To not know the name of the guy I'm dating?

This will probably all sound a bit strange!

I've been dating a man for a couple of months but I don't actually know his name and now we're too far in for me to ask him! We met at a mutual friend's party and my friend introduced me to him. She told me his name but it isn't an an English name or one that I've heard before so I only caught the general sound of it, rather than the actual name itself.

We've been going on dates for a couple of months now and it's too late for me to ask him his name. I can't ask my friend his name because she'll also think it's very odd that we've been dating for 2 months and I don't know.

I've been avoiding calling him by his name when together and I'm not sure how I can find this out!

Anyone else been in a situation like this?

This happens to me all the time and people forget my name or don’t know how to say it. My neighbour has called me Siobhan for the past 8 years, my name doesn’t even begin with an S Grin I’ve given up correcting her.

I also had this with a man I was seeing OP. I thought his name was Danny, however his friend Darren used to get his post delivered to Danny’s house and so Danny told me his real name was actually Darren, so for a good while I wasn’t sure at all which one it was.

I think you’re going to have to ask him how to spell his name and hope it’s not Bob or something.

Once the lockdown is over, when you are over at his house have a look at his post and hopefully you will catch the name there.
I wouldn't be too clever about it though, if a BF asked me for my details to send a present, I would give my address only assuming he would already know my name , and the jig would be up when you asked for his name too.
If you are getting stressed about it, I would just be honest.
Its actually quite funny when you think about it and certainly a humorous story in later years

Also in relation to details to send a present, it would also mean you will need to go and get a present.

I've ordered things online and sent them directly to DP as gifts during lockdown, you'd need to double check spelling and even his full address without his name would work with online search tools.

If your friend introduced you two then surely in 2 months she has said something like 'How are you and John getting on?'

I did something similar back when I was online dating. The guy had a stupid user name not his actual name and I was just politely replying to his messages, not really interested what his name was. Before I knew it we had been speaking for a couple of months. He must have assumed he had told me and by then we had spoken for weeks it had gone past the point I could ask. Turned out he was called Ricky but can't remember how I found out.

Why is this thread getting so many responses? It's obviously a load of crap.

How can you say such a thing? This is a completely normal scenario.

In bad sitcom land.

I can just imagine “how do you spell your name again?”

We will never find out then 😂

wipeyourpawsplease · 23/05/2020 16:07

This has made me howl with laughter! It's exactly the kind of scrape I'd get into! Grin

This is unbelievable!
