To be absolutely fucking livid

tinkywinkyshandbag · 02/06/2020 12:16

I'm just feeling so pissed off with the British public right now. Seeing the news stories of people crammed onto beaches, stuck in traffic jams, stupid bloody tombstoners, people queuing for 3 hours plus to get into Ikea, nobody wearing masks, tourists crapping in hedges and leaving all their rubbish behind in my beautiful village - what is wrong with people?!

I realise that Coronavirus may not be as dangerous as it first appeared but it is still here, it's still killing 100's of people a day, it's still bad news for anyone overwight, over 50 or with underlying health conditions.

All these people behaving as if it's "gone away". It hasn't!

I'm livid that the government acted too little too late. We didn't close our borders, we haven't got a proper track and trace in place. We look like idiots. Now they are saying oh it's fine to have BBQ's but bring your own ketchup - for goodness sake!

I do think lockdown should be tentatively eased - as a self employed person I've been happy to start to go back to work but I'm being so so careful with hygiene and social distancing. Baby steps. I also do think people should be able to go out for a walk or see relatives so long as social distancing. But there seems to be a general mood of oh it's fine we can all just go back to normal - in fact worse than normal, let's all crowd together and have a big old party!

I'm afraid there will be a second wave due to all this irresponsible behaviour and that we will need to go back to full lockdown, putting businesses and people's health in jeopardy. I'm worried that my daughter won't be able to start uni in September. I'm worried that my neices who are doctors will have to deal with the fall out from all this. I'm worried my husband will be unable to get another job. I'm scared and depressed.

And all these fuckers ignoring social distancing are just taking risks with their own lives and everybody elses - when they visit a beach resort or other tourist place they use the toilets, use the cashpoints, visit the supermarkets or corner shop - all prime places to spread the virus far and wide.

I just don't think the message to be careful has been hammered home hard enough.

If you spend 3 hours queuing to get into Ikea , you deserve all you get.

hfrdgftcsdg · 02/06/2020 12:51

Get a life. Corona virus exists in my World too but I’m not in the slightest bit “livid”.

It’s not what happens to you that’s important but how you deal with it.

I’m out there enjoying the weather, enjoying the more relaxed pace of life. Enjoying the beach even!!!!!

Stop reading the news and bothering about politics and what everyone else is doing and live your life well.

Putapeonyinyourpocket · 02/06/2020 12:52

Seaside town here, I hear you loud and clear. The unfortunate washing up of a forty foot whale attracted many visitors clearly not from here. Police, council and private security companies needed for crowd dispersal.

Buryit · 02/06/2020 12:52

I have only seen examples of what you are saying online. The pictures of the crammed beaches are awful but I think the exception rather than the rule. In my suburb of a large city it's very quiet and people are still queuing nicely and socially distancing as much as ever. People are taking very tentative steps forward like driving to a park slightly further away, or going to the supermarket twice a week instead of once. No bbqs with visitors taking place around here.

Star81 · 02/06/2020 12:52

Surely though you have to blame the people, everyone is responsible for listening and doing as told. I don’t think it’s really that hard to follow. People need to be responsible for themselves and listen and follow advice no matter which government is giving it out.

Jaxhog · 02/06/2020 12:53

I'd love to let other people do what they like. I'd like to do it myself. BUT, I'm vulnerable and am affected by the actions of everyone else if it means the virus is around more and for longer. So, yes it bothers me too that their freedom means longer lockdown misery for me.

It's funny how so many people are moaning about THEIR liberty and freedom to what they like. They forget that for some of us, this is a deadly threat. But, hey, as long as they can go to the beach and the pub, who cares! Not them, obviously.

BillywilliamV · 02/06/2020 12:54

You do realise that the overwhelming majority of people are not behaving as you describe.

Eckhart · 02/06/2020 12:54

People always break laws. It's always wrong. In this instance it's dangerous.

I agree with your point, OP, but busting a blood vessel won't help you or anybody else. Stay away from the public as much as you can, and just check the news once a day. To save your blood pressure.

YouJustDoYou · 02/06/2020 12:56

I live on the coast. They drive an hour and a half to get to the beach, no parking, so have been parking just anywhere they fucking please causing bottlenecks and in some cases absolute standstill. On the pathways I've heard "just shit in the hedge", one guy held his towel up.for his gf to change her used tampon WHICH SHE THEN LEFT ON THE SAND, accents definitely out of county, stupid fucking idiot teenagers and youth in massive groups chucking glass and used shit and pissing in hedges everywhere, chavvy fuckers sleeping in groups in tents on the seafront throwing their beer cans everywhere and spitting and swearing at the council workers, had enough of them. One fucking idiot broke his back leaping from the cliff into the sea for funzies, second time in two days police and ambulance had to be called.for these fucktards. Wish they'd all just fuck off back to where they've come from.

Lunar567 · 02/06/2020 12:57

What is the problem with people queueing to get to IKEA? They queue 2 m apart.

PenguinIce · 02/06/2020 12:59

It does seem stupid that most kids are still not back to school, lots of people not working but cramming into a beach is fine! Think some people would mix less if they went back to work.

Lunar567 · 02/06/2020 12:59

I think it is appalling that councils shut toilets. What is the risk? People wash their hands. People still come to beaches. Toilets should be opened. And car parks.

Casschops · 02/06/2020 13:00

It is merely the village you live in. I live in a village that is popular with walkers but really? Im lucky to have access to all this space. I live in a tiny house with no garden made bearable by the fact that I am in this area. Totally don't blame people for visiting I totally would.

DominaShantotto · 02/06/2020 13:00

I think you're blowing things out of proportion and need to worry about your blood pressure OP.

People are ALLOWED to go to Ikea. People are ALLOWED to go to the park. People are ALLOWED to go to the beach. You might not like that but it's the truth.

Same as you're ALLOWED to sit inside your house and be unhappy.

And since the gist of your post is that you're worried that this will all stop YOUR family being able to go out and fulfil plans... you're really no less selfish than the people you're condemning.

Eckhart · 02/06/2020 13:01

Beach near me is fine. It's one of the most popular in the country, and people are largely behaving themselves.

Allhallowseve · 02/06/2020 13:02

@emilybrontescorsett
"If you spend 3 hours queuing to get into Ikea , you deserve all you get."
Nice. Is this what we have become ? So critical of everyone else that we are now wishing bad things to happen to innocent people.

There is actually nothing wrong with what those people are doing it is their choice . This is a new virus and we are now easing out of our first ever lockdown . I'm not sure how so many mumsnet posters have such a brilliant insight into what is going to happen in the coming weeks .
Media coverage and scaremongering has a lot to answer for.
Spending your time being angry and criticising everyone else is not a healthy mid frame to be in.

thepeopleversuswork · 02/06/2020 13:03

I understand your fear and frustration.

But I think you are misdirecting your anger.

The government has shown a total lack of leadership here and the messages it has sent out are utterly confusing (and that's without getting into the discussion about Dominic Cummings). I think people have no faith in the public guidance.

I think you also need to remember that people's ability to endure the quarantine has a shelf life. People have been in near total isolation for the best part of three months, with all the emotional and financial hardship that goes with that. Some people have coped more or less OK, others are at near breaking point and feel their sanity is now a greater priority than a virus which is definitely a diminished risk -- albeit still a risk.

In a vacuum of leadership people have started to make their own risk assessments. I think a lot of people are not making the right calls and I'm not saying they are right but I don't entirely blame people.

Greysparkles · 02/06/2020 13:04

Yet millions have died around the world

They really haven't though, worldometers currently states 378k.

It's hysterical nonsense posted like this that just makes people switch off

Lunar567 · 02/06/2020 13:04

Lots of students lost their jobs. Many universities cancelled 1st year exams, many students had no tuition for 3rd term but still paid tuition fees. They have plenty of time to socialise now. I don't blame them.

BestOption · 02/06/2020 13:04

@Noextremes2017

There are a lot of people taking the piss on the furlough scheme. They won't look so smart in a few months when it is revealed to be the Redundancy Waiting Room.
What?

I'm furloughed.

I cannot work. I work with children In schools (but not for A particular school).

I didn't choose to be furloughed, the business might not survive this & I may be made redundant

Could you please explain to me, how I am taking the piss.

Or for that matter my niece, living in London working two jobs -an office job in a closed sector and a second job in a pub. She's furloughed from both. How is she taking the piss?

Or pretty much everyone else furloughed? It's not like they chose it?

Some employers are taking the piss - but employees ?!?!

ShirleyB25 · 02/06/2020 13:05

In 4 months from now it will be normal for everyone to wear a mask.

The government will have to make it mandatory.

This will happen, so perhaps get used to the idea now.

fassbendersmistress · 02/06/2020 13:06

There is going to be a second wave. Of course there is. But not because people are shopping in supermarkets or tombstoning. It will happen because that was ALWAYS going to be the case.

Lockdown was not intended to bring COVID 19 to its knees. It was to give the nhs a chance to cope. And it has coped. And it will be ready to cope again. It’s no picnic for nhs workers of course, but we are stuck with the system we’ve got and the amazing workers will once again do their but.

The vast majority of people who get the virus will bear it well and will recover.

I couldn’t get angry about shoppers or day-trippers or bbq-ers, but I can get angry about the kids trapped at home with their abusers, the families going hungry, the people whose metal health problems are escalating untreated, the already broken economy....Ie. real human problems!!

Newjez · 02/06/2020 13:06

Natural selection in action.

TeddyBeans · 02/06/2020 13:06

I think it depends on what the media want us to see. I live by the sea and a city near me has been in the papers for its beach crowds. 20 miles down the road where I live it's largely deserted but that doesn't make a good story.

The vast majority of people are following lockdown rules, it's the minority that aren't that are getting all the attention because nothing gets people up in arms more than other people breaking rules 🤨

As long as you're still following the rules, who cares? Them putting themselves more at risk is their choice. You do you and let them do them 🤷‍♀️

UnderTheBus · 02/06/2020 13:08

It's honestly like nothing ever happened where I am, just back to normal completely
Apart from shops, cinemas, parks, cafes, pubs, restaurants, tourist attractions, hairdressers, gyms, swimming pools, airports, car parks, public toilets, play areas, stadia, music venues, churches, the majority of shops...
