To think that people have forgotten about Wales?

Irrespective of your view, it feels like the welsh have been forgotten about. At least it feels like that to me.

I live 3 miles from the English border and all I see is talk of what we can do now (drive to exercise, meet in parks, schools may go back etc). Plans for the future are being tentatively made.

Whereas we're still under house arrest more or less. I feel suffocated and feel the welsh gift is being a nanny state. I know many will disagree but I never voted for this. I voted for the govt not the welsh first minister. Why does he get to make plans?

It feels all have forgotten us and were left behind. My DD has friends 15mins away who might get to go back to primary school soon. She is in wales and is devastated.

The government are benefitting from furlough as they get the tax and NI from it.

Err...... they are handing out 80% of and getting about third of that back. Unless, I have missed something, they aren't benefiting at all.

Who let the dementors onto this thread Grin

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 13:56

My English friend was born in Swansea because mum went into labour on holiday in South Wales, for context.

Doesn’t see himself as welsh, understandably. However, technically born in Wales, so maybe he is.

Either way, he’s had the piss taken out of him all his life. Maybe the welsh do the same in reverse, I wouldn’t know!

So your friend was born in Swansea and has had the piss taken out of him all his life, by English people, because he was born in Wales?

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 14:01

Correct. That’s my point, it’s what I’m saying is bloody rude!

PhoneLock · 12/05/2020 14:03

Ho do they know he is technically Welsh?

PhoneLock · 12/05/2020 14:03

How

TabbyMumz · 12/05/2020 14:04

He must have told them

TabbyMumz · 12/05/2020 14:05

I think he could argue he's English, if brought up in England.

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 14:07

Yes he did, must have come up in conversation at some point, I’ve no idea.

I’ve always known about it precisely because I’ve always heard his mates take the piss.

Serendipper · 12/05/2020 14:07

I’m happy to remain in lockdown in Wales. On the plus side think of all the garden centres and libraries we can visit Hmm

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 14:11

Well the libraries are dependent on each local council, cogitating, ruminating and discussing the best way to achieve this safely in co-ordination with health and safety so don`t expect them to open this side of Easter @Serendipper Grin

TabbyMumz · 12/05/2020 14:26

Most of the libraries have probably been sold off to arms length companies so not council run.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 14:27

Maybe where you live Tabby but not here.

MintyChapstick · 12/05/2020 14:35

Well if you think England is so much better, you can always bugger off and live there. I live ten minutes from the border and everyone I know is fully in support of the lockdown remaining here. In fact I’ve never seen so much passionate Welsh nationalism on my FB feed as I’ve done in the last 24 hours.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 15:09

For welsh nationalism read racism perhaps?

Figmentofmyimagination · 12/05/2020 15:13

Omg I love wales. Dwyi wedi defnyddio’r lockdown i ddargonfod fy nghymraeg, hefo’r app saysomethinginwelsh - doeddwn i ddim wedi siarad cymraeg ers mwy na 30 mlynedd. I’m hoping to be mistaken for a local (only joking). I’m looking forward to trying it out later this summer though, fingers crossed. You never know. Nice to have a goal and more fun than watching episodes of Priodas Pum Mil on iplayer (I’m in England).

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 15:16

Wowee how did you learn to do that? 👍👍😂

MintyChapstick · 12/05/2020 15:20

For welsh nationalism read racism perhaps?

Yes we are all so racist from wanting to prevent entitled English tourists from flocking to our beaches and mountains and spreading the virus.Hmm

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 15:22

Keep your hair on minty I live at the foot of the mountains and beaches and am not getting so aerated.

Northernsoullover · 12/05/2020 15:25

I'm happy to be in Wales. Clear, concise 'rules'.

Figmentofmyimagination · 12/05/2020 15:27

daffodill it’s amazing what is at the back of your brain when you start peeling off the layers. I could understand people but I’d forgotten how to find words or speak. Still a long way to go!

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 15:33

Impressive, tho!

I can only say ‘ambwlans’ and I think I’ve got that wrong!

Quite liked working in Wales, always spotted similarities with French.

Devlesko · 12/05/2020 15:34

I'm looking at property porn on rightmove, aw there are some beautiful little cottages.
I want to live on a mountain, overlooking the sea, preferably North Wales, any suggestions.
Or, close to mountains and countryside.
Have looked at Llandudno, llangollen, and Colwyn Bay areas.
I think it's the most beautiful country in the world, and I'm so envious of you all.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 15:50

My home town Devlesko, I would not go west of Conwy, or consider parts of Colwyn Bay, The further west you go the more you need to consider learning welsh seriously. Llangollen is not an area I know. Best bet it to start reading the local press to get a feel for the area. If you have children read the Estyn reports. The further inland you go the wetter you may find it. For some reason jet stream wise we have a coastal area of warmth from Llandudno to Prestatyn, our palm trees do well, the downside we rarely get snow.
