To ask, what's the highest priced item in your weekly shop?

I'm always interested to see what was the highest priced item in my food shop.

Usually it is processed/pre-made which tops the list. Or cleaning items like laundry products; I've started to buy dish washer tabs monthly via Amazon.

This shop it was a bucket of Linda McCartney southern fried chicken- £5.

Or it could be the two boxes of cat food, £8 total on a multi-buy. £4 each instead of £5.

Ingredient-type items seem cheap as chips in comparison.

What is your highest priced item?

cat food or nappies

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/06/2020 10:49

Always the alcohol.

There's just me and young DS at home so we don't buy big cuts of meat or anything.

MrsR87 · 01/06/2020 10:49

Lobe this thread! Mine certainly various from week to week but this week it was minced lamb at £5.75.

SweetPetrichor · 01/06/2020 10:50

On occasional shops it'll be toilet roll, or laundry capsules...but that is when stocking up. On the everyday type of shop, it will likely be meat of some sort, or gluten free items.

Joint of beef (although not weekly). But it lasts a couple of days for dinner, plus lunches.

For meal amount Vs price, it's more likely to be the prawns...

MrsPear · 01/06/2020 10:51

Meat - a chicken cost me £9 (free range) yet washing powder was £5 and bathroom cleaner £1.

zscaler · 01/06/2020 10:51

My shop is always way more expensive when I have to buy cleaning or washing products, or cat litter.

Otherwise, the things that are routinely more pricey are oat milk, or if we buy the expensive kind of vegan sausages - the moving mountains ones are £5 for two sausages Shock.

Then there are expensive treats like wine etc, but we aren’t buying any at the moment because I am pregnant.

caperberries · 01/06/2020 10:52

Alcohol, fancy olive oils, dishwasher tablets

ThighThighofthigh · 01/06/2020 10:52

Caffeine free diet coke! Addicted.

PersonaNonGarter · 01/06/2020 10:52

Cat food £9
Dishwasher tablet £10
Large thing of Persil/Daz etc £10

That’s not including alcohol, and the dog food comes from farm supplies so £20 but not in the weekly shop.

TeaAndBrie · 01/06/2020 10:52

Normally fresh meat, chicken breasts etc

Home42 · 01/06/2020 10:53

Tequila this week 😁

snowybean · 01/06/2020 10:53

Wine: normally about £8. I do buy more expensive ones every now and again (~£15ish) but not every week.

Also: dishwasher tablets

EastMidsMumOf1 · 01/06/2020 10:54

Meat shopping comes to around £35 but that's for meals that we freeze etc and we dont buy pre-packaged meat so is always from the butchers, usually lasts just under a month though.
Most expensive thing that we have to buy weekly is kitchen roll!

Powerplant · 01/06/2020 10:54

Prosecco on offer at Tesco’s £6 I still only bought one bottle though otherwise too tempting🍾

lovinglavidaloca · 01/06/2020 10:54

This week our highest single item was laundry powder at £4.

vanillandhoney · 01/06/2020 10:56

24 cans of Diet Coke - normally £7. This week it was on offer for £5. Still the most expensive individual item Grin

CharmerLlama · 01/06/2020 10:56

Varies from week to week. Sometimes it's dishwasher tabs, sometimes a box of Peroni beer, another week it'll be DH's razors (bloody fortune!)

JessicaDay · 01/06/2020 10:58

An organic chicken usually. £10-15 depending the size of it.

Seeline · 01/06/2020 10:58

Rarely buy alcohol so it's usually the weekly joint for Sunday roast - especially beef or lamb (but they are probably once every 6 weeks or so.
Dishwasher tabs or tub of Vanish - but usually bought when on offer, rather when needed.
Since lockdown when I've been shopping for both DMum and DMIL too it's been my Mum's gluten free bits and batteries for MIL - I think she must eat those as she gets through a hell of a lot Grin

LakieLady · 01/06/2020 10:59

Most weeks it's wine, some weeks it's gin.

Occasionally, it's dishwasher tablets, but I tend to stock up whenever there's a decent offer on, so I very seldom have to pay full price.

MissMooMoo · 01/06/2020 11:00

Last shop was lamb steaks at £5.45

rottiemum88 · 01/06/2020 11:00

Usually wine at £10ish a bottle, unless it's nappy shop week when we'll spend £30 or so stocking up

Rebelwithallthecause · 01/06/2020 11:02

Wine forms the most expensive part of the shop but we don’t drink a lot so tend to test ourselves to a few good bottles
