To think that people have forgotten about Wales?

Irrespective of your view, it feels like the welsh have been forgotten about. At least it feels like that to me.

I live 3 miles from the English border and all I see is talk of what we can do now (drive to exercise, meet in parks, schools may go back etc). Plans for the future are being tentatively made.

Whereas we're still under house arrest more or less. I feel suffocated and feel the welsh gift is being a nanny state. I know many will disagree but I never voted for this. I voted for the govt not the welsh first minister. Why does he get to make plans?

It feels all have forgotten us and were left behind. My DD has friends 15mins away who might get to go back to primary school soon. She is in wales and is devastated.

I’m in England, not near border and for Coronavirus action would much rather be in Wales, NI or Scotland (France, Germany, New Zealand......)

I can see border issues but hope employers will be sensible about some of their employees being under different rules. (Might be nice if there was protection for workers but however good the others are we have Boris so unlikely.)

luckylavender · 12/05/2020 15:57

House arrest? Have you seen what has happened in other countries? And if you actually think we're past the peak (and there won't be another one or two or three) then you haven't been paying much attention. I wish I was still in Wales and had a government that cared about public health.

Figmentofmyimagination · 12/05/2020 15:57

Llandudno floods though doesn’t it?

luckylavender · 12/05/2020 15:58

I didn't vote for Johnson or to Leave. That's democracy.

SerenDippitty · 12/05/2020 16:00

*My English friend was born in Swansea because mum went into labour on holiday in South Wales, for context.

Doesn’t see himself as welsh, understandably. However, technically born in Wales, so maybe he is.

Either way, he’s had the piss taken out of him all his life. Maybe the welsh do the same in reverse, I wouldn’t know!*

He's eligible to play rugby for Wales!

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 16:03

Llandudno did have a flood in 1993, since then they have put hundreds of thousands of tons of stone on beaches. The floods were on the lowest part of the town which when you look pre construction 1884 at high tide the sea washed from west to north, Llandudno being built on the marshes. Penrhyn Bay is a nice area outside Llandudno. Rhos on sea as well. Ditto Deganwy

If you want a bit more rural, then Glanwydden, Bryn Pydew, Upper Colwyn Bay, Above Glan Conwy. You get best of both worlds then.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 16:04

Funnily enough a lot of people are doing property porn apparently nationally, looking to move out of built up areas into less populated areas.

allthepeoplethatcomearound · 12/05/2020 16:20

I’ve got my eye on a house in Bryn Pydew @justasking111 don’t give our rural secrets away!! 😆

Devlesko · 12/05/2020 16:42

Aw, I promise I'll behave and we were toying with the idea before lockdown. We do tend to get a lot of our work from Wales too, when we are allowed to work. Both in music and entertainment.
I lived in Prestatyn for a while in the 80's for work. Used to take my ramblers to Snowy , on a sunday morning Grin
My granny and gr grandma were welsh, and have lots of ancestors who lived there going back centuries.
Surnames Price, Taylor, Ingram, Williams, Roberts, Jones, and of course Abram Wood. Grin

Crazzzycat · 12/05/2020 16:46

Another one here who’s actually very happy to live somewhere where the rules are clear!

@Devlesko my town sounds exactly like what you’re looking for; sea and mountain views all around us. I won’t tell you exactly where it is (too outing!), but it’s a little bit to the west of Conwy.

My town is 50/50 Welsh/English and as far as I’m aware there’s no real Welsh/English divide. We all get on just fine.

I would argue though that it’s always worth considering learning Welsh, if only so that you don’t fall victim to that slightly silly belief that if you hear people speak Welsh they must be talking about you. I never quite understood why anyone would think that, but it seems to be quite common 🙃

BarbedBloom · 12/05/2020 16:49

Well I am welsh and am happy to be honest. My husband's workplace cannot socially distance, they are not set up for it at all. I am shielding and we cannot isolate from each other as we live in a one bed studio type place. As soon as lockdown is lifted he will be pressured to go back.

Most people I know are happy about it. England will be the case study as awful as that sounds as they are the only one leaving lockdown. Our local primaries can't reopen anyway as they don't have enough staff and cannot socially distance children unless they limit to three per class and this would mean no outside play and having to stay at their desks to eat - can't say I would want my kids rushing back to that

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 17:09

Know Bryn Pydew well all the people Grin

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 17:14

I’ll tell him that, Seren! Mind you he’s an old hit now. Is your name Seren IRL? Love that name.

Bargainhuntbore · 12/05/2020 17:45

Oh nice pub in Glanwydden. Great food! Love up in Bryn Pydew, especially overlooking Conwy, that view💓

Willide1 · 12/05/2020 18:09

Re the testing in Wales, I live in South Wales and had no trouble getting a test the day after I started to have symptoms of COVID 19, test results were back in 48 hrs. I have several friends and family who have also been tested very quickly and had results back within 24/48 hrs. Maybe if differs in other areas though. I too am glad that I live in Wales and difficult as it is I completely agree with the continued lockdown measures for now.

Devlesko · 12/05/2020 18:17

Oh, I so wish I was there now, even with this rainy windy weather we have atm.
I watched a programme about shepherding on Snowdonia, it was so interesting, on a couple of nights ago, BBC2.
The change in weather and balancing tourism with keeping the environment clean must be a nightmare.
I just hope we can get something decent for our 200k, we have 4 bedrooms here in the NW, but only have dd at home now and she won't need schools. So looking at downsizing to 2/3 bedrooms.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 18:32

There is a nice one coming up in Deganwy, views of Conwy river and castle I think. It has been given to agents but with all the restrictions goodness knows when it will actually turn up on rightmove. Just had a look crikey a lot have sold with none coming on the market.

Two £1.5mil sold in the last couple of weeks, in Llandudno some folk must have splash to cash and want a retreat maybe for family.

Wales has often been forgotten about by the Westminster bubble. Since about the 15th century.

ravensoaponarope · 12/05/2020 20:44

Re meeting up with someone in Wales :
You can only do so if you bump into them by chance!

Ravens-its absolutely ridiculous. All or nothing IMO.
