To ask, what's the highest priced item in your weekly shop?

I'm always interested to see what was the highest priced item in my food shop.

Usually it is processed/pre-made which tops the list. Or cleaning items like laundry products; I've started to buy dish washer tabs monthly via Amazon.

This shop it was a bucket of Linda McCartney southern fried chicken- £5.

Or it could be the two boxes of cat food, £8 total on a multi-buy. £4 each instead of £5.

Ingredient-type items seem cheap as chips in comparison.

What is your highest priced item?

Washing powder or dishwashing tablets is usually my biggest buy and then I try and get them on offer.

Last shop it was a four pack apple juice for £3.

pastaparadise · 01/06/2020 22:05

£6 on a massive tub of peanut butter
Dishwasher tabs
£10 on beer.

Noticed lots of prices creeping up...

Ireolu · 01/06/2020 22:08

Seabass - £20 (12 fillets)
Fresh king prawns - £20

From my fish monger today.

Notso · 01/06/2020 22:09

This week blueberries and raspberries from M&S, £5 a pack.

TurquoiseDress · 01/06/2020 22:16

Wine! 🍷

BooseysMom · 01/06/2020 22:19

Mine is always wine at £6 max.

Gingerkittykat · 01/06/2020 22:26

This week was suncream at £6, most expensive food item was diced beef at £4. More expensive items would be high boxes of cat food, large jars of coffee and a case of Pepsi max on an irregular basis.

mogloveseggs · 01/06/2020 22:28

Pair of slippers this week

grapesofbath · 01/06/2020 23:07

Cat food - £9
Hair dye - £8
Chicken breasts - £10

I'm still Shock at the person who buys £12 cat litter! Ours is the crappy £1.50 stuff.

BlingLoving · 01/06/2020 23:08

Usually wine! Or cleaning products. But also fish - cod as £11 last week. We don't eat a lot of meat and what we do tends to be cheaper like mice etc. But High quality free range chicken is at least £9. We have steak about once a month and that's easily £10. Ditto lamb chops.

I don't do roasts very often but when I do it's expensive...

dollybird76 · 02/06/2020 07:29

I think mine was a salmon steak as a treat this week! Usually it's cat litter though.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 02/06/2020 10:47

I don't drink and dh buys his beer online so no booze included. I try to rotate our expensive items through the month so
Week1 - pay day - meat for the month, stock freezer and tins
Week 2 - toiletries
Week 3 - cleaning products
Week 4 - nappies, nappy sacks etc
Every week we have the usual fresh fruit, veg, bread, milk, cheese etc

HaudMaDug · 02/06/2020 12:03

Roughly every 10 days between each shop for me (since long before lockdown) but my most expensive items are the 20 large grapefruits at £12. (Breakfast for 10 days)
Once in a blue moon I'll splash out on a fillet steak usually about £8.00

Nevertouchakoala · 02/06/2020 14:27

veuve clicquot- £35

Aretheystillasleepbob · 02/06/2020 14:34

An organic chicken £12. But if we buy booze it’s usually wine at sprouts £16/18 a bottle or gin (. £30)

WwMILd · 02/06/2020 14:35

£46 bottle of monkey gin, but only put it in trolley to book slot, let’s hope I get round to cancelling😂
Usually smoked salmon, but this week some reblechon at £5.18.

Lollypop4 · 02/06/2020 14:38

cat food 2x boxes at £4 each
Chicken breast at £9 a tray
Beer £15 box

MashedPotatoBrainz · 02/06/2020 14:41

All the cats pushing up our shopping bills, we're being taken for mugs aren't we.

TooGood2BeTrue · 02/06/2020 14:42

Wine
Organic chicken and meat
Strawberries
Washing detergent
Toilet paper

MikeEhrmantraut · 02/06/2020 14:45

Usually nappies, laundry detergent and beer or wine. We don't have a roast every Sunday as I'm stingy but I also like to do it properly, so every 2-3 weeks it tends to be the Sunday joint of meat.

rosiejaune · 02/06/2020 14:55

1 ltr organic olive oil, £7.99. But we don't buy it very often; it lasts weeks.

Proudboomer · 02/06/2020 14:56

I have put my cats back on tinned food as it works out cheaper and you can recycle the tins.
When they were on packets one box of 12 would last 2 days costing a minimum of £3 for Felix. Three cats eating 2 packs each a day. Now a 12 pack of butchers choice last 6 days and cost around £6.
Saving £3 per week = £156 per year

BillywigSting · 02/06/2020 15:01

Either coffee, cheese or meat if not buying alcohol.

Weeks where we don't buy much /any meat because we have enough frozen are significantly cheaper.

Tend to buy cleaning stuff in bulk so not really part of the regular weekly shop.

ohtheholidays · 02/06/2020 15:03

Fresh meat,so either a leg of lamb or some rump steaks £11-£14.

Clutterbugsmum · 02/06/2020 15:08

My DH coffee it's about £7 per jar and he seems to be going through one every couple of weeks.
