Am I being unreasonable to loathe this advert.

I find it so cringeworthy, I am now turning to a different channel to avoid it. But I wasn't quick enough this time, and yet another "get them up there, girls" has launched itself at me. I think I actually find it embarrassing and I am not sure when I was last embarrassed by something.

Urghhh.

Yes - I am unreasonable to loathe it
No - I am not unreasonable to loathe it

Do it for comfort Grin

I really don't see the issue?Confused I think the casual use of language is to try and break the stigma for young girls. Yes, some girls don't know how to use a tampon and this advert is aimed at those, not you and I.

m00rfarm · 22/05/2020 08:43

The advert I am seeing is on Drama channel - which in my opinion is aimed at people quite possibly the same age as me, which is several years past requiring the product. I really cannot see teenagers watching reruns of Lovejoy, Soldier Soldier, The Bill, Holby City from 20 years ago.

she was supposed to leave the plastic applicator in

That happened to my mum as well...apparently sitting down was a challenge

JudyCoolibar · 22/05/2020 08:59

It never once occurred to me to ask anyone else how to use a tampon, let alone my mother. I just read the instructions, which were probably less helpful back when I was a teenager than they are now.

NoMoreTwistNoMoreTwist · 22/05/2020 09:10

I’m all for periods not being taboo, it’s perfectly normal and natural. However the delivery in that advert is just awful. YANBU. I’m also a bit against tampons, as after several years with no issues one nearly killed me! Although at the time I just thought I was coming down with something very suddenly, because they don’t advertise the dangers. Fortunately I was with someone who knew about it. Tampons are actually dangerous for girls and women, but socially more acceptable because they’re less noticeable. Regardless of having a chemical filled cylinder inside you, that can make you infertile or kill you.
Although it doesn’t annoy me as much as the always advert, something about softness is what makes us girls/women....? Ugh. I have to mute it.

NoMoreTwistNoMoreTwist · 22/05/2020 09:12

@JudyCoolibar Ditto! It’s very demeaning. Really is an awful advert.

dottiedodah · 22/05/2020 09:35

I saw this and think the 2 actresses look uncomfortable doing it as well. I have never found Tampons very comfortable TBH and prefer Always .It kind of reminds me of a School type briefing and seems equally cringeworthy to me .

ElectricTonight · 22/05/2020 09:50

I agree OP. Hated every second of it.

ElectricTonight · 22/05/2020 09:52

And I'm sure it's Mel Bs voice and a different actress miming ?

andannabegins · 22/05/2020 09:54

'Not just the tip but up to the grip'. Worst advert ever. I can't believe it hasn't been pulled yet

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/05/2020 10:45

Yea
I am pretty sure its Mel B's voice too

Perhaps she was to expensive to present the actual ad. Bizarre all round really

Serialcatmum · 25/05/2020 10:51

It’s just so, so bad. I can’t turn it off. Jc have some kind of fascination where I HAVE to watch the car crash happen 😩

Thisismytimetoshine · 25/05/2020 10:54

What on earth is that tag line for?? We all know they have to "go up there", it's the sole reason we buy the fucking things Confused
Is there a fear some people would shove them in their ear by mistake without their crass instructions?

Slipjigger · 25/05/2020 11:57

I absolutely cant stand this ad.
I live in Ireland and we have this daily radio talk show called Liveline. An older woman rang in to give out about the ad, I ended up turning it off about 10 mins later as in typical Irish fashion we were told we were catholic prudes ashamed of our own bodies if we couldn't watch an ad about periods.

I have a 12 year old girl and 2 bouts (9 and 10) , all know about periods and tampons/pads. This ad is just so cringeworthy.

Also we are not the problem with these tampons, Tampax make the worst tampons. There is no need to expand lengthways, this makes them incredibly uncomfortable, you can feel them and they leak. Instead of treating women like morons and blaming us for incorrect use, they should change the design of their products to suit our bodies.

Lillets are the best and they are bleach free.

Slipjigger · 25/05/2020 11:58

*boys not bouts!

Kljnmw3459 · 25/05/2020 12:01

I saw it and thought ugh, but actually it did take me quite a while to learn how to put it in properly.

SarahTancredi · 25/05/2020 12:42

Klj used to find applicators made it harder you couldnt grip them properly so you had to kinda pull back til u could properly do it using 2 hands except applying any form of pressure the the outside of the applicator made it really hard to push the other part up. And then as you had pulled it back it wasnt in the right place so u had to then use the applicator to push it back up and hope it did it as opposed to causing it to bend or go the wrong way etc.
And then after all that it would expand lengthways and be really uncomfortable.

Non applicator tampons are so much easier and you dont get the pinch. Or the scratch as one of the little triangle cut outs at the top bent back to far and dug in...

The problem is definately the product. Not the user.
