To think the north of England offers a worse quality of life than the South or Midlands?

I was thinking of moving to Lancashire, but having done some research online, it seems a lot of people have negative opinion of it. I'm now set on Warwickshire or Leicestershire. Does the north in general offer a worse quality of life than the Midlands? I know its cheaper up north but is it much worse up there?

I've tried both, ended up dahn sarf, it's a lot better here Grin

alphajuliet123 · 17/05/2020 21:04

But they don't have Booths down south...

Seriously? Do we need to start a fundraiser for the poor souls?

Redleathertrousers · 17/05/2020 21:04

These posts are making me howl Grin

@Camomila its in lovely York

KKSlider · 17/05/2020 21:04

We have Cooplands in Northumberland but, just like Booths, do NOT tell them about Cooplands.

Wheresthesanitygone · 17/05/2020 21:04

Noooo don’t tell them about Booths ffs

KensalGreen · 17/05/2020 21:04

@DDRickyDD I live in Lancashire so I can help. Which area were you looking at? Do you want countryside, town, village, city, seaside? What are your budget and requirements?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/05/2020 21:04

My 3 all sleep in one room
You have a room?
Stealth boast obvs.

IWouldDie4U · 17/05/2020 21:05

We do have Waitrose in the North (but none of us shop there because we have Booths which is far superior).

KKSlider · 17/05/2020 21:05

Do we need to start a fundraiser for the poor souls?

But what would we donate? We've barely two farthings to rub together and Little Tim needs new boots for down the mine...

donquixotedelamancha · 17/05/2020 21:06

But they don't have Booths down south.

I think they put their elderly in care homes instead.

Taswama · 17/05/2020 21:06

Well I grew up within day trip distance of London and the South Coast and now live in the Midlands.
Countryside in both areas - beautiful but different
Less investment in public transport here and less choice culturally
One airport within 100 miles rather than three so less choice on flights and destinations
Limited number of big employers really locally but quite a few if you are prepared to travel up to an hour.
Our house is a lot bigger than we’d be able to afford where I grew up and the salary for my job is about the same.

QuestionableMouse · 17/05/2020 21:06

@ClassicCola

I can confirm this. I'm born and bred North (East) and I've never even tasted one.

daphknee · 17/05/2020 21:07

I'd reply with all the reasons why it's so grim but I need to be going to sleep, under my makeshift duvet of a signed PJ and Duncan poster.

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/05/2020 21:07

Aye. I've not seen the sun in three year. My rickets are so bad you can drive next door's whippet through the gap.

Potionqueen · 17/05/2020 21:07

My daily dog walk 1 minute from my home in deepest, darkest Lancashire.
I love the north.

giggly · 17/05/2020 21:07

Every time I research online about living in the south east all I hear is how expensive it is and how miserable everyone is with the cost of housingGrin htp Flowers

LuluJakey1 · 17/05/2020 21:08

The north-east is awful. It is just filthy unsanitary terraces, covered in coal-dust, poor and we all eat crap, drink too much, smoke and are small-minded racists according to the Press. That is why the government has ignored us for the last 10 years. Nothing amazingly beautiful, cultural or warm-hearted about up here. Definitely do not come here. We are very unfriendly and bite.

user1471565182 · 17/05/2020 21:10

Seriously though Doncaster is fucking horrific.

CoffeeRunner · 17/05/2020 21:10

At the risk of answering the OP seriously - the “north” is a huge area. You have some of the most beautiful areas of the whole U.K. the Lake District, Northumberland, Yorkshire.

It’s the same as other vast region (ie “the South”). There’s good, bad, dreadful & beautiful.

viques · 17/05/2020 21:10

OP if you do move be prepared to sign up for a language conversion course. When I did the move in reverse I used to entertain the southern crowds by being asked to say certain words. Skirt was one I remember, but the ones that got them rolling in the aisles were bath, grass and laugh. I can say them nicely now but it has taken half a lifetime.

dun1urkin · 17/05/2020 21:10

OP I take it the thread you did on this yesterday didn’t help? Grin

DickKerrLadies · 17/05/2020 21:10

Definitely do not move up north. The fresher air, stunning countryside friendliness and clearly superior sense of humour, are all absolutely unbearable.

I was going to come here and say something similar but I think this covers it.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 17/05/2020 21:11

Oh fuck l live an hour outside London and l bloody love avocados.....didn't even realise it was a southern thing!! Hanging my head in shame now. But l bloody love chips and gravy!!

covilha · 17/05/2020 21:11

North, yep, dreadful place. Definitely stay South. (Please). Thank you
