I don't know if anyone has posted this already but the best response to this was one I saw on twitter.

To paraphrase - expecting Boris to sack Dominic is like asking Emu to sack Rod Hull.

I get what you’re saying but I too have been making sacrifices and have 100% stuck to the rules. I too have family members who work for the nhs and I have to consider childcare. The point I’m trying to get across is that one person doing something that you don’t agree with, doesn’t directly impact your own personal circumstances. It might be annoying yes but that’s life unfortunately.

Or stay put and maybe both parents get bedridden and unable to draw breath or care for a child at all? Especially if the child becomes seriously unwell. What would they do then?

That’s the situation many people faced which was incredibly worrying for them but they stayed put as that’s what the briefings had made clear people should do. But apparently there was small print that only BJ’s aides were privy to.

Really is a case of do as I say, not as I do. Then Johnson to spout on about the right kind of childcare and having acted with integrity plus try to divert with school openings is really awful .

I've never emailed my MP because I never saw the point but I hope MPs wake up to an avalanche of emails.

My mother in law lives THREE doors away from me and I cant go see her! Guess I should have just purchased some Tory "integrity" so me and the baby can nip down nannies!

Roger Gale was saying a similar thing to what i said about seaside resorts upthread.

Yes you stayed home and stayed put. And the local hubs sorted food and medicine for you and if you had no childcare you contacted the local hub. It was clearly stated. But they have said numerous times "the right person to care for their son". Maybe LA care isn't good enough for them despite it being acceptable for the rest of us?

Dom's wife, Mary Wakefield, is of an old aristo family, they own Chillingham Castle in Northumberland, she and Boris have been close friends for many years.

There is absolutely no way that Boris was going to give Dom the heave-ho, as I said earlier today. These are the the very people whose support Boris is desperate to keep.

Boris is looking to the political future here, when the people who still have old money to support them in hard times, will dominate the polls. The rest will be too sick, hungry and cold to be able to get to the polling station.

And another thing re. fines. They INCREASED them back on the 13th May so AFTER they knew DC had done this.

It's not a question of 'don't agree' with what Cummings did - he took unacceptable risks with other people's health, he lied, his wife lied, he has used his child to hide behind, his actions are in every way totally reprehensible and there's NO WAY people are going to shrug this off with 'oh well, that's life'

They still need the votes of the peasants though .

Dh and I going down has been one of my biggest worries, we don't have young dc anymore, but still quite young. But they could get fed and have water without us.
Basic food. But had they been much younger I wouldn't have been able to cope.
Not all dc are the same. We don't know what they can or cant cope with.
One dc is a dream, the other has driven me to the edge of Maddness.
OK now but would have been very difficult to manage with a severe bout of covid.

So TEN DAYS after the fines increased, they came out with "it was only guidance" on the 23rd May.
