To not want people in our hot tub

This is very trivial, but DH and I disagree and want to hear others views!

DH and I have a group of friends we socialise with regularly. They are very hospitable and will often have us round to their house for BBQ's, meals, drinks etc. (Pre lockdown). They come to our house also but not as often because they prefer to host.

During lockdown we bought an inflatable hot tub and they've asked us about it a lot and have shown interest in getting their own.

Now the announcement has come out that we are allowed to get together in gardens with friends and families in small groups has come out they are asking if they can come to our house for a BBQ and try out the hot tub.

I'm comfortable to have people round as I'm at work anyway so have to mix anyway. But... I just feel a bit grossed out by having other people in our hot tub. I just keep thinking it's like having a bath with other people and our neighbors will think we're swingers 😂

DH thinks it's fine and wants to say yes and feels we would be rude to say no.

So...

Yabu- it's unfair not to let your friends in your hot tub

Yanbu- it's okay to not let your friends in your hot tub

You say social distancing can't be met at the moment, pretty simple.

Megan2018 · 30/05/2020 18:00

My DH calls hot tubs sex ponds. Ewwww, no way I’d share with anyone Envy (not envy)

ddl1 · 30/05/2020 18:01

I would worry about the hygiene aspects of sharing a hot tub at any time, let alone a pandemic. And I doubt that it's allowed under present rules.

ComDummings · 30/05/2020 18:08

No. Just no. They’re too close like a bath. Swimming pools are less weird to share as they’re much bigger (I mean real swimming pools not massive paddling pools) it’s not as intimate to me. But hot tubs sharing is a huge nope.

Hugglespuffed · 30/05/2020 18:16

I put YABU but obviously you aren't at the moment. Generally though I can't see a problem!

@JoesExotic I don`t want to be part of your sex-festival :-)

Captainmarvel0160 · 30/05/2020 18:41

To those who said no, why not?
Hot tubs and for that matter saunas & steam rooms certainly have a bad rep. if located in a massage parlour -I think we all know the ones I mean - however a hot tub in your own back garden is so not the same.
Firstly I doubt your neighbours would think your swingers and if they do so what!!!
Secondly I've a hot tub... When having a bar b q -children included - both adult & children get in the hot tub, albeit mainly the children. Both have swimming costumes on and with due respect they know better than to pee in there it's not the toilet. My hot tub is always had chlorinated incase of accidents.
Lastly full restrictions have not been lifted so may I suggest having some hanky panky in your hot tub then drain, clean & refill afterwards. Show your neighbours what they are missing.

Hot tubs ... Coming to a Council house near you....In a few days, once the sun’s gone back in, it’ll be full of flies and great algae and will just be another eyesore that remains to be paid on your credit card.

Jesus, why be such an unnecessary bitch? If you don’t want a hot tub don’t get one. Simple. What are you trying to achieve with snobbish policing of other people’s perfectly valid choices. Confused

pinktaxi · 30/05/2020 19:01

Did this once with our huge jacuzzi and need to change the water after as it went all scummy. Yuck! Chlorine didn't seem to make any difference.

Are you questioning the validity of mine

I’m questioning the snobbish insinuations about council houses and paying on credit. What’s that about?

@Realistica11y

Hot tubs ... Coming to a Council house near you.

Cheap inflatable pools with a heating element. WTH ? ... how often have you run a bath upstairs, filled it with your favourite flavour of Radox and asked your friends to jump in for some Co-op Prosecco and Carling ?

In a few days, once the sun’s gone back in, it’ll be full of flies and great algae and will just be another eyesore that remains to be paid on your credit card.

Maybe a radox bath would loosen the stick up your bum? Or maybe it’s a lost cause ☹️
PunkrockerGirl59 · 30/05/2020 20:21

Germs love a warm environment. All that swirling mass of germs, poo crumbs and God knows what else Hell would freeze over before I'd set foot in one of those seething germ magnets. And don't tell me that children adults never piss in them because that would be spectacularly naive Confused

ViciousJackdaw · 30/05/2020 20:29

Being serious for a moment, could you have the BBQ and simply not get in the tub yourselves? Or give them free rein of the back garden for a few hours on the provision they drain and clean after use? How would you feel about letting them take it round to theirs for the day?

Gingerkittykat · 30/05/2020 20:33

Realistica11y I don't even have a hot tub but I wish I could move next door to you just to install the biggest and noisiest one I can find, I'm not a prosecco type of person so will buy a case of Lambrini and some white lightning!

I regularly go the jacuzzi in my leisure centre, partly because it helps with a pain condition. It's no different from using the chlorinated swimming pool. You all need to chill out about sharing.

The steam room is grim though, no way do I want to breathe in the vapourised sweat from some smelly arse crack or scrotum!

Captainmarvel0160 · 30/05/2020 23:47

Not wishing to offend anyone however germs are everywhere!!! In my opinion this current situation has proved just that; Supermarket trollies, fuel pumps, hand rails, public swimming baths, the list is endless...
Many years ago, a small section of a documentary was done on water bottles used by only one person who regularly visited the gym. They used the same water bottle, rinsed after using & would then use again when visiting the gym the next time. They believed it was clean however upon closer examination this was not to be the case.
Yes a hot tub has the potential to be a germ magnet and yes both adults/ children can urinate in them - no denying that - however in preventing illness of ourselves & others it is hot tubs owners responsibility to try prevent that.

Dieu · 31/05/2020 00:17

I think it would be really precious and petty not to allow them to try it out. They sound like hospitable and generous friends.
YABU.

Dieu · 31/05/2020 00:19

And it's only with a view to buying their own. It's not like they're going to make a habit of it Confused

shinynewapple2020 · 31/05/2020 00:30

I don't think I'd want to be sharing a hot tub even without worries about Covid infection !

CallmeBadJanet · 31/05/2020 17:47

@Lockdown12 Corona People soup. Yuk.🤮

Shona52 · 31/05/2020 17:50

We are still having to keep social distancing. It would not be safe to share the hot tube with anyone outside of your household. Please don’t do it.

I would say only when public swimming pools are reopened could you entertain this idea.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 31/05/2020 17:51

Your neighbours will think you are swingers???? Really??? How insulting to actual discreet swingers!!! @Lockdown12 your sad and childish. I hope someone wees in your hot tub 🤣🤣
