Am I being unreasonable to loathe this advert.

I find it so cringeworthy, I am now turning to a different channel to avoid it. But I wasn't quick enough this time, and yet another "get them up there, girls" has launched itself at me. I think I actually find it embarrassing and I am not sure when I was last embarrassed by something.

Urghhh.

Yes - I am unreasonable to loathe it
No - I am not unreasonable to loathe it

No. YANBU. It's totally demeaning to females and totally unnecessary. I really feel women and girls are coming more and more under attack lately.
Is this the advert with the tampon string showing? That's utterly fucking disgusting as well. If I was shopping for these products I'd be buying supermarkets own brands.

MitziK · 21/05/2020 22:38

It's horrible. As if somebody specifically requested filming women (young and attractive, borderline teenaged, preferably) talking about putting things in their vaginas when any packet of the things gives perfectly understandable directions and illustrations already.

DamnYankee · 21/05/2020 22:38

I assumed it was an advertisement for a bra!

User56781234 · 21/05/2020 22:40

Awful, isn't it? Why is she channelling Les Dawson? It's like some awful 90's ladette bantering late night show. I cringe every time it comes on. YANBU!

Btw I say this as someone who loved Les Dawson.

gabsdot45 · 21/05/2020 22:41

It's s ridiculous advert. I can't imagine who ever thought of it.
DH and I do imitations of it sometimes.

user1635482648 · 21/05/2020 22:46

Oh dear god.

AnneElliott · 21/05/2020 22:49

It is cringe! I keep thinking of my Nan who disliked adverts about sanitary wear of any sort.

She used to sniff that we all used them so she saw no reason to advertise! I always think of her when when I see ads like this.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 21/05/2020 22:50

Dreadful advert, their expressions make my teeth itch

Godzillasonice · 21/05/2020 22:51

Awful advert. Plus mine still hurt even if I do that due to having a tilt.

RuffleCrow · 21/05/2020 22:53

"Them" almost sounds like they're encouraging women to put more than one in at a time.

Wobblywibblywoo · 21/05/2020 22:53

It’s an awful advert!

NewAccountForCorona · 21/05/2020 22:54

I absolutely hate it. I watch tv with my young adult son, and every time it comes on I really want to tell him something, but I'm not sure what. It makes me feel so uncomfortable - as if they were advertising wanksocks or butt plugs.

Tampon use should be just normal, everyday, not over-enthusiastically special focus advertising.

WrongKindOfFace · 21/05/2020 22:54

It’s grim. What on Earth were they thinking?

ILikeSardines · 21/05/2020 22:54

The advice itself isn't bad but the delivery is dreadful.

Get them up there girls, wtf.

PicsInRed · 21/05/2020 22:55

That ad, if not written by men, was certainly produced and directed by men. Wink. Grim.

Love how the ad effectively gaslights women that if they find tampons uncomfortable they're just doing it wrong. Nothing to do with the product or perhaps their own physiology.

On second thoughts, also written by men.

Poppyismyfavourite · 21/05/2020 22:57

Ewwww
tampax are terrible anyway... Why would you want lengthways expansion?? Li-lets or own brand all the way!

omgshoes · 21/05/2020 22:57

It's the script and delivery that's mad cringe. The message itself could be useful. I've never worn a tampax in my life and once I had to put a thrush tablet up there. I grit my teeth and did my best. Got up, walking round the house like John Wayne for the whole day and when I went to loo later bloody thing fell out whole. Some girls just can't get it up there.

Therollockingrogue · 21/05/2020 22:58

Revolting.

justasking111 · 21/05/2020 23:00

Oh that ad, it is bloody awful. OH was stunned that it was on the TV.

ScreamingBeans · 21/05/2020 23:01

Nasty

princessTiasmum · 21/05/2020 23:02

Awful and i hate the one about incontinence
"A litte bit of wee, etc,"

ILikeSardines · 21/05/2020 23:03

Agree that Tampax are horrible anyway the lengthways expansion thing I also find unpleasant sad PPs have said

Itsbeforepartb · 21/05/2020 23:04

And the one that goes "now I feel protected and pretty" (for incontinence knickers with flowers printed on them)

JetSetGo · 21/05/2020 23:04

I agree with you. It is cring worthy. Even as a man i hate it. It winds me up. Like all adverts though its designed to be memorable. Theres another one where a womans seen removing a whole cucumber from a fridge while the kitchen is dark (ie. indicating its late night). I think its either bosch or marks and spencers. Its very strange and clearly has sexual conatations.

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2020 23:06

I love Tampax, have used them since I was a teenager. Old school with the cardboard applicator.

The ones with the plastic applicator are horrible.
