Death by M&S Ready Meals

Well I’ve been isolating at home with my teenagers as myself and my eldest have had Coronavirus. I realised that neither of us would be well enough to cook and the other teenager has mock exams.

As there were no supermarket delivery slots I decided to order some ready meals from M&S thinking it would be quality food and help us recover.

However I was really shocked at the salt sugar and fat content. We can’t possibly eat this. It will make us sick again. It cost a fortune. I realise it was probably a bit stupid of me at the time but I wasn’t well and wasn’t thinking properly. My mouth feels like sandpaper at the very thought of all that salt being poured into it. Am I being unreasonable?

The fastest hypo I have ever seen DH experience was having shared an M&S steak and ale pie. The amount of sugar was insane. I rarely, if ever, have ready meals and just hadn't anticipated that there would be that much sugar.

userxx · 13/05/2020 21:36

Get a grip 🙄

Lynda07 · 13/05/2020 21:39

You really are over reacting and I do not get how a steak pie is 'healthy eating' anyway. Pastry is hardly healthy. It's not something I would buy but you did and must have known it wouldn't be up to your home made standards.

Of course that pie is not going to make any of you ill again, it's ridiculous of you to think so. You're hardly going to be stuffing yourselves with pastry every day, are you?

Order some fish and chips or a pizza.

IcyWind · 13/05/2020 21:40

I’m very confused, did you think this pie would give you coronavirus?

BluSky5 · 13/05/2020 21:42

Mintychoc1

Tell me about the mock exams, how does that work?

If the younger teenager wasn’t doing mock exams they would have been able to cook for us. As it is, that child was doing enough anyway while I couldn’t; washing up and laundry. Cooking from scratch they are very capable of but I thought mocks were more important.

It won’t make you sick.....just fat and thirsty 😃

I think all pies are pretty high in fat and most ready meals are full of salt. You bought it so I would eat it just thins once or your chucking food away.

Ingridla · 13/05/2020 21:44

I'll have it if you don't want it! 😄

PurpleDaisies · 13/05/2020 21:44

One pie won’t make you fat.

DurhamDurham · 13/05/2020 21:44

Ok as a favour and just this once..... I'm prepared to take them off your hands. Have them bagged and left at your door. I'll bring some salad, veg and eggs in exchange because I'm kind.

Timesdone · 13/05/2020 21:44

Pastry and cheese contain fat and salt, lots of it, even if you make it yourself. Why would you buy pastry and cheese if you don’t like fat or salt? I’m surprised you haven’t complained about the carb content as well. If you want low carb, low fat, low salt meals don’t buy pies and lasagna.

SpilltheTea · 13/05/2020 21:44

How would it make you sick again? It's nutritionally poor, but you're being very dramatic.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 21:45

Is your child currently doing mock exams, op?

Itwasntme1 · 13/05/2020 21:47

Surely you knew it wasn’t be a healthy meal? A ready made steak pie?

You are being a bit dramatic. I assume by all the pearl clutching, and ‘do people eat steak pies three times a day’ questions you normally eat quite healthy.

Do you honestly think on or two meals will make you ill?

I think you need to get over yourself. Eat the pie, don’t eat the pie, but cut the drama

totallyoverthisbullshit · 13/05/2020 21:48

Ah, M&S Steak Pie... I'm traumatised from the Christmas that we left one on the side defrosting and the cat jumped up on the counter and ate it.

Returned home to a passed out feline with a belly larger than Octomum. Oh the vomit.

On a different note, YASBU OP! M&S ready meals are the best!

Ellisandra · 13/05/2020 21:49

You need to get over yourself! Ridiculous saying it will make you sick.fair enough to post that you’re surprised at the ingredients. But it’s hardly going to make you ill.

Ingridla · 13/05/2020 21:50

To be fair to,you if you normally cook from scratch and add no or very little salt it is gonna taste salty as I do and I recently had something similar and my taste buds went into shock! Just offset it with lots of fresh veg & you'll notice you'll want to drink a lot of water with and afterwards. Enjoy it.

cantdothisnow1 · 13/05/2020 21:52

perhaps if you are concerned you shouldn't order a steak pie as it is never a healthy option! lol

Blingismything · 13/05/2020 21:53

That pie is delicious.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 13/05/2020 21:53

I normally cook from scratch and never add any salt but that’s just me.

Bet your food's tasty. Salt's not your enemy you know.

BluSky5 · 13/05/2020 21:54

Thisismytimetoshine

Is your child currently doing mock exams, op?

Well yes, not in the way that used to be done but they still need to be graded in the summer so that is what’s been going on today.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 21:55

Oh, ok. I wondered at the timing.

EffOrf · 13/05/2020 21:55

Not quite sure what Boris has to do with M&S ready meals

justasking111 · 13/05/2020 21:55

I stopped using salt when first child born in cooking, but always put it on the table for adults to add if wanted. Historically it was such an important preservative. I mean who wants a pork and egg fry up when you can eat bacon.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 13/05/2020 21:56

I don't think there are any exams, let alone mock ones happening this academic yearConfused

Either way. It's a steak pie🤷🏻
Whoever cooks with no salt whosoever. As pp said, there is a reason salt is in recipes. I don't like salty things much too and I too have unsalted butter, my DH always salts extra. You really need that pinch there and there like in pasta water etc. It's just a pinch but does make a difference

TheGinGenie · 13/05/2020 21:57

I have definitely eaten leftover pie for breakfast before Grin Granted, not very often
