"Get them up there, girls"

Am I being unreasonable to loathe this advert.

I find it so cringeworthy, I am now turning to a different channel to avoid it. But I wasn't quick enough this time, and yet another "get them up there, girls" has launched itself at me. I think I actually find it embarrassing and I am not sure when I was last embarrassed by something.

Urghhh.

Yes - I am unreasonable to loathe it
No - I am not unreasonable to loathe it

To add, I don't think I have ever felt this way about an advert before.

Are there any other adverts that fall into this category?

Will have to google

whiplashy · 21/05/2020 22:17

What advert?

ClassicCola · 21/05/2020 22:19

It makes me cringe.

Itsbeforepartb · 21/05/2020 22:19

It's a Tampax advert, YANBU it's awful!

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2020 22:19

Tampons I think.

StatementKnickers · 21/05/2020 22:19

I'm just happy the script includes the word "girls".

I did wonder though, are there REALLY so many women who don't know how to put in a tampon properly? Tampax must have commissioned the advert in response to market research. It's bizarre.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/05/2020 22:19

It’s a tampon advert and yes it’s very coarse and makes me Confused

Doggodogington · 21/05/2020 22:19

Yeah, maybe you could tell us what advert you are on about.

cardibach · 21/05/2020 22:19

I don’t think I’ve ever seen MN quite so strongly in agreement. 120% think YANBU - including me.

Haven’t seen it but it sounds grim to me

LeviOsaNotLeviosAR · 21/05/2020 22:20

I was a bit Hmm when I first saw it. It is a bit icky, but I don't have a real issue with it. It certainly doesn't offend me enough to turn the channel over.

m00rfarm · 21/05/2020 22:21

Sorry - I assumed that living in Portugal and not seeing too much UK TV, and this ad being on every other second (or that is how it appears) I thought I was late to the party and everyone would have seen it. Link above Smile

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 21/05/2020 22:22

It's cringy, but you'd be surprised how many women complain their tampon is uncomfortable

m00rfarm · 21/05/2020 22:22

@cardibach - 120% is mega impressive for my first ever poll. I think it is back to 80% now which is nowhere near as good Wink

Likethebattle · 21/05/2020 22:24

I can push them in until they hit my cervix and I can still feel them! I have a tilt that makes tampons unusable.

OptimisticSix · 21/05/2020 22:24

I havemt seen it but it sounds revolting. That said I find Tampax revolting, they expand the wrong way and are ubcomfotable and awful.

ieatmainelylobster · 21/05/2020 22:25

its awful - I as the same at first, cringing and switching over. Now I watch it intently and try and work out WTAF they were trying to achieve and how they hell they could ever could come up with this.

Coarse is so the right word.

MarginalGain · 21/05/2020 22:25

I'm not crazy about it but I'm a product of my childhood, I suppose. I was taught to be discreet about my period and this makes sense to me. Things are different now...

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 21/05/2020 22:27

They could have definitely be done better. I don't really like the whole jokey, make it into a laugh way they try to teach girls about periods. Yes it's a part of life but "get them up there girls" is cringey. Also the whole chat show setting makes me a bit 🙄 bit stereotypical.

cushioncovers · 21/05/2020 22:28

Oh god it's awful yanbu

m00rfarm · 21/05/2020 22:29

Yes - it is coarse. You are so right. And it feels like a low budget production - in years to come it will appear on the top ten dreadful adverts. And I can cringe all over again.

And the wink at the end...

Grim.

frasersmummy · 21/05/2020 22:31

That's just ugghhh
