Well of course, you’re entitled to your opinion, but I’m also entitled to mine.

Of course you are. You are not entitled to tell people they are ridiculous for being 'upset' about this scandal.

fiftiesmum · 24/05/2020 18:31

Will email my mp as soon as my hairdresser and manicurist have finished and I have dropped granny and my neices home.

Humphriescushion · 24/05/2020 18:32

Fab tweet. Hope it is doing the rounds. The contempt for people by the government is incredible.

RubyViolet · 24/05/2020 18:32

Do The Cummings neighbours in Islington hate them? Wouldn’t they have helped and organised his shopping ? Do they not have an Ocado account ? Doesn’t the wife have family members in London ????????
I am really failing to see what the family had to leave.
This totally stinks !!!!!!
It’s a massive cover up !!!! What did Dom do ? Why did they really travel North ????

FliesandPies · 24/05/2020 18:33

Civil service tweet Shock

SouthernComforts · 24/05/2020 18:33

Well if anyone missed the tweet, the BBC made sure everyone knew about it Grin

AnyFucker · 24/05/2020 18:35

Clearly I need to get me and DH infected, pinch a 4yo from somewhere, and get on the motorway

BubblesBuddy · 24/05/2020 18:36

Cummings wife has relatives in London. He’s paid by the tax payer and it’s circa £100,000.

It’s a shambles and they let him do what he wants. He’s God.

Lostvoiced · 24/05/2020 18:37

Anyone else see that bit on Channel 4 news with that member of the public saying she had a new grandchild born in lockdown shes not even able to hold yet?
Heartbreaking.

My son was born in January and my mum came down straight away. Her visit really helped me gain confidence as a mum. I would have been absolutely gutted to have to miss out on that.

Just makes me even more furious about their "Yeah but no but" when it comes to THEM following the rules.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/05/2020 18:37

I can lend you a 5 or 6 year old, @AnyFucker, I'm sure they'll qualify. Or both, just to be on the safe side! They'd love a trip.

SophieB100 · 24/05/2020 18:37

This is what Cummings could have done:

Got a Downing St official to drive the child to his sisters.
Got a Downing St official to collect his sister and install her in a separate part of his house, or put them both together in a flat.
(The guidance says you can travel to provide care, so she could have travelled herself or got collected).
Wait and see if they could manage, like thousands of others, and get help in their house if they couldn't - see above.

Food - really? They travelled for 5 hours so that the sister could drop food off at the door. Are we supposed to believe that Cummings couldn't get a delivery? From Waitrose/local food stores/Downing St?

Boris is a disgrace. He is backed into a corner - if he sacks him, Cummings will dish the dirt and Boris will be out. If he doesn't he's screwed up the whole lockdown, shown himself as weak and ineffectual, so he's still out.

Boris had misread the public mood - and now it's going to bite him on his chubby bum. He's failed the test, he's insulted the people he needs on side to keep following rules. Rules, that don't apply to his mate.

I hated Boris last year, I started to warm to him this Spring, and now I've gone full circle. And I bet I'm not the only one.

Sky has a number plate which they have confirmed as Cummings after the illness on April 12th, Barnard Castle. 30 miles from his parent's house.

This won't go away. The Guardian will have more. The sooner they share it the better.

"While most people interpreted the rules to mean you shouldn’t tweet personal opinions to thousands of people via your work social media account, because that’s what they have consistently been told, actually the UK civil service social media manager was within the rules & the law"

Grin
Inoneminute · 24/05/2020 18:39

Yes, I have a colleague whose daughter is really struggling with a newborn but they've stayed away and listened to her cry over the phone rather than go to help Sad

Inoneminute · 24/05/2020 18:40

Genius Helena Grin

SharonasCorona · 24/05/2020 18:40

Perhaps BBC article [[https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-politics-50978329]] explains that civil service tweet 😂

‘Dominic Cummings said the civil service lacked people with "deep expertise in specific fields".

He said he wanted "weirdos and misfits with odd skills" to work in government.‘

NiknicK · 24/05/2020 18:41

I’ve already said that I can understand the whole one rule for them one rule for us argument, and I get why people might be frustrated, but really, is this frustration going to get you anywhere? The man in question can’t take back what he’s done and even if he were given the boot that wouldn’t change. No matter how hard people stamp their feet you cannot influence the prime ministers decision to keep this man on.

HeIenaDove · 24/05/2020 18:41

So her birthday and Easter Sunday fell on the same day. And we are suppossed to believe it wasnt a jolly.

SharonasCorona · 24/05/2020 18:42

Did the BBC retweet the Civil Service tweet?

The80sweregreat · 24/05/2020 18:44

My hairdresser today wonders why I've let my roots go grey and my fringe get so long!
Could anyone on here defend me having her round? I used my integrity : I felt it was the right thing to do for my hair : Boris said I could have her round because it's all fine. I can stop the spread by having her round to cut my hair. She might have had to travel miles to see me but that's absolutely fine.
No rule breaking going on here .. none at all
( disclaimer : not had a haircut since lockdown! The badger look continues)

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 18:44

So they travelled 5 hours to get a food delivery.

Makes it worse in some ways. When elsewhere a very elderly person was starving and a kind police officer went to a shop to buy them basics.

That police officer is the real hero.

Not the twat using "but I love my kid and wife"

Inoneminute · 24/05/2020 18:44

It should be a simple question then Helena, easy to remember which county you were in on your birthday.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 18:46

80's it's fine. You decided it was integrity to safeguard you routes

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2020 18:47

Or even your roots Grin

lyralalala · 24/05/2020 18:47

So people should just stay quiet and accept elected officials making decisions without a word on them?

That’s, thankfully, not how politics works. People are entitled to vent their frustrations, and absolutely should. How do politicians, in government or in opposition, know the options of the public if the public stay quiet?

Contrary to what Boris and Dominic think they don’t have the only opinions that matter
