To be absolutely fucking livid

I'm just feeling so pissed off with the British public right now. Seeing the news stories of people crammed onto beaches, stuck in traffic jams, stupid bloody tombstoners, people queuing for 3 hours plus to get into Ikea, nobody wearing masks, tourists crapping in hedges and leaving all their rubbish behind in my beautiful village - what is wrong with people?!

I realise that Coronavirus may not be as dangerous as it first appeared but it is still here, it's still killing 100's of people a day, it's still bad news for anyone overwight, over 50 or with underlying health conditions.

All these people behaving as if it's "gone away". It hasn't!

I'm livid that the government acted too little too late. We didn't close our borders, we haven't got a proper track and trace in place. We look like idiots. Now they are saying oh it's fine to have BBQ's but bring your own ketchup - for goodness sake!

I do think lockdown should be tentatively eased - as a self employed person I've been happy to start to go back to work but I'm being so so careful with hygiene and social distancing. Baby steps. I also do think people should be able to go out for a walk or see relatives so long as social distancing. But there seems to be a general mood of oh it's fine we can all just go back to normal - in fact worse than normal, let's all crowd together and have a big old party!

I'm afraid there will be a second wave due to all this irresponsible behaviour and that we will need to go back to full lockdown, putting businesses and people's health in jeopardy. I'm worried that my daughter won't be able to start uni in September. I'm worried that my neices who are doctors will have to deal with the fall out from all this. I'm worried my husband will be unable to get another job. I'm scared and depressed.

And all these fuckers ignoring social distancing are just taking risks with their own lives and everybody elses - when they visit a beach resort or other tourist place they use the toilets, use the cashpoints, visit the supermarkets or corner shop - all prime places to spread the virus far and wide.

I just don't think the message to be careful has been hammered home hard enough.

I agree, its live living in a bad novel.

Lazypuppy · 02/06/2020 14:44

Life has to start going back to some sort of normal.

amusedtodeath1 · 02/06/2020 14:48

Well, I'm in a place where we still have high numbers of cases. We are not really through the worst yet. It's likely we will have a second peak, although everything is in place to deal with it this time.

What really bothers me about this thread is the constant battle between the people who believe this is all over and those who are still concerned. It's not even the tediousness of this argument (which, for the record, is just opinion, no one knows what will happen), it's the nastiness I hate. Please stop making people feel worse by telling them they are idiots for having concerns. You disagree, fine, but please back up your arguments with facts rather than sneering.

Thinkingabout1t · 02/06/2020 14:54

People can do their own risk assessment.

Yes, but the risks they take put other people at risk. Their selfishness can harm the rest of us.

cdtaylornats · 02/06/2020 14:54

Where following science is great, following economics is also a necessity.

People don't understand what scientists mean a lot of the time - yesterday a head teacher in England said he wasn't reopening until he was told the chance of a child catching it was zero. He didn't understand that if he asked a scientist what the chances of catching bubonic plague was he wouldn't be told zero.

lovesT · 02/06/2020 14:56

@Psychoseverywhere just wanted to point out that saying "millions have died" is not a helpful "nugget of information" as it is inaccurate. Yes, many people have died and it's awful - but not millions. Let's stop the spread of false information. 👍

To be absolutely fucking livid
saraclara · 02/06/2020 14:58

The people complaining about hordes on the beaches, were you actually there to see then? In which case you're part of the problem.
Or are you relying on photos in the media, carefully chosen and angled to look as bad as possible?

My friend lives in a flat which overlooks one of the most popular town beaches in the country. She says that though it's popular, people are spaced very well and it'ss not been a problem at all. Yet photos of that exact beach in the media make it look like there's no social distancing at all.

My friend was actually pretty paranoid about this whole virus thing, so if anyone was going to lose their rag about overcrowding or bad behaviour, I'd have thought it'd be her. So if she's saying that people are social distancing on 'her' beach, I'll believe her and not the news media photos.

Psychoseverywhere · 02/06/2020 14:58

@lovesT and I just want to point out that in this thread I have actually corrected myself now three times.

Psychoseverywhere · 02/06/2020 14:59

@saraclara I live a stones throw from the beach so not part of the problem at all. It is people driving to the beach that are the problem.

Emmapeeler1 · 02/06/2020 15:02

Lots of public blaming here = just what Boris wanted.

OP your OP would be much better in a letter to your MP.

pfrench · 02/06/2020 15:04

I wonder what the socioeconomic breakdown of offenders would look like? Would be interesting to see what groups are behaving like this and why.

Why would that be interesting? Who do you think it is?

Allflightscancelled · 02/06/2020 15:04

@saraclara I agree. Our town beach is often heaving in good weather and although it's getting a bit busier now people are largely staying apart. TBF people have stayed locked up long enough. And it isn't wrong of the government to be starting to think about restarting the economy. It's actually their duty. My DH was furloughed, has now been put on notice of redundancy and things are only going to snowball for the rest of the country from here onwards.

lynsey91 · 02/06/2020 15:05

Well I wasn't keen on the majority of people long before the virus and I am even less keen now.

Why the hell would anyone queue for 3 hours to go into Ikea? What could you possibly need that urgently? Sorry but to me they are complete and utter morons.

The same for all the people queueing for McDonalds and KFC crap and then, which makes it worse, throwing their wrappers, bags etc on the road, street etc.

DH is driving around for work and says that apart from all the traffic back on the roads he is disgusted by all the rubbish thrown everywhere.

Sometimes I hate humans.

To be honest if any of the idiots who have crowded onto beaches, into parks etc get the virus I would have zero sympathy. The population definitely needs reducing and far fewer idiots would be great

pfrench · 02/06/2020 15:05

I live a stones throw from the beach so not part of the problem at all. It is people driving to the beach that are the problem.

Not your private beach. Why do you get to keep it to yourself? Government have told people they are allowed to drive to the beach.

Write to your MP or council about sorting out rubbish collection and toilet opening. People are people - this happens all the time, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Least of all rubbish collectors and MPs.

MarginalGain · 02/06/2020 15:06

What a scandal. Some of the 99% of the population to whom coronavirus poses very little threat decide to say fuck it and go to the beach after being housebound for ten weeks (probably some of the other 1% too).

What a bunch of selfish fuckers, they should be happy to stay home for 20 weeks or 40 or 80 or however long it takes to make you feel safe, OP.

Lazypuppy · 02/06/2020 15:07

@Psychoseverywhere we're allowed to drive to beaches

QuestionMarkNow · 02/06/2020 15:08

YABU because people are following the guidelines from the government and that's what they are told is OK to do. There would have been the same amount of people on the beach normally with the beautiful weather we've had.

You would NBU to be angry against the governement. That's a different issue. But tbh I think this government as shown its incompetency for months now. It is also still completely concentrating on 'getting brexit done' wo a thougth about the fact that covid has changed everything.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/06/2020 15:10

I live a stones throw from the beach so not part of the problem at all. It is people driving to the beach that are the problem.

But you are on the beach, so in the OPs eyes, you are part of the problem.

Psychoseverywhere · 02/06/2020 15:10

@pfrench @Lazypuppy I actually apologise cos I am in fact not in the UK at all but in Ireland where you cant so sorry for that. Forgot where I was posting :)

QuestionMarkNow · 02/06/2020 15:13

Fwiw, all the blame put nto PEOPLE rather than the government, you d realise that t's exactely what BJ wanted to do when they change the slogan? To ensure that the responsibility is anyone but the government?

Worrying to see how many people have played in the hands of the government and don't even realise it.
But please carry on. Put the blame on your neighbourg/people 'from further away', people who go shopping (when they have been told they can), people who queue (one of the great british pastime) etc...
Amd forget very carefullu to remember WHO told them it was OK to do that.
Because BEFORE BJ said that shops would be open blablabla, the vast majority ((0% if I remember well) have been following the lockdown guideliens (bar D Cummins of course)

ssd · 02/06/2020 15:15

I feel the same. I'm currently watching my adults young sons go mad with boredom, very very rarely seeing friends or girlfriends, totally sticking to the rules, all around us are adults doing what the fuck they want. I can sort of see teenagers misbehaving, doesn't make it right, but round here it's the over 35s breaking the rules, meeting up in groups, staying with partners overnight.. Am in Scotland and that's against our guidelines.
Am mighty pissed off.

peaceanddove · 02/06/2020 15:15

The government isn't genuinely worried about a 2nd or even third wave because these waves are still only going to be dangerous to a tiny, frail percent of the population. And this percentage is entirely dispensible Sad

People insisting that Boris and his government are stupid buffoons are so very wrong. These are very very clever and devious people who have been superbly educated. They have deliberately been vague about guidelines because they know that people over stepping guidelines and boundaries simply isn't going to be dangerous for the vast majority of the population. In fact it will be hugely beneficial because it will more quickly lead to herd immunity and kick starting the economy. The government actively want people to mingle and overstep the boundaries but they can't be seen to want that for obvious reasons.

MorrisZapp · 02/06/2020 15:17

Presumably the reason the queue for Ikea takes three hours is because of social distancing. So what's the problem? I personally wouldn't queue that long at Ikea but if others choose to then its none of my business is it. I'm sure Ikea are trading within the government guidelines.

Kljnmw3459 · 02/06/2020 15:19

I'm ok with people going out and about and getting on with their lives as long as most try to maintain social distancing as much as possible and obviously washing their hands. I'm conflicted about whether the masks are of any use but I guess at least they're a reminder that we're not out of the woods yet.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/06/2020 15:24

Bottom line is, the first few weeks of the so called lockdown were needed as the NHS is totally screwed and would more than likely have been overwhelmed and collapsed.

If the chances of that happening now are slim (and they will know), all of this effort is no longer needed. Johnson isn't going to suddenly come out and say "sombrero squashed, have at it you lot", it wouldn't particularly look very good on him after tanking the economy, mass unemployment around the corner and a recession that will make 2008 look like happy hour.
