@nannytothequeen well said. The perception of New Zealand ands New Zealander's on here is really interesting.

The idea that Kiwis don't travel much makes me crack up. We're everywhere! If you don't do a big OE in your late teens you're going to do one once your children are grown up.

I'd also say we're the opposite of parochial. Our news, for example, is very outward-looking. We know a lot about the rest of the world. The international news segment on the evening news is usually a lot longer than the local news segments. Or at least it was when I was still living there.

Theyve got off to a great start in NZ. Too soon to declare the war won though. We'll have a better idea in a few years. Good luck to them.

Yanbu OP.

My parents live in NZ, they’ve been very impressed with JA’s approach and they weren’t huge fans to start with (they thought she was personable but naive). I’ve always liked her though.

I don’t understand the, “But what about tourism” posts. Surely it’s still more economically beneficial for NZers to be back at school and work than locked down, or semi locked down like in the U.K.? At least the local economy will be stimulated. If the U.K.’s widespread infections meant that herd immunity was only a month or so away it might be different but as far as I’m aware most people haven’t been exposed. Months and months of ongoing coronavirus infections doesn’t really make an inviting tourism prospect, even if borders are open to European countries. If NZ and Australia do open borders to each other that’ll give each other a travel destination.

I also find the concept of NZers as non-travellers very funny, the big “OE” is pretty much a young adult rite of passage!

All you need is one rogue power hungry officer to for eg. enter a woman home he has been stalking/rejected by and this very easily can turn very bad. It's horrific!!

Truthpact · 17/05/2020 12:10

Oh yes it's terrible what they've managed to do. Had low covid cases, low deaths.. How could they? 😂

People get angry at their freedom being taken away, would you prefer it being your life? It can be caught easily now, just need one person to cough on you, you catch covid and days later are dead. I'm sure the dead would rather be alive. But hey, that's what you'd prefer right op?

And this: All you need is one rogue power hungry officer to for eg. enter a woman home he has been stalking/rejected by and this very easily can turn very bad. It's horrific!!

Is just kind of stupid. Anyone could do that right now. You don't need to be a police officer to do that. It's how a fair amount of murders and rapes happen actually. That's not a good excuse to stop what new Zealand are doing.

That would be illegal for him to do, both before and after the legislative change.
