To ask, what's the highest priced item in your weekly shop?

I'm always interested to see what was the highest priced item in my food shop.

Usually it is processed/pre-made which tops the list. Or cleaning items like laundry products; I've started to buy dish washer tabs monthly via Amazon.

This shop it was a bucket of Linda McCartney southern fried chicken- £5.

Or it could be the two boxes of cat food, £8 total on a multi-buy. £4 each instead of £5.

Ingredient-type items seem cheap as chips in comparison.

What is your highest priced item?

Wine

All my household items get purchased separately so for me it’s generally a good cut of meat. We tend to have one really good one a week.

Hotcuppatea · 01/06/2020 20:39

I usually get a half side of salmon every week. Tends to be around £6.

Apirateslifeforme · 01/06/2020 20:42

Persil. It's always persil

Socksontheradiatoragain · 01/06/2020 20:43

DH razors usually (not weekly though) We also buy the big boxes of laundry powder so that bumps it up a bit.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 01/06/2020 20:44

Marsala £11.99. A one-off though, will last for ages.

Sgtmajormummy · 01/06/2020 21:03

Meat.
A free range chicken that did one meal (sorry MN) was €6+.
Like OP I like to glance through my receipt, but I look at the VAT percentage.
It certainly puts you off buying ready prepared when the individual ingredients are in a lower category. Basic foodstuffs are 4% here in Italy while luxury is 20 or maybe 22%. Another chunk that goes straight into the government coffers.
Toothpaste is in the luxury category. I would have thought it was a pretty essential product...

rosiethehen · 01/06/2020 21:28

Washing powder probably.

SistemaAddict · 01/06/2020 21:28

Loo rolls. £7.50. I've noticed they have gone up in price since lockdown. I'm building up the Second Wave/Brexit stash.
After loo roll the next single item with the highest price is ice cream at £2.20 but butter is my biggest spend as I buy several blocks each week. Then fruit. The price of fruit really annoys me.

Milk - lacto free and soya only in this house. £1.40 plus for a carton. We go through 7 plus a week ...! Crazy amount of money to spend on milk!
(Although have just found that also do lacto free for 85p ... winner!)

Bonzabaybee · 01/06/2020 21:38

Usually the iberico ham and truffle oil, bbs.

WinterBerry7 · 01/06/2020 21:43

This week it’s probably wine or the combined cost of stocking up on Asda’s craft beer offers

stophuggingme · 01/06/2020 21:46

Gin
Cat litter

TheClitterati · 01/06/2020 21:50

This week it was a croquet set and a badminton set - £10 each -lidl.

TheClitterati · 01/06/2020 21:51

Normally it would be a free range chicken or rib eye steak

Ginandbearit1 · 01/06/2020 21:52

Gin. But it works out good value as a bottle lasts a few weeks maybe

Hagisonthehill · 01/06/2020 21:57

Very large bottle of gin as it was cheaper per litre, normally the same but I noticed a difference this time.

Fromthebirdsnest · 01/06/2020 21:58

We buy online more than from supermarkets ,we buy.a lot of dates usually 1kg boxes and they tend to be expensive , nuts again expensive , nutritional yeast we buy in bulk and we buy 2.5kg of vegan cheese at a time a nd a kilo of vegan parmesan together that's about £40 I buy a lot of cleaning products in bulk online as I buy natural things and we buy a couple of large fruit & veg boxes so don't really have a lot to buy from supermarkets , beyond burgers are a lot when you.need to buy enough for 5! Also I'm ceoliac and that is ridiculously expensive for nicer things, decent pasta is usually £4 for 400/500g 😱 supermarkets are.cheaper but nowhere near as nice x

CherryPavlova · 01/06/2020 21:58

Wine or Gin.

YakkityYakYakYak · 01/06/2020 22:00

Usually wine but didn’t get any this week. This week it was an £8 bottle of shampoo which is way more than I would usually spend so hope it’s nice!

WellTidy · 01/06/2020 22:04

We didn’t buy any booze this week, so the most expensive single item was a big dressed crab.
