Am I being unreasonable to loathe this advert.

I find it so cringeworthy, I am now turning to a different channel to avoid it. But I wasn't quick enough this time, and yet another "get them up there, girls" has launched itself at me. I think I actually find it embarrassing and I am not sure when I was last embarrassed by something.

Urghhh.

Yes - I am unreasonable to loathe it
No - I am not unreasonable to loathe it

Awful and i hate the one about incontinence
"A litte bit of wee, etc,"

Oh yes. It’s not normal to piss yourself. The message should be to see the gp.

SpookyNoise · 21/05/2020 23:06

I can’t stand the tampon advert. It’s very embarrassing.

As for those (not)pretty incontinence pants...Urgh.

Tardigrade001 · 21/05/2020 23:07

Stupid and annoying, and the tacky phrase will enter popular culture.
Also agree re: tampac expanding the wrong way. Not a fan.

IcedPurple · 21/05/2020 23:07

Yup. Total cringe. I'm all for periods being spoken of openly and without embarrasment, but this attempt at 'humour' is just unfunny and very cringey. I feel sorry for the actresses.

Therollockingrogue · 21/05/2020 23:09

As an aside , I hate Tampax. They are so nasty and rough like a wodge of old cardboard. and the string is like a rope. Lil lets are better , but recently on a work trip to Poland I bought some cheap drugstore Polish ones which were a million times more absorbent and comfy. And then I realised that they were the tampons that you find in lots of the own brand boxes In the uk. So it’s cheapo tampons all the way for me now, never looked back. Anyway I digress ...

SandAndSea · 21/05/2020 23:09

I knew exactly what you were referring to as soon as I saw the thread title. Yes, it really is that awful!

I have no idea who they are targeting here. I can't imagine many women being attracted by this ad.

Chickoletta · 21/05/2020 23:10

There was an article in the paper a few weeks ago about tampons by a female writer who had found tampons uncomfortable for years - turns out she had been shoving the whole applicator up there too...!

PicsInRed · 21/05/2020 23:10

The normalisation (and sexualisation 🤔) of birth injuries makes me even angrier.

How about adequate obstetric care, rather than sexy incontinence grundies.

Fucking christ.

PicsInRed · 21/05/2020 23:14

turns out she had been shoving the whole applicator up there too...

Sure she had.

MorganKitten · 21/05/2020 23:14

I don’t have an issue with it, it actually made a few of the teens I work with realise it shouldn’t be uncomfortable and sort themselves out.

I don’t find the one with the string bad either, it’s a period, get on with stuff, it’s normal.

Turtletotem · 21/05/2020 23:18

I find it a really irritating advert along with the 'bladder leak underwear' 'vaginal dryness" and erectile dysfunction!

Lurleene · 21/05/2020 23:19

I saw a new advert for Tena recently, older women in their 'boudoirs' saying that incontinence doesnt affect their sex life. One said something like 'I call it my trickle of joy'.Envy (not envy). I've only seen it the once I don't know if it's still on.

TheGreatWave · 21/05/2020 23:22

I think I might be the type of 'girl' the advert is aimed at, but it is so bad that it just makes me never want to try them again anyway.

They hurt, not uncomfortable, but painful. I am quite happy to live my life without them.

I don't need to be patronised by someone who probably wasn't even born when I had my first period (and all the 'Tampon Lady' school talks)

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 21/05/2020 23:22

I hadn't seen it and my first thought was some sort of bra ad... but it is cringeworthy. And yes, lots of women find them uncomfortable, often for medical reasons like endometriosis, not because they haven't 'got 'em up there' Angry

foodiefil · 21/05/2020 23:25

I'm with you. Cringgggge

SarahTancredi · 21/05/2020 23:32

Its dreadful. Instead of explaining theres a variety if products to suit your body they infantalise women making it they are too stupid to put them in properly

We dont need yelling at thanks..

I prefer lilets anyway. Tampax and always have lost my custom fir good

lesbihonest · 21/05/2020 23:37

Another who thinks it’s probably aimed at me - many failed attempts, I’m happier with just pads ! Find them too awkward to use, the applicator I can’t get to work at all and they’re eye watering painful to remove .

onesmalldog · 21/05/2020 23:38

It's all a bit 'Loose Women'.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 21/05/2020 23:40

Mehhh, hadn't seen before link upthread (thank you) - I voted YABU because it's a tampon advert, So what?
Why are women's periods a cringey subject?
Looking at the comments,I'm guessing because they used the words girls, or went too light hearted by making a chat show subject?
If it all normalises and raises awareness I see that as a good thing.
It's life! That's what happens.

onesmalldog · 21/05/2020 23:41

Yes, I hate the incontinence ad.

'So I can pee be myself.'

Shut up.

m00rfarm · 21/05/2020 23:44

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains - you see, it is not the subject matter I am objecting to at all. Periods are not a cringey subject. It is the way they have approached it, with ridiculous terminology, really bad acting and just general "coarseness".

Arghhh - and it is on again RIGHT NOW!

Why should we have to raise awareness - most people are quite capable of inserting a tampax by following the simple instructions,.

It is not light hearted. It is just cheap!

It’s not the message, it’s the delivery. Women don’t need an ad that appears to have been dreamt up by some (Male) sixth form media students.

gavisconismyfriend · 21/05/2020 23:49

It is truly awful!

Shatandfattered · 21/05/2020 23:52

Haven't RTFT, just the first few comments so apologies if I'm repeating but as much as I find this advert very.... Crude? Too intimate for TV? I'm not actually sure what doesn't sit right with me because I'm all about being open with conversations about sex, bodies etc but periods are a chat to be had by females with other females in the correct environment. IMO opinion of course. That being said I've been in the position of divulging too much info to DP to explain why I'm in so much pain etc. My DD8 is aware of periods and puberty but I feel like teaching her about inserting a tampon is a bit premature and this advert instigated such a conversation.
Absolutely eyerolled at the "at least it says girls" comments though Hmm. I try to understand the fierce feminism stance as much as I can but if we want to get all technical and pedantic about it then girls is actually not the correct noun to use since periods are progression into womanhood.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 23:53

See, I'd have assumed this would be an ad for a push-up bra. It being for tampons is even worse. Crass, coarse, and just generally how about you keep your suggestions to yourself mate.
