To ask, what's the highest priced item in your weekly shop?

I'm always interested to see what was the highest priced item in my food shop.

Usually it is processed/pre-made which tops the list. Or cleaning items like laundry products; I've started to buy dish washer tabs monthly via Amazon.

This shop it was a bucket of Linda McCartney southern fried chicken- £5.

Or it could be the two boxes of cat food, £8 total on a multi-buy. £4 each instead of £5.

Ingredient-type items seem cheap as chips in comparison.

What is your highest priced item?

Baby formula! £8

We are boring

PinkDaffodil2 · 01/06/2020 11:20

Pimms £20

Ninkanink · 01/06/2020 11:25

Gin/whisky/cognac/etc (if we’re buying that week)

Otherwise in terms of straightforward price it’ll usually be the meat.

Or, in terms of cost per weight it’ll probably be one or two of various things like spices/aromatics/exotic ingredients.

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 01/06/2020 11:27

PPs - Razors are SO expensive, and Vanish powder is an arm and a leg. I find the cheaper, imitation brands are ok and usually £1-2 a small pot. Might not be a saving if you need to buy in big quantities.

Gin. £28.

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 01/06/2020 11:29

A lot have mentioned cat litter. We have one cat, who mainly goes to the toilet outside, so we occasionally buy a bag of Tesco's own cat litter, which seems to be some sort of plaster dust and causes nasty dust clouds when I pour it out. Maybe I should switch to CatSan or those wooden pellets.

Kids magazine - blooming expensive but worth it for a couple of hours of interest. (We do have lots of books etc but nothing beats a comic apparently)

Peanutbutteryogurt · 01/06/2020 11:34

Wine. I must admit I don't really look at the price of the individual food items, I do scan as you shop so keep an eye on the total.

areyoubeingserviced · 01/06/2020 11:35

Salmon

CeibaTree · 01/06/2020 11:36

I just checked our delivery that's coming tomorrow, and the most expensive item is a bottle of Waitrose own brand gin (£12.50). The next most expensive item is some Fairy washing capsules (£7). The cheapest item is a head of broccoli for 55p.

MrsPotatoHeadsSheeWee · 01/06/2020 11:41

1kg of frozen broccoli here for 77p. Price matched to Aldi.

Yes for us would be the 24 cans of diet coke, dog food (either tins or dry) and the washing liquid. We do occasionally buy steak or salmon but usually only on offer!

mylittlesandwich · 01/06/2020 11:41

Most expensive it either formula (£6.70), Nappies (£4.50). Or a big pack of chicken breasts (£6.50).

lovewatchingrainfall · 01/06/2020 11:44

For me this week was the 800g of strawberries £3.50
Oh actually we did buy a top which was £8

FurForksSake · 01/06/2020 11:47

This week smoked salmon £5.20
next week 1.5kg lump of gammon £10

unchienandalusia · 01/06/2020 11:50

Wine. Our regular white burgundy is £10/£11 a bottle

unchienandalusia · 01/06/2020 11:53

Sorry that's rubbish. We buy a joint a week and if it's beef it's £25/30 from the butchers. Free range chicken would be £15.

mrsbyers · 01/06/2020 11:53

Varies , this week it was a tub of anchovies in oil , usually squash or now and again booze

Pebble21uk · 01/06/2020 11:56

Order from Tescos arriving in an hour. This week (all unusually) - whisky £20, Box of Becks Blue non-alcoholic beer - £8 and 4kg charcoal- £5.50.
Cheapest item - pack of doughnut peaches 39p.

Last week's most expensive item - beef brisket - £8

suggestionsplease1 · 01/06/2020 11:56

Half aromatic crispy duck with sauce and pancakes £4.99, I'm a sucker for this, love it too much. Probably a once a month thing though. Otherwise probably roast in bag chicken, or multi- buy salmon fillets/ side of salmon.

That's excluding alcohol however.

Drybird2020 · 01/06/2020 11:58

IAMS cat food at £11.

Choccyp1g · 01/06/2020 11:58

Fillet Steak, I used to only get it occasionally if it was reduced on the sell by date. But I paid full price last week, £12.50 !! for two. I justified it as being better and cheaper than eating out.

And the utter glee on DS face when he was eating it is almost worth it. He is doing university from home, so I felt he deserved a treat.

Greenteandchives · 01/06/2020 12:00

Decent coffee. Illy at £6.50, although we try to stock up when it’s on offer at £5.00.

Dozer · 01/06/2020 12:00

This week was DH’s gin, wine, then a loo roll multipack - £7.

Am v much missing Costco!

SqidgeBum · 01/06/2020 12:02

Tuna £5 for 4 tins. Also washing powder £8 but I only have to buy that maybe every 2-3 months. Sometimes I get big packs of chicken breasts for £9.
