To be upset over chlorinated chicken and considering leaving the uk

Lovesgood · 05/06/2020 09:17

I know a lot of people saw this coming. Its really upsetting how the uk is now beginning to bow down to our new masters. Im seriously considering to leave the country as chlorinated chicken will only be the beginning. They will completely ruin our farmers and foodstandards. And once theyve done that, who knows what else the US will demand, only for the UK to just roll over... Im quite sad over this actually. Any suggestions as to where to go? Whats Ireland like?

Just posted here for traffic.

I just hope more people will become vegan ( and im not even vegan...yet but will consider it due to ops concerned).

Astrabees · 05/06/2020 10:50

Yes, I'm sure more people will move to a plant based diet.

cyclingmad · 05/06/2020 10:52

@Mumoblue

Well you suck it up and eat fruit and veg washed in chlorine, drink tap water and eat processed food so what's the issue

Tellmetruth4 · 05/06/2020 10:52

Didn’t a fuck ton of farmers vote for Brexit? A bit short sighted in their thinking weren’t they? First losing the people who pick the crops now this.

LastTrainEast · 05/06/2020 10:53

Good plan. Best of luck.

PhoneLock · 05/06/2020 10:53

Do Ireland allow non EU people to move there?

UK citizens do not need a visa or residency permit to live, work or study in Ireland. Nothing to do with the EU, the arrangement predates the UK joining the EU by about 50 years.

LastTrainEast · 05/06/2020 10:55

ilovesooty "It's 52% of those who voted" you think we should care about those who couldn't be arsed to vote?

SerendipityJane · 05/06/2020 10:55

It isn't 52% of the population. It's 52% of those who vote

A difference which makes no difference is no difference. And I notice how none of the Brexiteers ever pointed this out. And with an 80-seat majority under the banner "Get Brexit Done" I really can't see the House of Commons making a distinction either.

So get ready for the chlorine. After a while you won't notice. And people get sick all the time anyway. When did we start becoming such a bunch of whingers ?

Rayshine13 · 05/06/2020 10:57

If we let America do this( literally bully Boris over this) , they are going to do whatever they want. And everyone knows how the food standard in US is terrible. I think we should protest over this and not let this shit happen. We owe this to our farmers and children. I am with you OP but moving out of UK is not the solution.

Lovesgood · 05/06/2020 10:57

Why do people not get that going vegan is not going to help? This is not just about meat. It is all food. They grow GMO crops and use chemicals and pesticides currently not allowed in the uk, on VEGETABLES, FRUIT AND GRAINS. So no, its not that easy to avoid this crap.

If they change the country of origin label, how are you supposed to know where it comes from? What it is? There must be a way as politicians voted for this shit and Im sure they arent going to eat this crap!

@SerendipityJane

I'd ask when we became such a bunch of doormats who just put up with whatever shit the government flings in our direction.

It's not whinging to want better.

CoronelSuarez · 05/06/2020 10:59

No but going plant based would mean leave these poor animals the fuck alone.

Agree. Its about bloody time to stand up, this government is a disgrace and has been for a long time.

If we let America do this( literally bully Boris over this) , they are going to do whatever they want.

If ? It's already happened. Nothing is going to stop Boris now - he has that 80-seat majority we kindly gave him last year. And "Getting Brexit Done" was the sole manifesto pledge you will ever see honoured.

I'm no historian, but maybe someone brighter than me can remember the last time any government failed to pass manifesto legislation with a majority of 80 ?

Done deal and all that. If you don't like it, you shouldn't have voted for it.

I'm particularly impressed by the clauses being drafted that allow the US further vetos on UK legislation if they don't like it. Much cheaper than having to go to court every month. Class. Goes to show what you can do when you have competent negotiators on the job. Not sure why the UK didn't think of that. Looks so obvious in hindsight.

QuentinWinters · 05/06/2020 11:04

The EU doesn't need to chlorinate chicken because it mandates higher standards throughout the food chain - better quality of life for the chickens, more humane slaughtering, better health measures for production workers.

Americans have higher levels of salmonella and campylobacter poisoning even with the chlorination.

Theres also the beef cows being fed on growth hormones so they grow faster and can be slaughtered earlier. Those hormones stay in the meat and could impact humans eating it.

It's totally unnecessary for us to accept this, what's more the government promised this wouldn't happen. I'm raging. I already eat high quality meat, because I can afford to, but I want to see people who can't afford it being protected from risks of low standard food too.

SerendipityJane · 05/06/2020 11:11

Necessity doesn't really come into it. With "Boris and the 80" it's what you are getting. Now would probably be a really good time to practice mindfulness. Don't invest emotional energy into things you can't change.

QuentinWinters · 05/06/2020 11:12

I'm not going to just lie down and suck up the shit this government impose on us, especially when its something they promised not to do. Otherwise we might as well go back to feudalism.

SockYarn · 05/06/2020 11:13

Leaving the country over a product which nobody's going to force you to buy.

Seems reasonable.

highmarkingsnowbile · 05/06/2020 11:14

If I had a pound for every time someone says they are leaving the country because of chicken, Brexit, tories I'd be a billionaire living on this island on my own.

This.

SerendipityJane · 05/06/2020 11:14

I'm not going to just lie down and suck up the shit this government impose on us, especially when its something they promised not to do.

Be curious to know your plan for stopping it ? General election ? Referendum ? Voodoo ?

Mumoblue · 05/06/2020 11:14

If you don't like it you shouldn't have voted for it

I did not vote for any of these spam-faced morons. I just dont find "Shut up and eat your chlorine" a compelling argument.

Moonmelodies · 05/06/2020 11:17

No but going plant based would mean leave these poor animals the fuck alone
Or, more likely if they're not wanted, executed.

highmarkingsnowbile · 05/06/2020 11:17

Jamie Oliver was going to leave the country if Brexit passed. I still live in hope.

recycledteenager24 · 05/06/2020 11:20

stop talking about leaving just do it if you dislike our country so much.

Reason for Emigration: Dislike of Chlorinated Chicken

Not sure the country of your choice will be willing to accept you!
