To think that people have forgotten about Wales?

Irrespective of your view, it feels like the welsh have been forgotten about. At least it feels like that to me.

I live 3 miles from the English border and all I see is talk of what we can do now (drive to exercise, meet in parks, schools may go back etc). Plans for the future are being tentatively made.

Whereas we're still under house arrest more or less. I feel suffocated and feel the welsh gift is being a nanny state. I know many will disagree but I never voted for this. I voted for the govt not the welsh first minister. Why does he get to make plans?

It feels all have forgotten us and were left behind. My DD has friends 15mins away who might get to go back to primary school soon. She is in wales and is devastated.

I’m on the British side of the Welsh border and I think your government has it right.
The grass is always greener though I guess.
I am missing the beautiful walks in the Welsh countryside! It will be there when this is over though.

midnightstar66 · 11/05/2020 22:43

Op I'd be relived to live in wales, as I am to live in Scotland. Everyone I know is in agreement to still be on lockdown and not have a daft stay alert slogan.

stayanotherday · 11/05/2020 22:43

Absolutely Alym.

Mark rightly said we have an ageing population here as well which must be contained. Prevention's much better than cure.

BrokenBrit · 11/05/2020 22:43

*English side not British.

BrokenBrit The Welsh border countryside is lovely too, though! Especially if you're in the general Wye Valley area. I'm going to book to get back there as soon as it's safe to do so.

ChickenNugget86 · 11/05/2020 22:47

I live on the border myself and would prefer to follow the Welsh rules and have another lockdown for 3 weeks.
I have lots of family who live in North Wales that have been coming over to England for shopping etc.... I haven't gone over to Wales the whole time yet today the amount of "English stay away and protect us" posts over FB made me cringe.
It gets even more complicated as I live in England but work in North Wales..... Everyone seems so confused.

SpratsOnParade · 11/05/2020 22:52

I'm in Scotland too and find most people around here, are eager for things to start opening and making moves towards getting out of lockdown though appreciate it has to be done gradually. Personally I'd rather be in England right now. The negative effects of lockdown are a very real concern.

Bargainhuntbore · 11/05/2020 22:52

Im far as possible from many and the Welsh border which I'm thankful for. Wales is closed -to every on the other side if Offa’s Dyke.

knickerthief1 · 11/05/2020 22:56

@timetospare I understand what you are saying. My family are in Wales and I live in England. My Mum is unwell at the moment - waiting for test results to confirm exactly what's going on but cancer suspected. I'm worried that she may not be around much longer and I'm missing a year of her life. If she does end up very ill then come hell or high water I would have to find a way to visit. It's so worrying.

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 11/05/2020 22:57

London drives the whole UK economy, financial services is particularly important. London needs to get moving again before the recession hits too hard.

Timetospare · 11/05/2020 23:03

It is really ludicrous.
Can I travel from Pontrilas to Pandy?
Longtown to Llanthony?
Clyro to Clodock?
God knows how my uncle will manage with one farm in 2 countries, but I can’t see my mum, according to the ‘ rulz’

stayanotherday · 11/05/2020 23:11

@Smile Fair point. They need to.

Timetospare · 11/05/2020 23:18

@ballsdeep
At the end of the day I don’t care what you think, I will only ever have one mother, and if I decide to break these rules to spend a sunny day with her, in her 87th year, chatting in her remote country garden, maybe even venture indoors for a cup of tea and, God Forbid, cwtch her like I may never again, I will.

LastTrainEast · 11/05/2020 23:19

Did I dream it or did Wales and Scotland demand self-rule? Is this a case of being careful what you wish for?

shinynewapple2020 · 11/05/2020 23:21

I may be wrong here but I got the idea from what posters were saying previously that a lot of people in Wales would be grateful that people from built up areas such as English North West, Midlands and London will not be able to drive to visit Wales as we are now allowed (apparently) to drive as far as we like to undertake outdoor activities . Surely this is protecting people in rural communities from risk of virus being bought in.

LastTrainEast · 11/05/2020 23:22

"I really want to see my mum. I’m prepared to take a fine to see her"
Timetospare has no one explained to you why you are not seeing her?

You're not just risking a fine.

AmelieTaylor · 11/05/2020 23:25

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully

Are you serious? Wales hasn't been forgotten, it's being envied. I'll house swap with you. I'll take your sensible First Minister & you can have Bozo (throwing us to the Lions).

Member869894 · 11/05/2020 23:29

Timetospare I feel your pain. My mum is 90 and in Wales. I can travel anywhere for exercise and be 2m away from strangers but cant' visit her , even if I sit in her garden with her two metres away.

clairethewitch70 · 11/05/2020 23:30

Our testing in Wales is inaccessible and extremely low numbers. We have no idea of levels of infection here. Most people I know think they have had it but can't access tests even now.

Timetospare · 11/05/2020 23:34

@LastTrainEast
What exactly am I risking?
Both of us symptom free, and self isolating since March.

SeperatedSwans · 11/05/2020 23:35

I'm Welsh, a fluent Welsh speaker, I'm literally as Welsh as they come, I hate the Senedd , I think it's a waste of money and should be scrapped. I'd happily be under Westminster rule only and have the NHS centrally controlled rather than devolved to a inept Senedd. I'd also like to be able to get tested as easily a social care worker like many of my English friends can be!

Wales are stuck in lockdown because we've no idea what's actually going on in the population. I wouldn't envy us, it's been a shameful show of leadership from the beginning.

HughGrantsHair · 11/05/2020 23:41

Glad you're well over the peak OP. I live in Wales and where I am, we're not. So I'm glad for the First Minister.

OwlBeThere · 11/05/2020 23:45

I’m on the British side of the Welsh border and I think your government has it right
i would live on the uk side of the border
Hmm both sides of the English/welsh border and in the U.K. and Britain...

OwlBeThere · 11/05/2020 23:47

@LastTrainEast we didn’t demand anything, we did vote on it though and I for one am quite happy we have it.
