To think that people have forgotten about Wales?

Irrespective of your view, it feels like the welsh have been forgotten about. At least it feels like that to me.

I live 3 miles from the English border and all I see is talk of what we can do now (drive to exercise, meet in parks, schools may go back etc). Plans for the future are being tentatively made.

Whereas we're still under house arrest more or less. I feel suffocated and feel the welsh gift is being a nanny state. I know many will disagree but I never voted for this. I voted for the govt not the welsh first minister. Why does he get to make plans?

It feels all have forgotten us and were left behind. My DD has friends 15mins away who might get to go back to primary school soon. She is in wales and is devastated.

I'm thrilled to live in Wales. Sensible decision to get us through this while the rules in England aren't clear and are dangerous. Go to work but try not to use public transport? Wait until the cases start rising again. No thank you.

mum11970 · 11/05/2020 22:17

Don’t be daft. We haven’t been forgotten, we have just chosen to do things differently.

Methtones · 11/05/2020 22:18

I'm in scotland, the only place in the uk that I see as handling this better is Wales.

Go to work but try not to use public transport is just crazy. Do the government all think we live on the doorstep of our jobs? I know a lot of people who live in my town who work 30 miles away in a large retail provider. There is no safe way to travel there from here other than by bus or car (and parking is limited, so it's discouraged). If they tell them all to come back to work, then the buses will be packed.

I'm also thrilled to live in Wales. I'm just over the border too but work in England. I still have to go to work so travel between the 2 daily.
I felt safe ( as safe as you can atm) last week with all following the rules, now I'm having to reconsider!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 11/05/2020 22:25

Free prescriptions are a product of the Welsh devolved government. Stand by your decisions.

ballsdeep · 11/05/2020 22:25

@Timetospare
You certainly cannot come to Wales to visit family. Please read up on our rules before you come

I don’t know why people think the English can do as they please now. The only thing that has changed is that we can go out to exercise more than once a day and keep 2m away from people who are not part of your household. People have always been allowed to go to work if they can’t work from home. Really nothing has changed for me or anyone else I know. The 1st June looks a lot more relaxed but it might not even happen if the infections go up again.

If you read the UK government's 60 page document/roadmap, I think it becomes apparent that, despite a difference in tone, the likelihood is that the four nations will move in step on this. The announcements are just grandstanding and politics.

You should vote in the Senedd elections though. They have more impact than UK government in terms of our day to day lives.

PhoneLock · 11/05/2020 22:32

I'm in Canada. The province I'm in has never locked down, others have. Some have loosened social distancing, others haven't.

It's just part and parcel of having regional governments.

People are moaning about the same thing in Australia. No nationwide consensus on restrictions.

I’m bloody glad I’m in Wales too. This is probably the only time I have agreed with Drakeford. He is an absolute tosser but this time he got it right.

SeperatedSwans · 11/05/2020 22:36

shinethoyourheartisbreaking

You have hit the nail on the head, Wales can not lift lockdown because they can't even test 5000 people a day, they have no idea how many of their population have the virus, they have no idea if they have peaked nothing. It's a mess.

buzz91 · 11/05/2020 22:37

We’re not under house arrest, unless you are shielding, but in that case you continue to shield wherever you are.

I’m glad we’re not starting the decrease in lockdown measures here yet

Tjsmumma · 11/05/2020 22:37

I wish i wasnt in Britain right now and was elsewhere. Then i wouldnt have to be put at risk nor my daughter as im shielding as very high risk but he has been made to return. Its hard.

BackforGood · 11/05/2020 22:39

Certainly not forgotten about.
I switched on the news 17mins ago, and the only thing that has been discussed so far is the difference between England, and the other three home countries.

Personally, I wish I were lucky enough to live somewhere other than England with the ridiculous suggestions of starting 0 - 6 yr olds back to school and Nursery.

GabsAlot · 11/05/2020 22:39

I'm jealous of you op youre not being left behind your minister is protecting you same in scotland n.ireland

LordOftheRingz · 11/05/2020 22:39

Wales are a devolved Government. I love Wales, especially the border areas. However, I would live near the borders, like you said, I would just be over the border into the UK to not be under the devolved Gov.

Asuitablecat · 11/05/2020 22:40

It's going to be a nightmare when.I'm back.in.work.after half term and Welsh schools aren't. Got to have 2 key workers to access a hub.

stayanotherday · 11/05/2020 22:40

Exactly @NamesNamesSoManyNames

Many have to use public transport as they don't drive, have their own transport or are unable to park in a busy town centre. The tubes in London will be packed again. Ludicrous.

Even those shielding aren't under house arrest. It's strongly advised they stay at home, but nobody can force them to.
