To ask, what's the highest priced item in your weekly shop?

I'm always interested to see what was the highest priced item in my food shop.

Usually it is processed/pre-made which tops the list. Or cleaning items like laundry products; I've started to buy dish washer tabs monthly via Amazon.

This shop it was a bucket of Linda McCartney southern fried chicken- £5.

Or it could be the two boxes of cat food, £8 total on a multi-buy. £4 each instead of £5.

Ingredient-type items seem cheap as chips in comparison.

What is your highest priced item?

Wine or Prosecco

Parker231 · 01/06/2020 17:17

Gin, wine, beer and Prosecco!

Oysterbabe · 01/06/2020 17:20

Oh yeah I did but a wooden golf set in the aisle of shite this week.

InglouriousBasterd · 01/06/2020 17:23

A side of salmon at 8 quid - does three meals so well worth it!

Often otherwise laundry tablets. Although last week it was pine nuts at nearly £4 Shock

Proudboomer · 01/06/2020 17:27

Cat food but then I have 3 cats so it is going to mount up.
24 tray of coke £9 From Iceland
2 trays of bottled water £6 as on special offer at £3 each in Asda. We live in a hard water area and our tap water taste nasty. Probably get through 40 to 50 small bottles a week.
Didn’t buy a joint this week as it is too hot for a roast but usually spend £10 to £20 for either beef or lamb.

randomsabreuse · 01/06/2020 17:28

Usually booze, a joint of meat/side of salmon, something from the aisle of opportunity or some item of clothing depending on shop...

Takingontheworld · 01/06/2020 17:29

Pecan butter. 7 fucking quid for a pixie jar! But i love it 😭

EnglishRain · 01/06/2020 17:29

Gaviscon original, £9.

squiggleirl · 01/06/2020 17:47

Shopping really is so much cheaper in the UK. I know it's been mentioned here before, but this thread has really let me see how much.

Meat is consistently the most expensive item in my shopping, but I'm astounded at some of the things I've seen here. Formula for £6.70? Usually about Eur13.50 here, but can go up to nearly 18. 24 cans of Diet Coke for £7 when not on offer? Eur13 here.

I've often read threads, about the cost of weekly shopping, and wondered how people could spend that little. Now I know how...

Scruffyoak · 01/06/2020 17:52

Probably Cat food and washing powder.

Pipandmum · 01/06/2020 17:54

Dog food or wine. Unless I'm buying a leg of lamb or something for a roast.

VictoriaBun · 01/06/2020 17:57

A cat treat. It's dried duck and the weight is 20g . Can't remember the actual cost ( a couple of ££s ) but I do remember it works out over £130.00 a kilo !

Merigoround · 01/06/2020 17:58

£25 for soap powder.
3 x 103 washes of persil . They will have to live in the larder and will last all year I expect.

Farmfoods have the best bargains sometimes.

Mintjulia · 01/06/2020 18:00

Large box of washing powder or a bottle of wine

SunbathingDragon · 01/06/2020 18:09

Just checked and yesterday’s most expensive item was steak. Usually it would be cat food or washing tablets though.

Tobebythesea · 01/06/2020 18:11

Nappies, baby formula, dishwasher tablets. Fun!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/06/2020 18:14

This week it’s salmon. Normally a joint of meat or wine or a slab of beer. Last week it was two small chickens which did the five of us 3 meals.

GinGinHooray · 01/06/2020 18:15

Gin or DH's razor blades (neither are weekly purchases though!)

FangsForTheMemory · 01/06/2020 18:15

Extra-large tub of OKeefe's Working Hands.

Oh the glamour.

Millie2013 · 01/06/2020 18:15

Wine usually, but I spent a fortune on fruit for DD today. She’s a fruit bat at the moment

PegasusReturns · 01/06/2020 18:16

Not including alcohol it tends to joints of meat or fish.

Slabs of Diet Coke and Fairy Dishwasher tablets also come in expensive but I try to stock up when they’re (frequently) on offer.

nobodysdaughter · 01/06/2020 18:27

A ham and cheese gratin for my DP. It was a fiver - but I got bare nectar points on it!

justforthecake · 01/06/2020 18:56

Cat food £10

I buy the cheap dishwasher tablets because every time I've gone expensive brand it hasn't cleaned everything so I stick with the cheap ones.

Serin · 01/06/2020 20:09

Cod £28.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/06/2020 20:21

This week what I requested was 4lbs mussels at US$16. H has been doing the shopping and he also spent US$30 on candy HmmAngry
