To not want my child to return to a school full of reluctant teachers

Even if the Government endorses school reopening, who would want to send their child into an environment where the teachers clearly do not want them there ?

Daffodil(I'm not a teacher and no longer have a school aged child) but I do read the science from imperial , BMA etc and if I did have a school aged child no way would I be sending them back yet.

Are you fucking joking OP???
I’m not reluctant to go to school and teach..... I AM reluctant to go to school and catch or spread a dangerous virus. I love my job, I’m not prepared to risk my health because other people don’t want to parent their own kids!

Also wondering what the flowers are about, Confused

Teachers want to go back. And no teacher is going to make your child feel unwelcome, ffs. What do you think we are?

But our R rate is still near 1. It's not safe to go back. It's not safe for the teachers, and it's not safe for your family if your child brings the virus home after spending the day in close proximity to at least 15 other children and their teacher and TAs.

The play parks in your local recreation grind are still sealed off. Even though they're outside. Yet the government, while not letting your child play on the swings, wants them (and their teachers) to be inside a cramped classroom with shared equipment that it's impossible to keep virus-free, and then come home to you, and any vulnerable family members you might have.

Rude to assume the teachers are reluctant to teach them.

They can't practically social distance ffs. They'll spend all the time herding or separating. There will be no time to teach!

What do the flowers mean?

I am going to do my level best to welcome my little flock of allocated 15, but I will be very nervous for them. I am able to control impulses, and not touch my face and remember not to touch surfaces unnecessarily, but will they? We have been instructed to don gloves and masks to clean loos, communal areas and walkways as well as surfaces in allocated spaces during breaks and lunchtimes, and believe me, it'll be absolutely necessary. We're debating about whether it'll be safe to use the playground equipment on rotation with a clean between each use, but most likely will have to cordon off, as vigilance will be lowered while playing anyway.
So don't give me "teachers don't want the children in school" and try "teachers are taking their responsibility of keeping your child safe in challenging circumstances very seriously". This responsibility is weighing heavily on many's shoulders.

It's either safe to stop social distancing for all, or it isn't.

It shouldn't be a case of: everyone should keep social distancing apart from children and their teachers.

And yes - other people have been working in jobs like retail, for instance, throughout, but the school environment is different.

That is all.

itsgettingweird · 15/05/2020 22:28

Teachers want to educate children.

But.

People were told to return to work when safe. Workplaces have covid secure guidelines and can be fined for not following them. They have to have one way systems. Shields between desks. Social distancing. Staggered start times where appropriate. PPE for those who can't social distance. Some businesses can't open due to numbers of people (eg bars etc) and the risks it brings.

Except if you're a school.

People aren't questioning if returning to schools is good for children. They are questioning why the rules apply to workplaces that aren't schools and why the science in schools is different.
