Yes

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/05/2020 08:23

🙄

Shinjirarenai · 29/05/2020 08:24

Yes definitely.

ChaToilLeam · 29/05/2020 08:25

No, in fact I am sometimes quite horrified by the right wing posts on here. The site has posters from all over the political spectrum.

Glowcat · 29/05/2020 08:27

Do we get badges?

testing987654321 · 29/05/2020 08:27

I thought it was sweary mums only.

TeenPlusTwenties · 29/05/2020 08:29

I think it depends what topics.

Tory views get dismissed as being unfeeling/uncaring. (e.g. if you voted Tory you want
You should apparently never expect a birthday present or an inheritance.
Children should be doing their own washing from 11.
All children should be kicked out and financially independent from 18.

ps. Is standing up vociferously for single sex spaces leftish or rightish?

trellishead · 29/05/2020 08:29

Nope. Why not learn about what goes on rather than than this tribalism....

Graciebobcat · 29/05/2020 08:29

If only, it's full of right wing astroturfers at times.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 29/05/2020 08:31

Is this a somewhat pretentious way of saying that bigotry often gets called out here and you don’t like it? But because that paints YOU in a negative light, you try to shift the blame by claiming it’s a deliberate rejection of different views?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/05/2020 08:32

There’s a range but the weighting is overwhelmingly towards the left on most topics. It’s probably less of an echo chamber than most people’s Facebooks, but that’s because we typically make our personal social media into a reflection of our views.

FreeKitties · 29/05/2020 08:33

No, I’ve been a poster here for a fair few years, under different usernames. I am grew up very working class, and am now middle class (in terms of affluence) my political views are typically right of centre, I grew up in a northern labour stronghold and will never hold a ‘must be left wing above all costs’ mentality, mainly because I’ve seen how damaging that can be !

And I’ve had some fantastic thoughtful discussions on here, and sometimes respectful disagreements, with posters from all different political stripes, and there are a few ‘lefties’ on here that i look out for because their posts are always insightful and thought provoking.

Mumsnet is a fantastic chat forum and one of the main appeals for me is that it’s mostly women, women can talk differently be more open and participate more when there are no men around (even online!)

As in real life there are some vociferous posters who are passionate about their ‘thing’ but that doesn’t mean there is only one view allowed- look at any political thread and you will find 3 more discussing the opposite view!
And yes there are also occasional asshats, as with any online discussion boards, you just have to ignore them.

EsmeShelby · 29/05/2020 08:34

No, I think it is quite centrist, but because women bear the brunt of social policy we have more to say about it.
And there are many women on here that never have particular boards that interest them, but never look at the other stuff.

Glowcat · 29/05/2020 08:34

Thanks Graciebobcat. That’s a lovely new (to me) word.

NekoShiro · 29/05/2020 08:35

What leftist chatter? I feel like the whole political spectrum is here posting but if this was full of leftist chatter I'd expect a whole load more 'hippy' stuff constantly, or way more lgbt threads in a positive light, most of them are just people saying they believe in single sex spaces and everyone agreeing with them and patting each other on the back.

EsmeShelby · 29/05/2020 08:35

HAVE particular boards that interest them.

Lostvoiced · 29/05/2020 08:35

I see more posts whinging about how Tories are demonized than I do posts demonising Tories.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 29/05/2020 08:36

Absolutely, 100%.

Pertella · 29/05/2020 08:37

Oh, is that what we are this week?

MadameMarie · 29/05/2020 08:38

It's known for trans phobia not exactly left wing

SockYarn · 29/05/2020 08:39

Pretty much sums it up.

Crispyturtle · 29/05/2020 08:39

No I think it’s pretty centrist, as I believe most of the country actually is. It’s just the political discourse over the past few years has sought to separate us into left & right.
