To ask, what's the highest priced item in your weekly shop?

I'm always interested to see what was the highest priced item in my food shop.

Usually it is processed/pre-made which tops the list. Or cleaning items like laundry products; I've started to buy dish washer tabs monthly via Amazon.

This shop it was a bucket of Linda McCartney southern fried chicken- £5.

Or it could be the two boxes of cat food, £8 total on a multi-buy. £4 each instead of £5.

Ingredient-type items seem cheap as chips in comparison.

What is your highest priced item?

Gin

Poppyismyfavourite · 01/06/2020 12:08

Maybe cheese?
I just looked at our shopping list and there are 5 different types of cheese on it we might have a problem

Raspberries. We always buy at least three punnets. We grow then in the garden too. Grin

BeyondMyWits · 01/06/2020 12:19

Fish - we have fish 3 times a week at the moment and it is bloomin expensive. Salmon, Lemon sole, Pollock this week. Sole was most expensive at £18 for a big fish.

Emmagen · 01/06/2020 12:20

This week it was a monster pack of fairy non bio pod thingys. I normally use powder but I'm pregnant and struggling with sickness and for some reason the kitchen is now the smelliest place on earth and anything that cuts down how long it takes to put a wash on even just by seconds is worth it to me. Plus they'll be useful when the baby comes... I'm only 16wks, the bag is that big Grin

Probably a leg of lamb or joint of beef if I'm buying one, £30ish for lamb, £40ish for beef. Otherwise as PPs have said, premium spirits £40 or thereabouts.

I spend a lot on seafood and fish but don't get it from the supermarket.

CharDeeMacDennis · 01/06/2020 12:23

No alcohol here, but we do love nice meat, so usually that. Or fancy coffee. Or olive oil, but not lately as I have a Brexit stash to use up.

I go to Home Bargains for cheap dishwasher tabs and washing powder, definitely not gonna spend more than I have to on boring stuff like that.

MrsMonkeyBear · 01/06/2020 12:29

Organic free range chicken breasts. 4 breasts cost about £10

Dillo10 · 01/06/2020 12:31

Olive oil - £15 (used sparingly!)

WitchQueenofDarkness · 01/06/2020 12:31

Gin - £36.00

TankGirl97 · 01/06/2020 12:34

Organic chicken or sometimes fish. Quite often it's a big bucket of peanut butter for £6.75.

coffeeandpyjamas · 01/06/2020 12:35

I usually stock up in bulk on laundry and household stuff so most times for my monthly big shop the most expensive thing is a 30 pack of Diet Coke cans for around £10. I’ve been trying to drink a lot more water lately but still love my daily Diet Coke!

YahBasic · 01/06/2020 12:35

In the delivery this week, it’s beer.

From our normal Aldi shop, it’s normally wine or meat. We eat quite cheaply in the warm weather as 90% of it is salads or fruit, and 10% is bbq meats.

user1471582494 · 01/06/2020 12:37

Toilet paper and washing powder

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 01/06/2020 12:39

A Toni&Guy hair mask I snuck in to the weekly shop at 7 quid Grin

Actually no, I updated it yesterday for my partner's coffee, which came in at £11 for a kg. I don't drink it so I won't feel bad about the hair mask!

ssd · 01/06/2020 12:39

Chicken

Mominatrix · 01/06/2020 12:42

Champagne

BertieBotts · 01/06/2020 12:42

Coffee I think. I pay about €6 for a brick of it and it lasts me about six weeks.

Otherwise cleaning products. DH did get a 5 Kilo bag of rice last week which was expensive.

planningaheadtoday · 01/06/2020 12:46

Joint to roast. Seems extortionate at the moment £17.

spagbog5 · 01/06/2020 12:47

Gin or champagne 🤦🏽‍♀️
Cat food
Organic meat

DarkMintChocolate · 01/06/2020 12:50

A leg of lamb or big piece of beef @ £15 approximately. We tend to have chicken, or beef, or pork or lamb every Sunday, so it comes every fortnight. It does me for sandwiches for several days too.

SpudsGuns · 01/06/2020 12:51

Usually my husband's booze and the dog food.
That comes to around £50 alone.

MayFayre · 01/06/2020 12:52

Weed killer £13

handbagsatdawn33 · 01/06/2020 12:52

A box of wine.

MarshaBradyo · 01/06/2020 12:53

Sipsmith gin when I get it
Dishwasher tablets (back to half price which is great)
