather there was more space for black voices right now than another middle-class white woman writing #BLM. If I speak about it, I want to be educated and add something meaningful, not just tick a social media box of 'posted a status update so am now absolved of any further action or thought'.

I have been following accounts and making a more conscious effort to listen. I don't consider myself a racist, however I have learned a lot of the issues stem from people who aren't racist not doing enough.

So for now. I listen and learn.

I didn't post anything as

1. I barely post anyway. I only have Facebook and post a few times a year
2. It's a bit of an echo chamber. My Facebook friends generally have similar views on things

I did however post on our work Facebook account (seen by clients).

People can choose how they use their SM. I'd say it's just as important to have real life conversations about black lives matter as SM ones.

I would guess from the way you worded your op that you are the person who didn't post anything on social media... I don't think everyone needs to post every last thought. You can be supportive in many ways without everyone having to know about it. I didn't go out and clap for the NHS once, but I did spend many weeks sewing scrubs and scrub bags, which literally no one apart from my long suffering husband knows about 🙂

Personal social media pages are just that- personal. It’s down to people what they chose to post, some people might not feel like posting anything performative but may still be signing petitions, donating money etc. For this reason alone I haven’t judged any of my friends who haven’t posted about it.

I'd be more concerned about the people who posted but didn't follow up with donations, signing petitions, writing to their MP etc.

I've been having lots of conversations with my children about what's going on, racism, why "black lives matter" is the slogan and "All lives matter" is inappropriate, Uk's role in the slave trade and the wider issue of the British Empire and colonisation and how we benefited off the backs of others even if our ancestors were working class.

I think that's more productive than a Facebook post.

I know some folk who refuse to put anything on their SM. I find it refreshing.

People don't all need to post about BLM on their social media. It's not compulsory and we live in a fairly free country where we can choose what to do. It doesn't mean you're racist if you don't wish to post about it.

Calling someone out on not posting about it is just dickish bandwagoning.

Pretty much this. I hven’t posted but am paying attention to what others have to say an considering my behaviour and the impact it has. I don’t feel like I have enough authority on the matter to contribute any original thoughts of much value and think there is the danger that if you just blindly share and copy, you aren’t actually taking the information in.

From what I've seen it's very easy to post something well meaning and cause huge offence. For that reason alone, I'm staying well away, although I have had some heated interesting face to face discussions, I'm not putting anything up where a real discussion can't take place.
