To say I don't care what genitals the person in the next loo cubicle has...

And that most people probably don't either?

I'm sick of the transphobia on Mumsnet, and fed up of how it seems to be fine on here to go after trans writers such as Juno Dawson, who is writing from their own experience and imagination, and absolutely allowed to publish whatever the fuck they want.

@YgritteSnow If you believe that biology is a man is man and a woman is a woman, how to you account for species that engage in sexual acts without reproduction?

Gimmecaffeine · 18/05/2020 11:27

Does that mean we should stop all safeguarding? Shall we stop doing background checks? Would you let your child go off with any strange man? After all, men have always raped and molested children, so what’s the point of safeguarding?

This is a slippery slope argument. The question is whether transwomen should be allowed into women's public toilets.

I don't get it. I'd feel perfectly safe with a transwoman in the next cubicle. A rule about gendered access will not stop a predatory rapist attacking.

I believe that if someone says they are a woman, and have been through a lifetime of feeling more comfortable in that gender, then we should respect that and let them use whatever bathroom they like.

'Woman' is NOT a fucking feeling. Go away. Have a read. Educate yourself!

gaia · 18/05/2020 11:29

That’s an interesting comment pjj1986 . there have been cases of trans women sexually assaulting women and children in womens toilets. In fact trans women in the uk have a lower risk of physical violence than females.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 18/05/2020 11:29

I like having a single sex loo, but I'm happy to accept transwomen as being women.

How do you resolve that one, then???? Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 18/05/2020 11:29

i care. i want my daughter to have single sex changing rooms, bathrooms, sports, hospital wards, etc.

i actually find the women who are against that bewildering

MarieQueenofScots · 18/05/2020 11:29

@pjj1986 and @coronaandtired

You really can't be disingenuous enough to state in earnest you see of no reason why women (you know, adult female) might want and need a safe, same sex space?

YgritteSnow · 18/05/2020 11:30

Another more recently, not in a toilet but still...

pjj1986 · 18/05/2020 11:30

@gaia Show me the proof of your claims. They are absolutely untrue.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 18/05/2020 11:30

Transwomen ARE women.

No. THEY ARE NOT!!!!!!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/05/2020 11:30

Transwomen ARE women. So your arguments that it is no longer a “single sex” space are invalid. And the number of times someone pretending to be trans to assault someone in a toilet is NEGLIGIBLE compared to the violence that trans people are faced with daily. So many disgusting opinions on this thread

A woman is an adult human female. Trans women are adult human males. Therefore if allowed into female only spaces they would then become mixed sex.

Mixed sex spaces increase the danger to females. Growing numbers of hidden camera crimes. Males with a fetish who get sexually aroused being in female spaces.

Where are all these violent attacks being carried out on a daily basis on trans people? Seriously where? By women? Feminists? You are full of shit. Yeah who cares about the insignificant number of females being attacked. They are just collateral damage.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/05/2020 11:30

That's what you get for reducing the whole thing to who uses what loo.

If you stopped being so self righteous for a moment and considered the posts of many posters you might realise that you are not sewing the when picture.

Prison cells
Rape crisis centres
Girl guide camps
Open changing rooms

Just start with those.

Which one of them should be open to any man?

Even when the women using them say no... why do they have their voices ignored?

Why is it in any way wrong to say that transwomen are transwomen? They are men who do no want to be seen as men. They are not women , by very definition.

Celebrate transness.

Expand the bandwidth of being a man.

But don't steamroller the rights of women and girls and call it progress.

Most if all, sod off labelling me. I AM a woman. I am NOT transphobic. TERF is a made up, childish attempt to distract from very real issues. Stop trying to make it about anything other than the loss of rights to privacy and dignity.

Maybe think about why you want some men to do as they please and castigate some women when they say no!

CoolCarrie · 18/05/2020 11:31

its fine for you not to care, however it’s also fine for me, and many others to care.

PinkyAndTheBrian · 18/05/2020 11:31

I'm pretty sure no transgender folk give a flying fuck about your messy periods

Having seen plenty of accounts from AGP transwomen about their fetish for taking used tampons and pads, I’m not sure you can be so certain about that.

Single sex spaces are there for a reason.
Men, no matter how they present themselves commit violent and sexual crime at a higher rate than women. The trans prison population shows a far higher rate of deviancy than the general male population in prison.

Too many women have suffered at the hands of too many men to roll back single sex spaces.

Oh and “trans women ARE women”?
No, they’re not. There is not one cell in their body which wouldn’t identify them as Male. Can we stop with this delusional gaslighting bullshit.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 18/05/2020 11:31

I could post even more shocki stats about the deaths and suicide rates of trans people

Please do. I assume you’re not going to use the high murder stats for trans women prostitutes in Latin America to back up your claims, as that would be disingenuous, unless you also also show the murder rates for female prostitutes in those countries. Can you please show the murder rates for trans people who have been murdered in the U.K., as this is a U.K. site? Perhaps you could also post the stats on none trans people who were murdered by tran people, just to show the comparison?

Helmetbymidnight · 18/05/2020 11:32

I'd feel perfectly safe with a transwoman in the next cubicle

you genuinely dont understand why women dont want to be forced to share bathrooms with men?

what about sports- should we get rid of women only football teams?

Pertella · 18/05/2020 11:32

It's strange that a male/female/unisex 3 space solution is always refused by TRAs

pjj1986 · 18/05/2020 11:32

@YgritteSnow Again - show me all the sex assaults happening in toilets by trans people.

nolongersurprised · 18/05/2020 11:32

If you believe that biology is a man is man and a woman is a woman, how to you account for species that engage in sexual acts without reproduction?

Lol at the non sequitur.

“If you believe that oranges are oranges and apples are apples, how do you account for whale sharks?”

MasakaBuzz · 18/05/2020 11:32

@pjj1986 Transwomen are biologically Male. Their Sex is Male and always be Male. Their maleness is written into every cell in their bodies.

You are confusing Sex with Gender

Transŵomen are Transwomen. They are not and can never be actual women.

When somebody of the Male Sex enters a space designated for members of the Female Sex. That space instantly becomes a Mixed Sex space.

Gimmecaffeine · 18/05/2020 11:32

How do you resolve that one, then????

Men piss on seats and leave shit stains. It's not about safety for me, but I don't feel threatened by transwomen anyway.

I don't feel a single sex loo offers me protection from someone so determined to assault me they would do it in a public place.

SweetPetrichor · 18/05/2020 11:32

I'm with you OP and in reality, I think many people do. MN gives a wonky perspective of reality. I don't ask proof of the genitals of people sharing spaces with me...I've seen plenty more masculine looking ladies but is it my business to ask them what they have in their pants? No, it's not. They may have been trans women, and the they have been simply masculine looking cis women. I don't care one way or the other. As long as they aren't bothering me, I'm not going to bother them.

PinkyAndTheBrian · 18/05/2020 11:32

Fuck it. Not one cell in their body that would identify them as female.

BusyProcrastinator · 18/05/2020 11:33

I care. We’ve been socialised - for good reason - to be wary of males in our loos since childhood. Most transwomen are no threat, like most men aren’t, but we cannot throw away the right to question
